State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

I wonder if we'll actually see Adelina compete again. I'm sure CSKA officials will say yes and secure her funding but I'm not so sure it will go any farther than that.

Buianova refused one of the current top skaters who recently tried to move to her group
Why does Anna have such bad luck with coaches? Buianova just took Proklova, I don't buy the "too busy for a new athlete" angle. Surely she heard the rumors about Anna before she took Proklova, she could've waited. I mean Anna is supposed to be at least one of the top 10 female skaters in the world. How come nobody seems to care about her?

If this is so why Buianova would refuse Anna? Proklova is too young to replace Adelina. Unless Anna'd began working with Buianova but both realised they did not suit each other? in this case Anna's situation is not very pretty

It was obvious from a recent sovsport interview that Sotnikova is planning to keep skating. http://www.sovsport.ru/gazeta/article-item/794833

There is no "too busy for a new athlete" angle... Proklova and Pogorilaya are completely different in that Proklova is already at CSKA, is staying in juniors, and may never skate on the Senior Grand Prix circuit while Pogorilaya has actually beaten Sotnikova before at a grand prix event...

If only it was possible, I wish Anna went to Orser.
She already has it all. She just needs a bit of refinement and to overcome whatever mental block she developped this season.
Orser doesn't have a strong ladie skater atm and he is very competent and experienced in these two areas.

It would be a great match but alas never going to happen

Vaitsekhovskaia here saying that Adelina is very serious about her comeback and as a proof mentions that Buianova refused one of the current top skaters who recently tried to move to her group:

I wonder if it could be Anna

I am skeptical; I will believe it only when I see Adelina at events. But I would love for her to compete again. She has such amazing basic skating skills, jumps, spins and presentation. She is the whole package; I think she's the only skater who can seriously challenge Liza.

Proklova is old enough for senior competitions next season so she *SHOULDN'T* be considered any different than Anna because she too will be competing against Adelina for international assignments, but my guess is because she's younger and less established than Anna, she's not considered a real threat to Adelina whereas Anna might be (Anna beat Adelina at CoC last year, remember) so perhaps that's the reason Anna was turned down.

I wonder if Anna would ever go to Tutberize? She wouldn't have to switch rinks that way, which maybe that could be awkward with Tsaraeva but maybe not. Plus now that Serafima is gone Eteri might have space for her. And yes I know there is competition between Julia, Evgenia, and Anna, but it didn't prevent her from coaching Serafima last season so maybe it would work?

Anna's family is not wealthy, she mentioned in an interview, so I think she's pretty much restricted to Russia in terms of training, as I highly doubt the Russian Fed would pay for her to train in Canada. I also don't know if she speaks any English. I do agree Orser would be a good coach for her though. Are there any other viable coaching options in Moscow she could consider? Goncharenko mostly coaches younger kids with the exception of Radionova, right? I suppose there is Volchkova, but her students all seem to struggle in competition so not sure that would be the best move. Where is Sotskova's skating club located? Isn't she also from Moscow? Her coach seems kinda b*tchy too but maybe there are other coaches at her club? Also has Anna ever said anything bad about Tsaraeva outright? I mean, I know Tsaraeva comes off as very icy in the kiss n cry, but from what I can tell, Anna hasn't said anything bad about her ever...

Yeah sadly that is why i said, "if it was possible". Russian Fed wouldn't pay and they don't want their skaters to train abroad.
Anna never said negative things about Tsareva and I don't think she wants to leave because they are on bad terms. Whatever cold or b*tchy face she has, it doesn't mean anything about her coaching of Anna and how she supports her. I think the main problem is Tsareva is kind of a new coach. Anna is her 1st and only very good student, she doesn't have the experience of dealing with a world class athlete and she doesn't seem to find a way to help Anna with her mental struggles. In that sense, I don't think Volchkova is a good idea. She herself had huge troubles with that when she skated and her students are the same.

I hope if Adelina returns, she is fully healthy and brings great competitive spirit. I'll bet her time in the Ballroom Dance show/competition has served her well.

I agree about Volchkova, the one thing I will say is that I think she and Anna skate alike. Volchkova was a fast skater with powerful jumps and long limbs like Anna, in that sense, she may understand her jumping mechanics and whatnot. But from a psychological perspective I agree she is probably not the best choice. Maybe Anna will be okay continuing on with Tsaraeva. I feel like a lot of her struggles this season were probably due to her age, I mean, Julia had similar struggles (I know hers were partly physical in nature, but I feel a lot of the problem was mental too), and Adelina and Liza were probably at their most inconsistent during their 16-17 year old season (last season for Liza, 2012-2013 season for Adelina).

I think there is something to be said about being 15 (or younger) and fearless. You're new on the scene and don't have much to prove and your mentality is still almost childlike. But then I think physical changes are often accompanied by psychological changes. Not only is there the pressure to uphold the standard you set in previous seasons, but 16-17 is also the age when many teenagers become self-conscious (especially if there bodies are changing which is the case for most), have sulky attitudes, some even get rebellious, etc. The last couple years of high school are also the most rigorous and stressful, which is also bound to have an effect on athletes who attend a regular school like Anna. She had mentioned in her interviews that she studies a lot and doesn't always get a lot of sleep.

Anyways, I think her mentality should probably get better this upcoming season or the next as she gets more mature and sheds herself of the "teenage angst" that is so typical of kids her age. I think the same for Julia and Polina who are the same age. Similarly, girls like Radionova, Medvedeva, Sotskova, etc. may face psychological difficulties in the upcoming year or two as well. Everyone points to puberty and the years right after as being physically difficult for female skaters, but I actually think the psychological component is pretty substantial too. In fact, I feel like the struggles Adelina and Liza had over the last few years were primarily psychological and not physical, because we all knew they had no problems doing those jumps in practice. So I am hopeful that Anna, and Julia, can sort things out soon. They were such steely competitors just last season that I do think they have the grit and competitive mindset to be competitive, it may just take some time to get their confidence and security back.

She'd be foolish to badmouth her coach when they're still working together.

I, too, wouldn't jump on board and label Tsareva as a cold, terrible person just because of her K&C expressions. She just doesn't have enough experience dealing these situations, be it perfect skates in practice yet subpar competitions, or injuries and loss of confidence, ect.

The problem is, now that Anna has expressed a desire of leave, wouldn't staying with Tsareva be kinda... awkward? I'm not against her staying (especially since there aren't many other options), but now that they both know she tried to leave...

Would a coach really not take on a student because they have beaten 1 of that coach's current skaters, albeit their 'star' student? In a field as deep as the Russian ladies that seems a great way to make sure your coaching dies with the career of star student.

I actually read somewhere else that Buianova may have ended up with Proklova after unsuccessful attempt to poach Radionova. Maybe she turned Anna down because she still hopes to make her Radionova dreams come true and she wants to make sure she has room in her stable.

Taking on extra students is a good way of having your star student run away... see Orser, Yuna, Mao...

Buianova maybe tried to get Radionova a long time ago, but there's practically zero chance she's still trying to lure her... and it's more likely Proklova approached Buianova, not the other way around.

Eh but Orser didn't coach Mao. And Mao's mother was very ill by the time the rumor started I doubt that she'd want to train in Canada while her mother was fading away in Japan. If anything I'd say if they parted simply because of that rumor then it's kinda...stupid.

I feel bad for Anna. I hope some good coach will take her. She deserves that. :hopelessness:

And who is going to pay to Orser $100 an hour? Plus living expenses. Where they would get $10.000 a month? I don't think Russian skating federation willing to pay.
