The Judging Controversy Thread

but you were talking about the ESPN online poll and you used that as an opinion poll for American, right? "Tons of articles" from UK or France, unfortunately they are completely irrelevant here.

No. Heavily skewed? haha. Google ladies figure skating.
tons of articles from Canada, UK, France, Austrailia, Germany saying YuNa should have won.

wow. It's like google and its algorithms are in denial. Yuna's name is currently also written as Yuna Queen.

Its really strange. lol

type YuNa kim as German, Protugal.

YuNa Queen.

Google has some YuNa fans?? (:

This. And, Tarasova had no compliments for Yu-Na's transitions in Vancouver when she defeated Mao. She just supported her own skater.

I really wonder if any high profile Russian can actually voice at least some suspicion/doubt cause regardless of supporting your team, those results were fishy from a mile away... I guess they all want to keep working so they have to shut up basically.

Poor Adelina is a victim in this too. She should have been elated with a bronze medal. Instead she'll get vitriol and a bad wrap for being crowned the champion. A sad day.

This is not funny anymore. People are posting hateful messages on her instagram. She doesn't deserve this:no:

I don't agree with hateful messages at all.

But come on, the medals thing is a little funny.

The score gap between Yuna and Adelinna sotinokova is around 5 points. And Russians say this is because sotinokova has jumped one more triple jump.
But though Yuna has jumped one less triple jump, she did one more double jump. which means the total number of jumps is just the SAME.
Yuna jumped 6 triple +5 double while sotinokova jumped 7triple + 4 double.

The score gap between triple and double is just 2 points.

This fact shows if that was the main reason to have the score gap it should be more or less around 2points instead of 5 points. and aside from that, we all know she has one double jump mistake in free program. this means there must not be any score gap between Yuna and sotinokova.

Therefore Sotinokova score gap argument connecting to number of triple jump is nonsense

YuNa
3Lz+3T 10.10
3F 5.30
2A 3.63 x

3Lz+3T 10.10
3F 5.30
3S+2T 5.50
3Lz 6.60
2A+2T+2Lo 7.04
3S 4.62 x
2A 3.63 x
Total 61.84

Sotnikova
3T+3T 8.20
3F 5.30
2A 3.63 x

3Lz+3T 10.10 (Wrong edge. should get -GOE -1~-2 but Judges gave +GOE.)
3F 5.30
3Lo 5.10
2A+3T 8.14 x
3F+2T+2Lo 9.24 x
3S 4.62 x
2A 3.63 x
Total 63.26

the difference is only 1.42 point.
Their PCS is almost same in both SP and FP.
YuNa's step sequence got level 3 in SP and FP and Adelina got level 4 and 1.7 GOE.
This is fixed from the beginnig.YuNa was robbed of gold medal.

well, a lot of American think YuNa should have won.

ESPN POLL STATE.

As an American, with American friends, I would like to bring this up---none of my co-workers are interested in figure skating--they just don't like it. However, because of all the headlines, they automatically assume that the "Russians cheated". Mind you, they didn't even watch any of the programs; yet, they decided the Russians were all at fault. Yes, the "evil Russians". That's how ignorant some are regarding their "opinions" on this.

I would like to say there isn't even a general consensus on which skater had the best freeskate or best overall performances from fans on skating forums I think this means the results are debatable/highly contested, rather than some high level of conspiracy.

Funny, most of my American co-workers are interested in figure skating. Maybe it is because they grew watching Michelle Kwan. They watched NBC's primetime coverage and said it was awful. Well, the bottom line is that you committed an anecdotal fallacy.

I disagree. I thought Mao completely outskated Adelina but was not duly awarded for it.

I thought she did too. I meant opinions are divided as to which skater had the best free skate. Some say Mao, others Kim or Caro. And as for who was the overall winner, there are people making a defense for each of the three medalists.

So if it is debatable whoshould have won of the three medallists that wold sggest it is in the range that Adelina won. That being said people we need to stop getting too serious. First, we all have opinions and biases. Second, we aren't the judges - thankfull considering thelogic and what is being said in these threads. Third we are killing the sport we love.
