Hey there , i dont know if there is a thread like that anywhere else in this forum , but after watching todays ladies free skate junior in Saransk and after the previous jgp in Yokohama in Japan i got really REALLY frustrated. We have here a russian sweep in the podium while all the three ladies didnt skate well in the free programm. Of course , Polina had the 10+ points more so it is fair to be first. But Konstatinova 110 ???? REALLY ? with 2 falls and so many other problems ? Or Nugumanova with so many URs ? Yuna deserved to be on the podium , she was almost clean and should have get better PCS. The same thing with Samudorova back in Japan who was stolen a medal because then we had a japan sweep. I dont know . This seems ridiculous to me. This is sport. Not politics. Once people understand how unfair the judging has become , i believee that their absence will bring changes in the judging! I am waiting for your responses. Thank you .

I guess its was a federation message, Samodurova out of medals ? fine Shiraiwa is out of medals too.... :slink:

And here we go again......Just bc you don't like a result it doesn't mean that the judges are wrong :palmf:

Sofia was definitely robbed at Yokohama: she skates two clean programs and finished 4th overall, even though her programs were more difficult even with downgraded everything (spins, steps sequence... they tried so hard to justify her 4th placement)

Here in Saransk if you check the protocols, Stanislava got lower GOEs than Yuna, honesty they could have placed Stanislava 4th in the LP but 3rd overall (considering her huge margin in the SP) and it would have been a fair score.

I don't see the unfairness that clear at JGP Russia, but i agree on the rest, politics must go.

I really hope you are wrong about this. I hate to think that judges would stoop to this level. Skaters aren't pawns to be moved around so federations can send a "message".

I dont think it is about we dont like the final statements , but seeing the protocols and watching the performances someone can easily understand that nugumanova and konstantinova were overscored. Nugumanova had so little choreo , how such high pcs in just her debut where judges are supposed to be conservative ? They are little girls , they cannot just being judged in this way , only for Federation send a message. Hope in the worlds will be fair .

Wouldn't be simple and direct to talk to the girls than to go through the troubles of maneuvering international judges just to send a message to your own young skaters?

Don't raise the bridge; lower the river.

eta: I think you meant a federation message to another federation? Too cruel to the pawns, likely treasured stars in the future if they are not damaged.

Yeah. There was no choreo between the jumps , poor transitions. Only choreo with step sequences at the end. Other girls with more artstry were judged so strictly this nigh for Nugumanova to just take so much PCS score with mediocre choreography. IMO of course.

Poor transitions i don't know but best skating skills on this field for sure, even better than Polina in my opinion.

Are you a professional judge? You know, not the judges are the problem, but people who judge and think they know it better..... That's the only problem in this sport :confused2:

Maybe not 99% of threads but I'd agree if you amend your post to 99% of posts are about this. It really is funny isn't it.

No , i am not a professional judge as i wasnt in the 2014 Olympics with Adelina 1st or in the Worlds 2016 placing Gold first with such high score. I dont mean to open again this ambiguous theme about either OG 2014 or Worlds 2016 , but there are some things that someone , even not a judge , can mention .

Can you be more specific? Maybe discuss a few of the actual elements and moments in the program to show what you mean by artistry.

Here for example I discussed why I thought Yuna's SP was so underwhelming and frankly a bit overscored in PCS. It's fine if others disagree, in fact it's natural but threads like this won't work if you just use words like better artistry. He is my breakdown of Yuna's SP and my critiques of that program.

Here's my take.

Jeffrey Buttle did not give her one of his best programs. The first part starts off well enough and even with a little lack of charisma it isn't boring by any means to my taste. Some nice little arm flaires and the leg kick right before the 3-3 are kinda fun. What bugs me about this program though is the decision they've made with these two back to back spins.

https://youtu.be/7mzUsUoBWtg?t=1m11s

The layback is nice and is executed pretty well and most importantly for me it leads up to a dramatic change in music but when the bebop and scatting begin and really pick things up musically she goes into this camel spin. I wish this would be a StSeq that interjects character, rhythm, and or excitement instead of her doing donut positions and catch foots which seem out of step with the music. Then when she exits the spin and starts stroking it's like she's still going the same speed as she was before the music picked up. I don't understand why she doesn't skate bigger once that music changes and it highlights what I find to be her biggest weakness....lack of charisma and or character. This contrast of exciting music and underwhelming performing really sort of continues the rest of the program because her steps and general choreography in this particular competition are a bit labored or just lack any real charm.

This worked for her last year when her music was soft and not as dynamic. I think the goal for her team was to attempt to show a different side to her...they all do this....but I think this music swallows her up. I think she got a very generous score TBH and looking at some of those PCS marks I think they went a bit high because I'd score her in the 6.50 range for everything. Her SS and CH though would take a hit from me and be no higher than 6.00

These numbers are useless though because 7's and 8's mean nothing by themselves. My 7 might be your 8. That's fine and if the relation of those numbers works out fairly across the board to all skaters it's nothing abnormal in my opinion.

I really thought her 3lo was stellar and the GOE given on that was stingy. Did I miss something? Her other jumps weren't anything special but I must admit I'm glad she changed the dramatic arm swing and turn she did after nearly every jump last year.

Thoughts?

I think this thread topic is an earnest question. I, for one, have often raised eyebrows at scores. While I do not portend to be able to do a judges' job, I really do want to understand why I'm often surprised at scores and whether I'm justified to feel that way.

However, I take your point that having a judge, or someone in the know, will help this discussion much more than a bunch of blind leading the blind. I really hope this forum isn't just the latter case.
