I've heard the speculation about CSKA before, and I don't know enough about the politics of Russian figure skating to say how much truth there is to that, but (and this is a little off topic) I'd think that having Mishin as her coach isn't exactly hurting Sonya either. After Konstantinova and Gubanova performed as well as they did at senior nationals, I am a little bit worried for Sonya if those two and Eteri's girls all go clean. If she gets a JGP spot, I think she has just as much a chance of doing well there next year as she did this year, but it seems like if she makes it to the final she'll probably get outskated again. Sigh.

Maybe the Fed will pull a Mikhailova again and randomly send her to Rostelecom

Hey Sonya fans! any updates on how her preparation for next season is going? how her arm is? if she's going senior or not?

I hope we will see her competing again, one way for the other. I also wonder about those rumours of her changing the country...

Based on the most recent photos on her Instagram, it looks like her arm is healed, or that she's at least out of a cast if she was in one to begin with. I haven't seen anything skating related from her yet.

I really hope those rumors about the country switch are true. Israel is in need of a strong ladies skater, and representing them would likely give Sonya the opportunity to compete at Euros, Worlds, and the Olympics. It's a win-win.

I totally agree! It would be a great way to improve Israeli skating and for her to be able to have more experience :) Glad to see she's healed mostly

Yessss! She could and very well may pull a Caro K if she switches country.

Thats why I don't like the system which is sometimes forcing athletes (skaters) to switch country and represent state that has no credit for their training and development. I wish it would be possible to gain more entries for one country instead (depending on the results of course).

That was great news indeed.

One would think that she would have a pretty good chance to get the 3rd Rostelecom spot also.

They can decide later, right? So, if she does well, they'd be smart to give it to her.

Yes, they will decide that later. I would think her chances are pretty good but there are other contenders like Pogo if she is healthy and Mikhailova who did well last year at Rostelecom. Sima and Gulyakova could also be contenders.

She's in Courchevel at Mishin camp now and there are a lot of her photos with Wakaba (who joined the camp), Alisa and the rest of the group. Benoit Richaud worked with Wakaba on her new program and now he is at the camp as well, working with Alisa and Yvett - but I'm not sure about Sofia though she's in the photos with them.

Yeah, me too. If she medals, they should definitely give it to her as it would mean she could reach the GPF. It would be good if she can makes a name for herself before the next generation turns senior.

+ Nastya Gubanova also, hopefully. But great for Sonya to get that one assignment (and hopefully 2 with the host spot)

I would prefer that Gubanova would skate JGP events but we will have to wait and see what the Russian Fed thinks about it.

Tarusina could be a real contender for the 3rd Rostelecom spot also if she doesn't get any JGP events. Nugumanova could be a contender too.

So, now that it seems that Gubanova, Gulyakova and Tarusina will get JGP event(s) that means that there will be three ladies less trying to get that last Rostelecom spot.

It would seem that Sofia, Sima, Pogo, Mikhailova and maybe Nugumanova would be the main contenders now.

I think Sofia is going to surprise people this season. People don’t talk about her much, even here on the forums, but she has a fire and artistic passion all uniquely her own. I think she has potential to breakout strong this year but we will see.

I agree and hope the same. She won two jgp's last year. She has talent.

Sofia has been added to the entry list of Lombardia Trophy.

Hopefully she will have a great international senior debut.

Yes i am intrigued to see her this season. I was impressed with her last season, she has beautiful jumps and an interesting/original interpretation that made her stand out

The other day I had a Sonya re-watch binge hour and re-watched her 2017 Nationals FS, among others. I LOVE that program :luv17:
