State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

Do you think that Proklova will stay in JGP for the next season? I thought maybe I could try to ask on her ask, but I still understand very little Russian and I can't write Russian anyway. I think maybe after this season it would be better for her to stay in JGP.

It is probably up to her but it is unlikely that she would get GP events at the senior level. Russians have too many senior ladies who could do with two GP events and they are better at this moment than her. Don't forget that the number of spots per country is limted. Tuktamysheva, Radionova, Lipnitskaya, Pogorilaya, Sotnikova, medvedeva, Sakhanovich will very likely get two spots. Leonova probably too, unless the Federation decides to retire her.
It is unclear whether Sotskova will move to seniors, but if she does, that's already 18 spots gone and there is no guarantee that they will even get that many spots. It is up to host countries who they invite. If you were US federation , would you invite three Russian ladies? It could decrease chances of their own skaters to get to the GPF. Same with the Japanese federation.

And that still leaves Artemeva and Gosviani without GP spots.

So if Proklova moves to seniors, we may see her only at senior B which would be a pity. She may as well stay in juniors, try to get to JGPF and junior worlds and get some ranking points.

Yeah, I hope Proklova stays in Juniors, too: she had excellent JGP events and then a not-so-good final last year, then no JW and after that this almost disastrous season (except for a couple of decent performances here and there). She is fully capable of winning medals at JGPF and JW, so why should she go to Seniors, where she would end up with low PCS and low placements even with good elements?
 
I'm pretty sure Proklova will stay in juniors another year for more competition experience and to rack up some medals to give her momentum going into seniors. Will Gubanova and Nugumanova also enter Juniors next season? With Evgenia and Serafima moving up Proklova biggest competition will probably be the Japanese ladies.

edit: just realized that Tsurkaya will be in the mix too, oh Russia, you and your up and coming ladies:drama:

and I thought Gosviani didn't compete this season due to issues with her coach?

Gubanova and Nugumanova won't be junior eligible next season yet. Only the season after that.

Proklova's biggest competition won't be only the Japanese ladies. There is a few young Russian ladies that are newly eligible. The best one is Tsurskaya, who is coached by Tutberidze. She managed to beat Gubanova and Nugumanova at Russian juniors nationals, and once also Sotskova and once Medvedeva at some Russian competitions. The other young Russian ladies are Feditchkina, Solovieva and a few others who are not as good.

Gosviani didn't compete because she was injured. She left her coach (Urmanov) before the last season, It wasn't clear who her new coach was but then her season didn't start because of the injury. I can't see her getting GP spots so maybe it would be the best if she used the time off for swapping country, otherwise it will be only B competitions for her from now on.

Agreed. I think both Proklova and Sotskova should stay junior next year. Both struggled this season and are much better skaters than what they put out this season. I still think Sotskova has a lot more to offer and I can't get over Proklova's speed and skating skills...I think both ladies will benefit more from staying junior than trying to enter the already crowded field of senior Russian ladies.

Thanks for the heads up about Nugumanova and Gubanova, I guess the upcoming season is the best time for Proklova to try and nab those medals. And I nearly forgot about Tsurkaya but she will be in the running too. She only beat Evgenia recently so I don't think it'll be a huge issue since Evgenia has competed so much this past year and probably lost some drive after getting the Junior World title. I'm not really confident in girls coming from Tutberidze though, they always come out with suspect jump technique and I'm not sure if they'll last yet.

You could say that about any female skater, that we don't know if they would last. Puberty doesn't make differences between skaters according to who their coach is. Saying that, Tutberidze's lady skaters seem to be very consistent. Last season Lipnitskaya, this season Medvedeva and Tsurskaya...

Gosviani could switch to Georgia. One of her parents has Georgian background. Saying that, there are not good relationships between Russia and Georgia and therefore I am not sure if Russian federation would want to release her. And if they did release her, would she be allowed to train at Russian rink with Russian coaches? Gedevanishvilli used to have some problems (couldn't stay in Russia) although it was about 10 years ago. Maybe the situation would be different now.

I've heard that Gosviani had switched to Tarasova, is this for real? I don't know if move to Tarasova is a good idea these days. Wasn't Tarasova working just as a choreographer and consultant?

No, she didn't switch to Tarasova . She turned to Tarasova foe help (as most skaters do when they feel they need help with transfer. Kovtun did it, Gachinsky, Voronov...). Tarasova arranged her to move to CSKA but she wasn't going to be her coach. At the time when Gosviani gave an interview, she didn't know herself who the coach would be (or maybe was asked not to say it yet), and then she disappeared because of the injury. Some people were guessing that it may be Sokolovskaya, but we don't know anything for sure.

I think that Tarasova may be one of the coaches of Nicole (may even be officially). In an interview of Tarasova, was called combination of the coaches Tarasova, Sokolovskaya, Zavozin. In another interview with her (later) was Tarasova, Uspenskiy, Zavozin as coaches. Tarasova said in an interview that she made the SP and FP for Nicole for this season. At ltk-cska.ru she was mentioned as a student of Tarasova. But no official information was nowhere.

I think it was summer so not everyone was there. Some skaters attended shows or were off on holidays. She mentioned that the coaches with whom she was working at that moment won't necessarily be her coaches later. She said that everyone was so supportive and helping her. So I don't think we know for sure what coach Tarasova intended for her. Also, the fact that Tarasova made her programs doesn't mean that she was her coach. Some coaches choreograph for skaters whom they don't coach, like Morozov for example.
