Skaters who date their coaches

what about michelle's sister, Karen? She is married to Peter Obeggard.. but i don't know if he ever coached her.

I thought that both Karen and Michelle were taught by Frank Carol. Karen then quit skating and Michelle stayed with frank until the SLC season.

Strangely, we never seem to hear of MALE skaters dating their female coaches. In part, there are some obvious reasons as to why this is not especially widespread, but on the other hand..... This might be a topic for a different thread entirely.

Am I dreaming this or was there a husband and wife coaching team where wifey had an affair with a student (underage?) and hubby got in trouble with the USFSA because instead of filing a complaint with them, he filed for divorce.

I don't think so, but they were both at Lake Arrowhead.

Yes. The boy was 18. She has been banned from coaching by the USFSA and PSA.

Dean was their choreographer. Martin Scotnicky was their coach.

I'm not sure this would be the greatest example; given the personalities of those two, I'm pretty sure most people in the skating community probably figured that THAT match-up was not going to turn out well.......

Dianne DeLeeuw married her coach Doug Chapman. They are still together and there is a significant age difference.

I wonder if Isabelle Delobel is seeing her coach Romain ' or is he their choreographer ?They seem very touchy feely in the knc I presume that's him with Muriel and Isabelle and Olivier ?They make an attractive couple if they are .

She'd better not be, cos Romain is spoken for.....by moi, except he doesn't know it yet.

No, to be fair, he's like that with all the Zazoui/Hagenauer dancers from Lyon, he seems to have a great relationship with all of them, P&B and C&J, and I know some of the younger, up and coming icedancers speak of him affectionately too [cos I started a thread enquiring about him on FSU a few years ago, and got a bit of goss....he speaks with a lisp, and his car was an old banger!]
I first noticed him when he came over to Brits with the O's in 2002, when they trained at Lyon, remeber nuge?

Yeah, I'm not crazy about that either. Not with Steuer being still married (not even separated), and, quite frankly, a general creep.

Um. Well, I wouldn't say no.....and it seems to be doing Savchenko a power of good, as she was in fabulous form in Warsaw - Chinese look out! :agree:

I think I read about that, was it the Canadian Dance team of Petr & Janoschak? - [pre B&K Canadian Champions].

They went on one of the T&D World tours.

Ingo also dated his former partner Mandy prior to their winning their World Championship. They said it was very hard to skate together afterwards.

Brasseur and Eisler also considered dating, but decided it wasn't worth damaging their on ice partnership. I bet Isabelle is happy that she didn't, now.

It's not surprising that a coach-student relationship would happen. There's the Svengali thing for him and the hero worship for the young girl. If it happens between a female coach and male student, it's still gross, but not frowned on as much.

Actually, it was just Petr, who was by then divorced from Janoshcak and married to US skater Joe Mero. Mero was the husband disciplined by USFSA for failing to report.

Is Tanith dating Evan? I only saw bits of the broadcast but they kept showing her while he was skating etc?
I imagine a lot of skaters date - it really is a small world. But coaches dating students, yuck!
