Tatsuki Machida

Akiko Suzuki and Nobunari Oda were on a variety show today and they talked a bit about Mao in the first half of the program. In the second half they asked Akiko to name one unforgettable program and she said Tatsuki's East Of Eden was unforgettable to her. They showed his performance in Sochi and then talked a bit about his motto behind the program "timshel".

Nobu was once again asked to do the opening pose of East of Eden (he mentioned he loves it) and he performed it while Akiko was singing the song.

This Japanese twitter user had the surprise of her life today when she went to the DyDo Drinco Ice Arena in Tokyo and found Tatsuki practicing there. Luckily she captured a few seconds on video so we can see a glimpse of him on ice again. He looks like he's practicing a program (maybe choreographing a new one?) because he's listening to something in his earphones.

His hair looks even longer than it was.[/QUOTE

I wonder if he was practicing for Daisuke's Kobe Charity ice show. If not, it's just nice to hear that he's still skating. I will miss not seeing him at the Worlds this year.

His name isn't mentioned in the cast of Dai's show, he's probably just practicing to stay in shape for the shows he's doing in April.

If I recall correctly, March 20 is Tatsuki's graduation day, so I guess we can see some photos and video clips of him or the ceremony by his fans or the media? :cheer:

I just hope that Tatsuki would not wear the ugly grey and too businessman-like suits that we've seen on many occasions before...just for the diversity sake.

I'm sure he will be very happy with the graduation since it took more time than he might have planned.

About that, it's been announced that Tatsuki won't be attending his graduation ceremony tomorrow.

:hopelessness: What? Do you know why he decided not to do that?

Kansai University didn't mention any reasons, they only announced his absence. Maybe because he already moved to Tokyo and is busy there? Nobunari Oda is expected to attend and he will stay at the same university to start grad school, while Daisuke Takahashi will be leaving to study in the US.

This is unexpected for me. Generally, a graduation ceremony is not only meaningful to students about to farewell their college period and to start a new life, but also their parents and family who support them to be there. Besides, he had trained at the university rink for the undergraduate period except his training in the United States for 2 years, so I thought he might have a special feeling about the school. Tatuski is an enigmatic person for sure, but since Tatsuki showed his gratitude to his teachers and choreographers on many occasions, I would like to think that Tatsuki is more like a person willing to go forward, not looking back his past. Anyway, we will lose one chance to see him in public until the planed ice show in April, so that news is sorry for me. I didn't know that Oda and Takahashi, both of which seem to be much older than Tatsuki are graduating this month.

It just once again proves that whenever we think we might have deciphered him just a bit, he shows that he is as unpredictable as ever. I can't imagine what could be so urgent or important for him to not attend his own graduation ceremony but by now I'm just taking the news as it is. I was looking forward to seeing him on this special occasion but it looks like we'll have to wait for another month.

I am also disappointed in not seeing pictures and videos of Tatsuki at his graduation as I was able with Mao. Graduations are a big deal for us Filipinos, and I think nearly everyone else. I remember how members of my family took a four hour flight for my graduation last year with video camera and tripod to boot to make sure everything is documented for other members of the family who were not able to attend. But returning to Tatsuki, while he may have his reasons for not attending his Kansai graduation, I hope things will be different when he finishes his masters.

Yes, I thought he might attend the ceremony, considering how proud the day will be for his devoted mother and the school. Since the three famous skaters having made their own fame will be graduating at once, the ceremony would be a great opportunity to advertise the school image to the public, so the media would flock to the place where the ceremony will held. Perhaps, Tatsuki doesn't want to get such public attention after the retirement? I doubt that though because his job's nature is strongly related to the media attention.

Sooner or later he's still going to face the media and he's also going to face some questions at the press conference for Prince Ice World. Tatsuki used to keep a close bond with his fans and wrote updates on his whereabouts, first on his blog and then on his facebook account. I still remember the day he invited his fans to add him on facebook, how times have changed. I don't blame him for wanting privacy though, no doubt he's still adjusting to the drastic changes in his life.

To brighten the thread a bit, I will share an anecdote a Japanese fan shared on twitter today.

She recalls how one time during Prince Ice World 2014 a beautiful woman bluntly asked Tatsuki "would you go out with me?" to which he replied with an equally blunt (and brutal) "no". Fans were discussing this incident on twitter and were amused at his not so gracious response to a very unexpected and bold question.

The last two seasons could be overwhelming for him given his previous seasons with less the media attention, so I understand his preference to be seclusive.
However, I would much prefer to see him in the suits that I ungratefully grumbled than not to see him at all. :hopelessness: We could've talked a lot about his recent hair, clothing, speech, smiles, and lots of flowers and his family etc.

The small episode is entertaining and cute. I think Tatuski was just embarrassed by the sudden proposal of date from his beautiful fan, so his instant response is understandable.

As someone who missed her own graduation ceremony, I have no right (or wish) to criticize Tatsuki. :slink:

It's mostly been a tradition for Team Japan to show up at their universities for any kind of ceremony or event and we also last saw him attending some meetings at Kansai in January so his absence at what's probably the most important event of his student life was a bit surprising.

He's also closing the door to what's been 7 years of "Tatsuki Machida from the Kansai University Skating Club" announcements at the Japanese Nationals.

Thanks for this, ioanap. It made me smile. So brave of the woman to ask him out and so typical of him to be brutally honest. Thanks also for letting me know he won't be skating in Daisuke's Kobe Charity ice show. I wasn't aware the cast had been posted.

I hope the "brutal" rejection was not because Tatsuki thought it is the man's prerogative to ask for a date. Actually, I was of the impression that while Tatsuki can be unsparing as to himself, he is gentle with others. Now I am imagining how he would be as a professor when a student gives him the wrong answer.

He didn't attend the ceremony today but either way congratulations for your graduation Tatsuki!

Here's a lovely fan art of what would have been the 3 Kansai students Tatsuki, Nobu and Dai at their graduation ceremony. :)

Thanks ionap for sharing. All three have given so much joy to me and many others through their skating. And yes, even if I was disappointed that Tatsuki chose not to attend his graduation ceremony, it was remiss of me not to congratulate him. Congratulations Tatsuki! So proud of you! :cheer:

The fan art depicting the three skaters is cute. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I also congratulate Tatsuki's graduation and his new life as a grad student in Tokyo.
