Skaters and coaches among victims in DC plane crash

Maxim Naumov's parents were reportedly on the plane according to Russian sources... I'm not sure if Maxim was or not.

Edit: I'm reading that Maxim apparently returned to Boston already, but if this is true, my heart goes out to him.
From the New York Times;

Jon Maravilla, an American pairs figure skater, told RIA Novosti, a Russian state news agency, that there were “about 14 figure skaters on the plane, not counting their parents and coaches.”

TSL is reporting that the 1995 World Champions Shishkova and Naumov were on the flight. This is just sickening. Our interest off course want to know who was on the flight but I keep thinking regardless of skaters, coaches or whatever - these are real lives with real families and friends. And now they say no survivors. This is horribe. Bless all of them and their family and friends.

A local news channel published the list of the skaters presumed deceased and Maxim's parents were there. I'm sorry, I saw the list quickly in my Instagram stories and can't find it now before leaving for work. My heart breaks for all the families and I have them in my prayers.

How heartbreaking for the SCOB and the whole skating family. They also reference the 1961 plane crash which impacted their club too. When I heard Wichita last night, I really hoped that no skaters were impacted since Nationals ended on Sunday and most skaters would have returned home. I didn't know about the performance camp.

My condolences and prayers to those impacted. I'm wondering if Max will w/d from 4CCs now. There should definitely be some kind of memorial tribute during Worlds with SCOB being the organizing club.

This crash is horribly reminiscent of the February 14, 1961 plane crash in Belgium, killing all on board,
including the US figure skating team on their way to the World Competition in Prague.

Among those killed were famous American coach Maribel Vinson Owen, her rising star daughter Laurence, and coach Edie Scholdan.

It took years for US figure skating to recover from the loss of these talented and promising skaters and their coaches.

I have just seen this. 😮 I am shocked. Too shocked to actually feel anything but a disbelieving numbness at the moment.

BBC are reporting that it is estimated that 15 members of the US figure skating community were on board, including 6 members of the skating club of Boston: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn9370dny5xo SCoB members named as Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov (Maxim's parents), Spencer Lane and Jinna Hahn, and their mothers Christine Lane and Jin Hahn. 😭 BBC also confirming there are no survivors. I hope that those on board knew little of it.

The operation has become a recovery operation within hours after the crash. Due to temperature of the water, it is unlikely anyone survived if they were in the water for over an hour. If anyone did manage to find their way to shore, they would've also need to be found quickly due to the general outdoor temperature. So sad, especially for the families of any children on board.

Late night news said that it was very dark when the crash occurred. It's possible that the helicopter pilot thought he was supposed to pass behind a different plane and didn't really see the plane from the sideview until it was too late.

My sympathies to the friends and family of the 67 people in the crash.
