So-Youn Park

Please tell Soyoun that I'm on my way to Sampo because I just feel so confused (my emotions at the moment: :sad21::palmf::giveup::dbana::cry:) about what to feel about her and I can't deal with the judging this season.

I really thought her expression and speed were noticeably improved - such a shame about the forever 25 PCS. Can't believe shes below 20th place either - praying for a clean FS.

Guys, I was at the Ladies SP live in the front. I cheered got So Youn so loud, but sigh.....

The start was so good. She looked really confident after that lutz, so I thought she was going to go clean, but then after that combo mess up, everything went downhill. Her speed got noticeably slower and the edges got rougher.

Her step sequence was very, very slow and labored, which was unfortunate. There was an even a slight slip...

But I have not given up on her yet. I am hoping for a clean R&J Saturday!

Let me know if you guys have questions.

Oh So Youn... I'm so bummed about this...

Also, speaking about the lutz, why were the GOEs for it so low? She got +0.80 at 4CC, and I thought this lutz looked a bit better than that one.

I don't understand that either! Her lutz was solid live. Good distance, edge, technique. She even had steps going into it. Oh well. It seems that the only way So Youn will be able to move to te top is the traditional way of putting out more consistent skates.

This is my first time watching So Youn, and yes, she is very lovely. But what I really noticed is that she needs to work on her skating skills, especially deeper edges and speed. Her speed going into the jumps are actually not that bad, but the step sequence was very slow that there were moments I wanted to push her...

Btw, SY's 2A was absolutely huge. It can't get any better!!

I hope she will work her butt off on these parts of her skating this summer. She can really become a contender if she can improve in these areas.

I know SY is not a top skater, but whenever I see her make mistakes in the SP, it makes me so angry and mad for some reason. Perhaps I myself is expecting another Yuna Kim from korea too much, and expect SY to do just as much. I may have to lower my expectation from her little bit, but I now am worried that Korea might only get 1 spot next year

actually crowd kinda loved Dabin's program, mainly because that funny music, crowd related to the lyrics of that music, thought it is really cute on Dabin, it is horrible but also cute and funny in a way.
but, tbh Dabin's presentation is really weak.

As for SoYoun, condition not good like I reported before, therefore, I was not mad nor sad about her SP performance.
she has a really good SP practice this morning though. cannot remember the tech part, but performance is on in practice.
also, SoYoun's cross-over seems not efficient.

Is a top 12 finish the only way Korea gets two spots for next year?

Both SY and DB seem to have similar SS issues - I don't want to take the easy way out and blame it on coaching, but maybe they would benefit from a change.

If they finish 13th and 15th respectively, then they will have two spots I think. But they won't be automatically getting two Grand Prix events. They have to finish 12th or higher for that. But what I mean by automatically is that they won't be confirmed right away for a second GP, so we would have to hope they get lucky to get two GPs.

I really hope one of them can get in the top 12 but if that level of cleanliness carries over for all the ladies into the FS, it's going to be really tough.:palmf:

Even if Sy skates clean, I highly doubt she'll receive score above 120 since she'll be skating in the lower group. :( i really want her to do well..........

If she goes clean, I'm pretty sure she'll score over 120. She'll probably get a technical score around 70.

But the problem is the PCS. Since she's in the first group, she's probably going to only get in the lower 50's even when clean. Sigh... I'm so sick and tired of her getting a 51 for the FS PCS....

I can't believe how low her score was tonight. I thought it was relatively clean, but I guess she was called for << on the flip and < on loop and the second 2A-3T. Otherwise I don't get how the tech dropped that low. And that PCS in the 40s :scratch2:

Both So Youn and Da Bin's ridiculously low scores left me devastated. Thankfully the final two groups made me forget about how pissed I was, though.

At this point, I'm really worried about So Youn. South Korea is back down to 1 spot for Worlds, and So Youn might not even get two GPs. :sad14:  I hope that everyone keeps voting for her to go to TCC. She needs another chance to prove herself in the U.S.

I hate to say this, but I do not see any improvement from her in the future. With young Korean skaters rising and beating her at the Nationals, she's only going to be pushed back.
If she wants to improve, I think the first step she needs to take is to find another coach, and work from there.

I saw Soyoun outside the Loge seating inbetween groups at the ladies FS today :) She was very nice! I wish she was able to score higher, but I really enjoyed her performance.

I agree a change is needed. Still so much potential :(

Looking at the scoresheet and having not seen her live last night, I had got the impression that she had a really bad skate if the score was anything to go by. But having seen the video itself, I just don't think she deserved such low score. She really got dinged in this occasion in a very obvious way. :sad21:

It's sad that Team Korea will only have one place to fill next year. Even more sad is that SoYoun probably won't get in the team. But the worst part is that I don't feel Team Korea will be able to restore 2 slots for Olympics, let alone 3, for S.Korea in the next Worlds:palmf:
