Some Music Suggestions for Our Top Ladies Next Season

Excellent post, Morninglight.

I can see the skaters' style and hear their music playing. Spot on analysis.:agree:
JW

I think that caroline Zhang picked two selectioin of music that were too similar for her programs this year. I like it when a skater shhows two diffrent styles in thier long and short. Like Yu-Na Kim. I would like to see Caroline skate to somthing inspiring a gentle for her LP, but mayeb show a little attitude in her SP? I would love seeing her skate to the arabian dance.... from the nutcraker. Her flexiblity would really shine.

Mari should use memoirs of a geshhia for one of her programs beofre that great musci get s overplayed....it's quickly getting there. :chorus:

I liked most of the musical choices this season - except I did not care for Joannie Rochettes short program music - "Little Wing". It was too harsh.

I am only disagreeing so ones who did like it are voiced. Nothing wrong with not liking it:agree: , just that I LOVED it. Gim'me Jimmy!

TtonyV7, I love your suggestions of "Schindler's List" for Susanna and "The Last Emperor" for Yu-Na. Yu-Na reminds me a lot of Lu Chen in how fully she expresses the music.

I wouldn't mind if she kept "The Lark Ascending" though. That music is gorgeous, and a clean performance would vault that to masterpiece status.

I would love for Fumie to skate another power program like she did in 2004-2005. Maybe something by Tan Dun would be good: Tan Dun. "Picasso's Dance" by Hiroshima(?) would work too.
For the short program, I think Debussy's "Clair de Lune" would be good. It has the same ethereal feeling that she captured so well with her "Ave Maria" SP from 2002.

For Bebe Liang-
SP: Danse Macabre
LP: Her Caravan program from this season, I hope.

Oh, I would love to see Yu-Na's "Last Emperor" as well as her clean performance of "The Lark Ascending", too! The feminine piece that Lu Chen did for her last Olympics LP may also be great:)

I would like to see Kimie skating Brazilian Bachinas Nº 5 by Vila-Lobos.. i thik is a great song for her skate one SP

I really like your taste in skaters;)

Thanks:) I like yours, too.

eta, I was not all that fond of the Fantasia piece for Fumie, like the skate / choreography (LOVE her exspressions), but not so much the chanting in the music on a incessant basis.

It was nice that she did not get any deduction for the use of vocal music. She also had a spot where she danced for more than 15 seconds without doing elements when she could have done a spin using that time.
I thought it really courageous and very Fumie

Besides, I liked that song. It's very pleasant, happy, and has a contemporary style. I also loved her costume and ponytail. Since she had a more serious, heavy piece last season (I loved that a lot, too, though), it was a nice change:)

Ah yes, "Butterfly Lovers"! It'd be hard to top Lulu's interpretation though.

I'm not sure who yet but here are some things I would love to see someone skating to:

City of Angels score - Gabriel Yared
any of The Mummy scores - Alan Silvestri
Cirque du Soleil has a bunch of different things
James Newton Howard's scores - Blood Diamond, Peter Pan
Take Five - Dave Brubeck

He is my suggestions, that I think suit their style:

Yu Na Kim:

SP: Illumination: Secret Garden
FP: Flamenco Romanza

Mao Asada:

SP: Clare Du Lune: Debussy
FP: Sense and Sensibility Soundtrack

Miki Ando:

SP: Goton Project Rhythms
FP: Fifth Element Soundtrack

Yukair Nakano:

SP: Memoirs of Geisha (keep as last year)
FP: La Baydere: Ballet

Carolina Kostner:

SP: Canon: Pachebel (just beautiful for her)
FP: Birth Soundtrack (Carolina can do wonders with this)

Joannie Rochette:

SP: Robert Horns Blues
FP: Metamorphoses and other plays (from SP of 04) or Blade Runner mix

Sussanna Poykio:

SP: Schindlers Liszt (brill choice!!!!)
FP: Scent of a Woman or Ave Maria mix

Kiira Korpi:

SP: Valse Sentimentale: Tchiakovsky
FP: Grease Medley

Valentina Marchei:

SP: Piazolla Argentine Tango (Valentina full of energy for this)
FP: Spanish Fiery Flamenco

would love seeing her [Caroline Zhang] skate to the arabian dance.... from the nutcraker. Her flexiblity would really shine.

I agree:clap: Her attack, strength, and flexibility would suit that kind of character music. I felt that her LP was a bit too soft for her, even though she skated to it beautifully.

I wonder if Emily has ever considered "Slaughter on 10th Avenue" the ballet from On Your Toes written by Richard Rodgers? I think it might fit her bold style.

The Arabian Dance could be great for Zhang, if she could skate up to it. She doesn't show much pep or enthusiasm or personality when she skates which could make it a pretty drab program. If she can show us that there is, in fact, a thinking, breathing, feeling person inside the rubbery shell, then it would make for a great program.

I think Memoirs is already overused! Also, I don't feel that it would really suit Mirai's style or personality. Maybe in a few years when she gains a bit more maturity.

I personally do not enjoy young skaters use music associated with themes like Geisha, Madame Butterfly, Miss Saigon etc. If I have a daughter in future who figure skates, I would never allow her to skate to that kind of music. Little, adorable Mirai skates to Memoirs? NO, NO, NO.

I actually thought I saw shades of "Butterfly Lovers" in "The Lark Ascending".

i love lu chen, but i think that yuna can pull it off. and maybe she can top lu chen's performance and win a gold in the olympics with it. ;)

for emily. why not pick a song off broadway. from wicked or rent? i'm being so impartial here.

and i think i am in line with morninglight on not wanting to see a 14 year old skate to memoirs of a geisha.

That would be soooo good

I have to admit, I did not enjoy Susanna Poykio's SP this season. I am a fan of Metallica but it was just too heavy for her style, imo. I would however quite like to see how Elena Sokolova or Julia Sebastien would handle it.

I would also love to see Valentina skate to Carmina Burana. I know it's a little heavy but I think she's got just the right amount of fire to tackle it.
