Skaters and coaches among victims in DC plane crash

I was just about to go to bed when I saw this horrific news. It's just inconceivable how tragic this is. Praying for the families of those on board. Now knowing that skaters/coaches were on board makes it just that much more heart wrenching, if that is possible.

Simply tragic. Since my friend notified me about the crash in the morning, all I want to do is cry for the loss of all those on board and thinking about all affected.
It's just difficult to imagine.
Plus reading here in the thread information about junior skater whom I was privileged to watch live last year being turned away at the gate for this flight...fate works in mysterious ways sometimes.

I just read that no survivors are expected. This is horrible.
Lots of circumstances unfortunately contributed to this fatal outcome. The fact that they were so close to landing, that they were rammed from the side, the small size of the aircraft, the icy river temperatures and of course the time when the crash happened. 💔

Based on the position some of the victims were found in, it seems like they barely even had time to react to the collision.

It’s being reported that the helicopter crashed into the side of the plane. So it’s very likely that the impact was completely undetected until the collision and thus negligible reaction time for passengers.

My thoughts go out to the families of the passengers.

There have been talks of closing DCA since the 1960s when they were building out Dulles because of the air space issues even then. But Dulles was built in what was the middle of nowhere at the time and has only been connected to the Metro subway system in the past year or two. DCA is just so convenient- it’s about five Metro stops between the airport and Capitol Hill, fewer than that to get to the Smithsonian museum complex/National Mall and provides easy access to any number of government entities and those who do business with them- the airport is almost adjacent to the Pentagon, described as one of the world’s biggest office buildings.

So because of that convenience, it’s remained operational despite the increased risks from congested airspace.
