I thought Summer had it in the 800m but she faded at the end. I think she started her sprint too early as she turned 1st at the 700m mark. Congrats to Ledecky and Pallister. Summer ended up in third place.

Summer McIntosh versus Katie Ledecky versus Lani Pallister was one of the greatest races I've ever seen, really really high high octane and very close results.

The 800-metre freestyle was an incredible duel, but Ledecky held and McIntosh faded at the end to take bronze. Five gold medals will have to wait.

Summer came back strong in the 400m IM with a gold, 7 seconds ahead (that's a huge lead) of the next two women (they tied for silver).
In the race, Yu Zidi, 12 year old Chinese swimmer finished 4th, very close to the podium... She was a bit off her own world record but still managed a championship record. 400m IM is a beast. Never competed it... beyond my ability (I did swim 200m IM a lot but never managed to get better enough at backstroke to even remotely consider doing 400m IM)... So to me, that's the most impressive race of the championships... 400m IM goes fast enough but requires also the endurance and the versatility . Summer rocks !

I have been amazed at Summer since her arrival on the scene at Tokyo games as a very young athlete but 12 years old is crazy stuff for the Chinese girl. It will be fascinating to see if a rivalry develops when Yu reaches maturity (young adult body will give her much more strength )
