Stars on Ice USA 2023

They do tables now? Dang...that's no fun.

Last year, no more of the traditional small tables and randomly assorted skaters. (never been, but I've heard and seen enough photos of pre 2020 M&Gs). The selfies were from the other side of the table, and fans stayed in line. Kind of like a mega book signing. Except you didn't get items signed, just a pre-signed program.

Of course, I don't know if they will revert back to the "Old style" for this year's M&G.

Maybe 2023 means things might be more normal again? Idk. I want to be sure I can give Ilia the hat I made for him, say I created his fanfest on this site, and that it's great that a skater from my home county is making it big. I want to say other things obviously (Like ideas for programs), but I want to get those things out of the way. I need to make sure I say it short and sweet.

And of course I would love to talk to Piper and Paul and Jason.

I really hope they are letting fans give skaters their gifts, such a sweet thing to do. I do think you should be able to talk to Ilia about representing NoVA and talk about the FF. Programs might be a stretch, but again, I've not been, only heard from other people.

Of course, I don't care how hungry Jason is or how much he wants to get on the bus, he will talk to every fan forever and a day if you let him. There's a reason they send the Zamboni out to get him off the ice for signatures and selfies once a comp is done. So maybe if the handler is sleeping. ;)

I love Jason! He was giving hugs when I saw him at a M&G after the show in Providence in 2014. He's such a sweetheart!

I'll ask the stars on ice store on email that tomorrow regarding gifts. If there's nothing not saying it, it might be allowed? Hopefully?

You did his name in Russian and English? Very cool. You are quite talented, too! I can barely sew on a button so anyone who actually has talent with any kind of thread and needle is impressive to me!
Thank you! Yes I did! It's not that difficult. Well for me at least. You just have to plan it in a notebook that's sort of a grid notebook, number it out, and then make sure you know where you are. It's easier than knitting an actual picture onto something tbh.

During last year's Meet & Greet I was able to give Mirai a card that had some photos from 2021 Skate America in Las Vegas (from the Ice Desk). I also got to show Jason a picture of one of our nephews whom I believe looks just like him (the post ponytail look).

The one time I did a M&G at SOI (and I think I already posted this somewhere) we didn't know who the skaters would be until we were in line. And it was like a reception line. Just a thought if you're taking gifts for a particular skater you may not be able to get it to him/her. Of course they could have changed this process since I was there. I did get to meet and talk to Patrick Chan and was super pleased at interacting with him. Such a nice guy,

I'm starting to lose hope that we will be getting additional tour dates on the east coast - I suppose this combined North American tour of 20 dates is enough for the skaters.

Really wanted to see Satoko and Kurt's last tour but there will always be Youtube fan videos to watch.

Pretty sure the tour schedule is complete - after they added the San Jose show, they took away the "More cities to be announced" on the tickets page.

FYI, Kurt has announced that the 2023 tour will be his last with Stars on Ice. He's had an amazing run, particularly on the Canadian tour. The 2023 tour will be his 30th, and he's performed in nearly 1000 Stars on Ice shows in the US and Canada (not to mention Japan, Germany, Brazil...).

I'm putting together a project to collect fan messages and memories to post on the Kurt Files and compile into a book to give Kurt after the final tour. If you'd like to contribute, please go to this Google form. Email addresses are not required and will not be published or shared. The form is just the easiest way for me to organize responses. Please also share the link with anyone who might be interested in contributing! Thanks!

I emailed Stars on Ice through the tour website a few weeks ago, urging them to add a New York-area show.
The tour replied a few days ago, saying there were no plans for additional dates.
My wife and I are going to the Boston show. It probably will be the last chance to see a few of the skaters perform live.

I doubt very much it's the fault of SOI that they aren't appearing in more sites. They really have to find a venue that will book them. For several years in a row the San Jose show was on Mother's Day. My family was NOT happy. But in talking to the people in the ticket office, that was the only day that there weren't concerts scheduled or basketball games or any of the other events that SAP hosts. I would also imagine that it takes some time to take the floor up and condition the ice. The waning interest in figure skating in this country has a ripple effect.

I want to know what the M&G situation was like in Japan if there were M&Gs....so I can get an idea on how it might go in the year 2023.

Pretty sure there are not, at least none were mentioned on the 3057352058363 tweets I've seen about it. I mean can you imagine the unholy scrimmage?

And most of the overseas skaters except Jason probably don't speak Japanese or Chinese.

That is true. It's held to the same level as the big 4 sports leagues are held in the USA it seems.

Thought I'd post this Stars On Ice Canada review here, seeing that it has a lot (but not all) of the same skaters who will be at the U.S. show. Sounds like it was a good time!
