Twitch is still getting a high applause barometer, but the others are rising, too. It seemed as though they were least enthusiastic for Jessica.
Mia Michaels is the guest judge.
Cat is looking very unglamorous tonight.
Chelsi and Mark learn salsa from Alex Di Silva. Fuego. It was nice – best part was the lift and dismount at the end IMO. They did it well, but I thought she was too smiley. Great job on the footwork. The camera work didn’t do it justice since they focused on upper body too much. The judges loved her and thought that Mark was a little too stiff, but overall good performance.
Comfort and Thayne hip hop with Tabitha and Napoleon. Can We Chill by Ne-Yo. Very well done. Didn’t love the performance as compared to other pairs’ performances of T&N’s work on the show. The judges said it most lacking in connection, but didn’t hate it. Mia said that she has really been rooting for Comfort and also Thayne, but has felt that they have not risen to the occasion as other dancers.
Jessica and Will work with Tyce DiOrio. Silence from the Unfaithful Soundtrack. Will’s body is super hot. I’m wondering if the camera work makes me feel underwhelmed by Jessica. I really didn’t ‘see’ her. Nice chemistry though. The judges loved the number and the performance – they also felt that Jessica rose to better match Will.
Courtney and Gev learn to cha-cha from Anya and Pasha (from season 3). Don’t Stop the Music by Rhianna. It felt too disco-y for me. Again, bad camera work that probably didn’t highlight the hip and foot action. There were comments about some lack of technique from Gev. Mia said that they are not the best dancers on the show, but their performance quality is what keeps them from the bottom.
Kherington and Twitch krump with Lil C. Still don’t care for this style, but it’s the best krumping from any pair on the show since the 1st time. Judges also seem to agree that this was the best krumping they’ve seen on this show – both Mia and Nigel noted that she lost some energy towards the end, but give her a lot of credit.
Katee and Joshua waltz by Jean-Marc Genereaux and Marie France. Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. His footwork needed some work, but, as always, they had great chemistry for me. Overall, the judges really felt strongly negative about Joshua’s footwork, thought the lifts were great and loved Katee – all agreed that the overall performance was ok to good.
Chelsi and Mark broadway with Tyce. I’m A Woman from Smokey Joe’s Café. Her characterization could have been a little more stand-offish, but overall good. The judges seem to be enamored of her legs tonight. Nigel and Mary loved it, Mia cited Mark’s lack of technique being overcome by his performance and thought that Chelsi needed more ‘movement.’
Comfort and Thayne work on contemporary with Mandy Moore. A Different Corner by George Michael. The lack of connection is really hurting them in this number. It should be more emotional. I really thought the number would have been absolutely breathtaking if another pair had performed it. Judges agreed.
Jessica and Will quickstep a la Tony and Meredith. Bandstand Boogie by Barry Manilow. One of the better quicksteps on this show, but I felt some energy was lost towards the end. Nigel thought all the various parts, except the quickstep, were good. Mary said that Will’s jacket was not an asset and that Jessica’s frame broke. Mia bluntly stated that Will looks tired of carrying his partner and that he needs to dance with someone else. Cat asked Will how he felt and he said that he was happy that Jessica had her breakthrough.
Courtney and Gev jazz with Mandy Moore. Standing There by The Creatures – couple lost in the jungle. Indiana Jones-wear. I enjoyed it more than the cha-cha. Nigel thought it lacked substance – Mary and Mia enjoyed it.
Kherington and Twitch smooth tango with Jean-Marc and Marie-France. Assassin’s Tango from the Mr & Mrs Smith soundtrack. Twitch needed to be a little more assertive. I didn’t feel real tension in the routine. Judges pretty much panned it as mediocre.
Katee and Joshua go to Bollywood. Dhoom Taana. I was pleasantly entertained. I thought they stayed in synch with each other and seemed to do a good job. It was fun. Judges enjoyed it. For me, it was the most entertaining of the night.
Overall, I wasn’t thrilled this week. I think they change partners next week when we’re down to the top 10.
Bottom 3
Comfort & Thayne
Jessica & Will
Courtney & Gev
Comfort and Thayne should be the ones to go.
Technically, perhaps, Twitch and Kherington could be bottom 3, but his popularity will keep them in the top.
