Can we stop the talk about Jason and the quad and all about the discussions in the past? I like Jason as he is right now and there is no problem with him in my eyes. Just please let it go and enjoy him as he is right now, not as he was in the past or as he might be in the future.
And can we focus more on the current state of US men? I want to be updated about Max, Jeremy and others as well.

Sometimes discussions will drift towards a dominant topic. It's the nature of things. If you want to talk about the other guys, you're welcome to shift the discussion.
And I will now: Nathan Chen debuted internationally at JGP Croatia.
He scored 208.16 and finished second behind Shoma Umo. Chen said he plans to debut as a senior at the national level and that his team purposely decided to only do one JGP so he could focus on his transition into seniors. I have a feeling that means he will competing at sectionals as a senior.
He might have seen this as a better move than doing 2 JGP and JGPF then having to shift gears to seniors at U.S. Nationals the following month. I know that Jason had mentioned that it's tough to go back and forth between junior and senior programs, so this seems like a wise move.
I remember one season (2013, I think?) Yasmin Siraj gave up doing a second JGP so she could put her focus on nationals prep, so this isn't an unprecedented move by any means.

^I was impressed by Chen as well. He reminds me of Pchiddy when young. I think he might do very well in National as a senior. But does that mean he will not complete as a junior next year? I think he should stay in junior for at least one more season until his height is stable, as well as his injury.

That's one heck of an argument you got there. My memory is pretty bad, too, so I win all arguments. (At least, that's what I remember.) I don't know what this quad discussion is all about anyway. To me it is obvious that a skater can win something without a quad if he does everything else well. It is equally obvious that if a guy does have a quad, that's a lot of points right up front. Let the games begin. :yes:

Their "Men's FS Highlights" video from 2013 Nationals is also laughably bad. It's basically Jeremy, Adam, Ross, Wesley Campbell, and Keegan Messing, with a dash of Max (who won!) and basically no-one else.

Thanks for the video! It's very interesting watching. You know someone hits a jump consistently when you're surprised that he falls on it - the quad Sal fall took me quite by surprise! IMO, this music was WAY too slow for Max - if they wanted Tosca, perhaps Marton's "Tosca Fantasy" arrangement might be better.

I didn't say I win the argument. I thought my sarcasm was clear about using the word argument obviously it should have been "argument" because the whole thing was wrong. My memory of her post was wrong. The whole thing is over. My original comment was wrong! People say should apologize to mrs p and I do because the characterization of her comment was wrong. I remembered fantastic as fantastical. I lose the argument and was wrong about her being an extreme doubter of brown in the top 10. I really thing too much was made of this! No one has ever remembered an opinion wrong before? Lol.
Done! I address this in the post above. Did it publically so everyone knows there is an apology out there.

? That "trend" ended with Lysacek. The period when it was possible to win a men's championship with no quad lasted three years, from Buttle in 2008 to Lysacek in 2010. After 2010 the ISU tweaked the rules a little and now you have your wish -- all the top medal contenders present quads, quad combos, and triple Axels galore.
Yep, we've got plenty of quads. And very few inspiring, clean programs. So many people griped about Evan's quadless Olympic win, but that skate was sooo much better than what we saw in Sochi.
I haven't rewatched any of the Sochi men's free skates since the competition. Once was enough.
I rewatched Evan's 2010 performances once. They were just as uninspiring the second time around.
Quadless programs aren't necessarily clean (or inspiring). Quad programs aren't necessarily fall-happy. I don't understand this either/or mentality. There have been many solid performances, with quads (lots of them from 2007 and earlier, but we got more in 2014 Worlds).

Let's just think that Sochi was a bad hair day for all top men. Maybe the ice quality was not good, maybe their neves were not good (but why all the poor performances in one event). And their condition had gotten much better in Saitama. I agree with you, we shouldn't blame the quad this time.

i agree with this. I think Evan rightfully won the Olympics though Daisuke's FS was much more memorable for me even with the botched flip. I do think Evan did rise to the occasion.
Your point, Sandpiper is a key point. I know there's a lot of comparisons between Evan and Jason because of the no-quad thing (and also further more both are from the Chicago area), but ultimately they are still two different skaters with different programs.
Yuzuru's SP at GPF and Olympics (and in general) was a great SP with a quad while Patrick's FS from TEB was a great FS with two quads. Someone like Jason doesn't have a chance if all the skaters had those kind of programs.
And yes, there's been plenty of boring quadless programs too.
No, it wouldn't have been better and I did not mean to imply that at this particular competition Jason should not have won. I just don't want that kind of skate winning a gold to become commonplace and I feel sure it won't.
Jason and his team can dawdle with technical advancement if they wish, but I don't think that will be to Jason's advantage. Lest I am being misunderstood, I very much enjoy Jason's skating, but if he continues to lag technically he will be left behind competitively. He not only has to deal with his current competitors, but the promising ones that are on the horizon that he will be in competition with in 2018 and earlier. I suspect a coaching change might take place in the not too distant future.
