Spanish National Championships, 11-14 December 2025

Is this our first red door to be painted black this week?

It wasn't the Rolling Stones. It was that female cover that is so popular in skating.

June NÚÑEZ ARDANZA (NAV) was wearing a black dress with a red belt.

That was good!

There was practically nothing between the first two skaters after the SP. But the gap is going to open up now.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall. By just shy of 10 points.

Alejandra GARCÍA LEÓN (MAD) was wearing a green dress with silver pattern. And orange knickers.

Have we got an undercover Irish girl on our hands?

Very dramatic instrumental music. It was like something you would find in the "Lord Of The Rings" soundtrack (maybe it is! I don't know),

I loved that!!!

Unfortuantely, she had a fall.

She's sitting on her own, so she might actually be team-mates with the next skater, Maia GÓMEZ CHECA (MAD).

Alejandra goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

Maia GÓMEZ CHECA (MAD) is wearing a gorgeous deep blue dress.

I wasn't keen on the vocalisations in the first third of the music, but I enjoyed the more Middle Eastern feel of the rest of the programme.

She had quite a few issues. Including a fall.

There was one point I thought she was going over to the panel to ask to stop, but it was part of the choreography.

Yep, when we started seeing the results area, the previous skater, Alejandra GARCÍA LEÓN (MAD), gave her a big hug, and they sat down together with three coaches. So, as I suspected, they are indeed team-mates.

Maia goes into 3rd position in both the FS and overall. A couple of points behind Alejandra.

Laura CARRERA ANGULO (MAD) is also wearing a gorgeous deep blue dress. Although there is a lot less to this one.

And she is also skating to music with a Middle Eastern feel.

Hang on. That sounds like Rihanna's voice. But, surely it's not her.

This music is giving film soundtrack vibes. So, was Rihanna in any films set in the Middle East?

Anyway, I enjoyed that.

She goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

The final skater in the opening group, Lucía PEIROTEN RESCALVO (MAD), has a lot of support in the audience.

She is wearing a very white dress and matching gloves. And skating to Loren Allred's "Never Enough".

Although the sparkle has gone off this song for me due to Loren lying when she was on "Britain's Got Talent", you can't deny that it is a beautiful song that produces great programmes.

And on the whole it was a beautiful skate. However, she had a fall.

Oh no, she had to pull out of a spin just before the end. I think her leg is giving her trouble.

But she did manage to finish the programme.

She is annoyed when waiting for her scores.

She goes into 3rd position in both the FS and overall.

"Take On Me" started playing in the ultimo minuto.

That is a great song to give you encouragement before doing your programme!

The computer froze, so I missed the first few seconds of the programme from Bibian Esther NAVARRO RICALDI (MAD). But I don't think I missed seeing much, because when it came back, she had started but we were still on the static camera shot that gets used during the Warm-Up.

Thankfully, they soon went back to the normal camera.

She was wearing a black jumpsuit with green sparkly pattern, and doing a "James Bond" programme.

It was beautiful. But I always tend to enjoy Jame Bond programmes.

New leader of both the FS and overall.

The first of back-to-back Basque team-mates, Otxanda ERRASTI PARGARAY (EUS), was wearing a very different dress. It was blue and black with white trim and a lot of cut-outs.

She was skating to Middle Eastern music, but it was that song where half-way through it goes all techno and the singer starts wailing.

It was strange.

She goes into 4th position in the FS, and 3rd position overall.

The second of the Basque skaters, Naia LÓPEZ de MUNAIN ECHEVERRIA (EUS) was wearing a gorgeous black dress with a sparkly pattern eminating from her neck.

The first half was a medley of instrumental versions of songs from classic films. Starting with "Big Spender". And then the second half was all
"Rich Man’s Frug"

I absolutely loved that programme!

Unfortunately, she had two falls.

Awww. Lovely group photo being taken of Naia, Otxanda and their coach on the sofa.

Both of them putting their jackets on while sitting down. Which didn't work very well!

Naia goes into 3rd poisition in the FS, and the lead overall.

Lucía SIERRA IZQUIERDO (MAD) wearing a simple but gorgeous black dress with blue belt patterm.

She was skating to "My Immortal" by Evanesence. Now that is a song I would love to see skated to more often.

That was beautiful. Just beautiful.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

After dressing like Santa Claus yesterday, Marta BRASERO DÍAZ (MAD) has gone full goth today!!! 😲

I have no idea what the concept of the programme was. I heard the immortal quote "Mirror mirror on the wall" at one stage.

But, I absoltuely loved it.

Unfortunately, she had a fall.

She goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

The only foreign skater in this competition, Enola POULAIN (FRA), was skating to a Beatles medley. A mixture of instrumental, cover, and original versions.

She was wearing a black dress which was reminiscent of the uniforms that the boys wore in the "Sergeant Pepper" album cover. (Yes, I know the boys were wearing colourful uniforms, but you know what I mean!)

Although some of the versions of the songs left a lot to be desired, on the whole I enjoyed it.

She's got a crowd of grown-ups with her.

She goes into 2nd position in bothe hte FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

And now that Enola has skated, we have reached the stage where all the remaining skaters apart from one are from Madrid.

We go into the resurfacing with Inés VÁZQUEZ GARRIDO (MAD), and I am sure I saw somebody wearing a very similar dress to this yesterday! It is brown-ish green-ish colour, with a white belt.

More music with an Middle Eastern feel. But, I don't know how you would describe it. It was different. There was a bit of everything in there.

But, she skated it well.

She goes into 3rd position in both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Right, we go to the resurfacing at the time that it is supposed to be finishing!

I assume it will still be 15 minutes.

Nope, they cut it to 10 minutes.

Group 3 skaters coming onto the ice now to start their Warm-Up.

This group starts with six girls from Madrid, and then finishes with the third of the three Basque girls. Who is also the last girl in this competition that is not from Madrid.

I think we all knew when we saw what she was wearing that Elsa QUERO MENENDEZ (MAD) would be doing a Michael Jackson programme.

But she decided to confuse us by starting with a Jackson 5 song - "Can You Feel It". But this soon gave way to "Earth Song", "Billie Jean" and "Smooth Criminal".

She was wearing a red top and black trousers.

It wasn't completely clean. But I enjoyed that.

She looks disappointed, slouching on the sofa.

She goes into 3rd position in both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Similarly, I think we all knew when we saw what she was wearing that Nora MELGUIZO GÓMEZ (MAD) would be doing an "Alice In Wonderland" programme.

She was wearing a pale turquise dress with a three of hearts design on the front.

Very strange start over by the panel. She wasn't flirting à la Loena. She was being creepy!

Well, I have to commend her for having a selection of music from the film, rather than just using the one song we normally hear (which was also in there).

A very different programme. And I enjoyed it.

They're taking a long time with the scores.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

I think when we saw Leyre FERNANDEZ MORA (MAD)'s costume, we knew it was going to be a different programme.

The top left hand side of her costume was pale blue. The right hand side was leopard print (?). And she had a brown rag wrapped around her as a skirt.

Jungle drums. Then a single violin playing familiar music. Then birds. Then the full music.

Fall on the first jump.

It was all rather strange.

But, she goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Lucía YANGUAS LÓPEZ (MAD) was wearing a dresss that was pale grey at the top and became pale yellow as you went down. For a "Top Gun" programme?!

No, I can't work out the connection either.

But, she skated it well. And that is the main thing.

Oh, we've lost the picture from the camera in the resutls area.

She goes into 5th position in the FS, and 3rd position overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Elsa PLAZA GONZALEZ (MAD) wearing a red dress.

She is skating to an awful version of "That Man". I don't know who it is, but it certainly isn't Caro Emerald! Eh?! The song finished with them singing a line of Beyoncé's "Bootylicious".

Thank goodness the skating was better than the song!

She goes into 8th position in the FS, and 7th position overall.

But, she is still happy!
