So-Youn Park

Yes, her score would have been around 60, considering that she would get +GOE on the flip, would avoid the -1 deduction on the fall, and get higher PCS for a clean program. This would have put her in the second to last group, which definitely would have boosted her PCS by a couple of points in the FS.

IMO, her 3S-3T is getting a bit less GOE than it deserves (I would give it +2, but many judges at Worlds gave it only a +1). This, too, is due to her low reputation.

Once again, she needs to work on her mental strength (That should be her top priority. She does not have any technical and artistic problems. It's all in the head for her, as you can see from her clumsy misses in the spins in 4CC and Worlds). Once she gets her mental strength together, she will put together clean SPs, which would lead to better placement in the FS, better PCS scores in the FS, boost her reputation, and so on. It's a positive feedback once she gets it together.
So Youn has what it takes to be a star. She just needs to work on her confidence. Hopefully, she'll improve on that in the upcoming season. :)

would love for Soyoun to skate to something like this again

she should pick something that will help her show more personality
i am still sad about worlds, about whole season actually, she deserves more but she keeps giving the judges to excuse not to give her better PCS, she needs some kind of intervension, she has all the goods except competetive mindset and concentration, she keeps doing little mistakes (esp those spin mistakes are really frustrating :bang:( not sure how the coaching is for her but i think they are part of this problem, it was her 1st full senior season, so i hope she will have better mindset next season, i still believe in her :cheer:

I agree, she needs some very spunky and/or music that "makes a point" or has a "character", kind of like Yuna's Les Mis medley, which I could argue to be the best-chosen an best-fitting skater soundtrack of all time....

I hope she doesn't go for the super well-known ones everyone has recycled many times.
For example, there are some lesser known movie soundtracks, like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmeaUczh52g
Or maybe some Miyazaki film soundtracks?
Like this one is very nice, has the flair of Miss Saigon but obviously not Miss Saigon ;) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArsV7AFZBHY

Guys, I just finished updating the OP for the very lovely So Youn Park. I had problems finding articles about her, and I hope you guys will be able to tell me about some more. Anyway, check it out?

thanks a lot for your hard work, not just for so youn but for others as well!! :cheer:

As PyeongChang draws closer, the scrutiny will only rise. Hope her federation is supporting her in the full range of ways that a young athlete will need heading into a host country Olympics. She certainly has the talent. Hoping the full balance of on and off ice support is there as well.

I know, I wish so too. Although there are some younger girls like Da Bin who seem to fare even better in the technical department, and with wonderful technique. Maybe a bit of domestic competition would inspire So Yon to really show the fighting spirit?

Also, do we know when we'll know her new music?

SY also has Sohyun who is competing in the junior circuit soon. She's also eligible to compete in the PC Olympics and has so far showed some consistency last season. Not only that, Sohyun is being pegged as one of the three hopefuls that SK wants to see in 2018. If SY does not work fast with her mental strength, I can see Sohyun surpassing her in the upcoming seasons leading to the Olympics. She may even be SK's only entry to the ladies event*.

*okay maybe SY will be able to get 2 spots if she improves and it is possible for her to grab those spots but I'm thinking about the worst scenario here.

note: yes SK has other skaters that are PC-eligible but Sohyun showed the most potential at the moment by nabbing the National bronze and doing the harder 3-3s with better quality than the rest (excluding SY and maybe DB). Surprising that all of 3 are in Coach Jung's hands. Well, she has Eunsoo too but she isn't PC-eligible. Eunsoo does have that magnetic quality that those three lacks. Anyway, the politics that's brewing in the SK rinks is -worthy.
