V&M Free Dance music this year

Well your a delobel and shoenfelder fan, so your opinion is a little biased anyway this program looks alot more difficult than the french whose program is frankly boring, i think V&M will win their first world title this year. The lifts are awesome all the changes in variation are much more difficult than the overrated french.

Well you're obviously a Virtue/Moir fan, so you are biased as well.

I like both programs (am waiting for V/M's performance at Nationals to get a better idea of it) but DelSchoes have it over Virtue/Moir in terms of emotion. Don't get me wrong I like Virtue/Moir's version, but I think DelSchoes version is more meaningful.

Ok, all of you V/M fans, just stop all the insulting because it's getting really crazy and mean here. First of all, it's clear which is the more overrated team: V and M.
:)
Second of all, we're not trying to say who's better than who all the time, but in terms of spontaneity and genuine expression I can't see why people disagree who the winner is here. V/M are excellent technicians and they emote pretty well for people their age, but you're not giving D/S enough credit if you fail to see that in terms of expression they're the undisputed #1.
I guess the reason why the French are discussed in this thread in the first place (while the name of the thread suggests it should be all about Virtue and Moir), is the 'stolen' FD music. The topic starter (unintentionally) invited ubers of the 2 teams to cat fight over this.

To me, the problem with the French is that he barely looks at her when they dance. There is very little eye contact going on. It must feel very uncomfortable (and irritating) to dance with a partner who shows so little interest. He usually looks over her head. It works, as long as they do something entertaining or abstract, but doesn't when they start acting passion. That's why their OD doesn't make much sense. BTW, he makes little eye contact when they are in the K&C as well.

The French are, IMO, as experienced as they are, excellent technicians, I can see it, I appreciate them for that. But as an ice dancing fan, sometimes I want to see something beyond perfect deep edges and complex lifts. That's why I prefer Virtue and Moir. There is a chance the judges will prefer them too.

That is also partly why I'm so dismayed that V/M chose to skate to the same music, while knowing that song meant so much to the other team. Yes, they announced their choice as Pink Floyd before the season started, but did they say it was The Great Gig in the Sky? No, not a word of it. for some reason they chose not to announce it, and I must say that was deceitful on their part. I think their team saw that having the same music as D/S puts them at a great advantage, because by comparing each move they can choose to make their corresponding ones more technically difficult, which is what they seem to have done looking at the clips. Yes, the spins are interesting and so are the lifts, but it strikes me as though they're trying too hard to be innovative, in order to one-up themselves as well as the other teams.

But to me, and I think to those with discerning eyes, their program doesn't carry the same sincerity and fluidity as D/S program. I urge everyone to watch their GPF performance; for me, that's when everything made sense. It was such a hard sell for D/S, trying to make their audience see its beauty, and now that they have done just that and worked so hard to pave the way, for V/M to come along and take advantage of it like that (whether they intended to or not, but they sure have found themselves in a position to do just that), how could we not be dismayed that they didn't choose a different song during their long period of downtime? I can't help but call that lazy , and a bit unprofessional.

Everyone was crying for V/M to do something "unromantic" this year and they have challenged themselves with some very interesting choreography, lines, and movement. Calling Virtue and Moir deceitful, lazy and unprofessional is harsh and unwaranted in my opinion. The program is expected to be a little rough around the edges due to the long absense from the ice and not having the training time that D/S and the other teams have had. I believe this program will be stunning as the season progresses!

So agree. It is always diffrent on competition ice, with costumes and all...I can't wait to see it.

BTW, I agree with the lack of connection 'Hsuhs'" mentioned. They do not seem like a real couple...just two skaters. I see nothing special in thier program this season at all.. last season I loved the music and thought that the concept was good...but did not love the finished product. They seem a little rough around the edges for a couple with so many years together.

Didn't want to spark off a D&S and V&M fan war.

I like V&M, I just can't get behind the program, and obviously it's going to be the other way around for others. I think the stealing accusations are just lame and pointless. There are coincidences. Maybe both teams saw this.

Besides in a few months they'll both will lose to DomShabs at worlds and we can be all pissed together.

Oh thank you for opening this topic. I didn't know nor hear of this at all. I think it can be a huge disadvantage for them as Dels/Sch showed it all season with huge scores. Though Virtue/Moir are very talented, it is somehow risky to dance to the same music of the reigning world champs, plus they didn't compete in the Gp season. I think I never liked a Del/Sch FD as I do this year (actually I'm not a fan of the french), and I also think this music suits better to a mature couple. They're young and fresh and there are other styles that can suit them better.

this situation is perfectly comparable to the cliché situation of a younger sibling imitating the older's clothing and/or actions....HAHAHAHA

I dont have any problem with V/M having the same song. It can be just interesting to see top two pairs dancing to the same music, yet giving so different interpretation. It is better to find positive things around it than starting with negativity. Come on, it can be so exciting!
And the 'robbery' theories are just insane! Why D/S are more entitled to this music than V/M? Just because they skated in GP? Or because the music means much to them? How can you know that it does not mean much to V/M as well?

I definitely did not intend to start such a fight when I started this thread. I think both teams are wonderful, and enjoy both interpretations. Choosing the same music happens sometimes (although it seems more likely with classical selections).

I wish them both speedy recoveries and hope both do well at Worlds.

Somewhat off-topic, I always regret we never got to see the clash of the Carmina Buranas. When A&P skated it in 2000, the then-reigning world champs, K&O, had also chosen the music. Their (eligible) career ending injury kept the battle from ever taking place. A&P were always my favourites, but I would've liked to see the dueling Carminas. I guess I enjoy a good on-ice battle!

The judges seem to be loving DelSchoes this season though. They may just defend their title.

I hope none of the top teams use the same music next season though. There's obviously going to be The Battle of the ''Pink Floyds'' at worlds this year.

Obviously, I'm not literally saying that they stole. It's just a way of expression I used. Who knows what happened? However, I'm highly, highly annoyed by the fact that they were so tight-lipped about it, and combined with the fact that they had had the time and chance to change it (maybe not chuck the whole thing, but maybe they could have incorporated another song so that their program wasn't so heavily "TGGITS", that's what led me to think the worst. Why couldn't they just say straight up that they were using The Great Gig in the Sky? After all, the "Money" part at the end is very minimal, probably just under a minute. It's strange why they couldn't be more honest about it.

Or because the music means much to them? How can you know that it does not mean much to V/M as well?

You cannot know, but you can feel.
As I said, I never really liked del/sch, actually I can say I almost couldn't stand them last year. On the contrary, I always found v/m lovely.

But there's something in del/sch's free dance this year that just catches my attention, the dress, the lightness of Isabelle but her being powerful at the same time..I also feel this music suits to a "crowning achievement "at the end of a career..
Well it's all just about feelings and emotions, of course everyone's free to dance to whatever he likes, and V/M are able to dance on pretty much everything and be superb anyway , I just wanted to explain why I feel del/sch' dance more, and I guess I could not explain wery well because of my bad english :P

^^ Oh, I definitely agree about the greatness of Del/Sch dance. You explained yourself very well and I feel the same about it.
Quite frankly, I have not checked the links for V/M program, because I want to see it during the real competition, with a good camera capture, proper light, etc.
Lets not forget, that we have seen Del/Sch program three times this year, and most of us did not like it at SA. It started growing on many fans with the 2nd/3rd performance. So lets wait until V/M polish their program too and then we can see whether the music means a lot for them too.
Any way, my major point is that it is interesting to have 'the battle' of the music and I cannot see anything inapropriate about it. I am sure it will be a great spectacle. And I can bet the interpretation from both teams will be very very different, yet fantastic. And that is what is so interesting about figure skating.
So, I encourage everyone to skip the negativity about V/M music :)

Why does it matter so much? V/M (and any other skater for that matter) have no obligation to anyone to reveal their music selections. With Tessa's surgery they have limited time to train and get comfortable with the program they already had, so adding more stress by changing the music and program is extremely unrealistic. If anything, it adds to the excitement when these two teams meet head to head. Seeing two different interpretations and performances will be great!

This whole post is ridiculous. V&M would not have had any time to change anything given the fact that Tessa was sitting at home in London, Ontario for over two months. Plus, they are not the only team to be tight-lipped about music. It was Davis & White whose music was kept so secret - they were the last team of all the top teams to announce their music.

Also, V&M reportedly choreographed this FD back in April and May so they didn't steal anything from anybody.

V&M are not obligated to tell anyone anything about their music choices or training habits.

This is one of the weirdest posts I've read in a long time. Where are all these assumptions coming from?

1) The D/S program wasn't a hard sell -- lots of members of the audience, including myself, loved the D/S program right away. It sounds like it was a hard sell *for you*, and you're projecting to everyone else.

2) How are V/M taking advantage of anything?? If anything, they're at a distinct disadvantage, as D/S already have a beautiful program to this music. Plus, V/M haven't competed yet at all. They could be dumped for the approach they are taking. Why are you so insecure about D/S?

3) How on earth are V/M lazy and unprofessional? They picked a piece of music and choreographed to it, and it turns out someone else picked the same music. So what? It's not like D/S owns the music. Let the best man win -- that's what sport is all about. If D/S can't handle that, they should have retired. It seems that they are confident in themselves, which is why they decided to continue to compete. I don't know why you don't have the same confidence in a team you supposedly love. Or maybe it's just that you like to bash V/M.

Regarding "hard sell" you can see on the SA thread just how many people were expressing their displeasure with the program. Yes, maybe it was a hard sell for me too. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't understand it. Even at the very first event of the year ( a French one) it was said about how the audience was lukewarm in their response compared to Pechalat and Bourzat's program.

And regarding calling V/M lazy and unprofessional, I do admit that it may not have been as easy as said to change the program, but I was just so surprised, and shocked to discover that more than practically their entire program was The Great Gig in the Sky, when they had only said the whole time it was a "selection" from pink floyd. But I do understand now this little fact is something no one would be shocked and disappointed about unless you are a D/S fan I think, and I do understand there aren't as many of us out there as there are for V/M. In my opinion, I think they should have made a mention of using the song at least. I just don't understand why they didn't.

Who told you D.& S. picked this music first? Why the name calling {unprofessional and lazy} V. & M. do not have to explain anything to anybody.

In my opinion any of these two couples would not use this music if they would know that the other one will use it. But I admit that this is a strange situation because this music is really unusual. And after reading about all this in some places I think that Tessa & Scott could be the one who had this music first. And if is's true and if Isa & Olivier would know about it, they would never use the same one because they are the most original couple ever and always chose something different. And as they have received this music from Dubreuil & Lauzon I'm just wondering if Dubreuil & Lauzon giving them it have known Tessa & Scott will use the same...

I really don't like this situation and I think both couples don't like it too. They just should do what they want to do and the same music doesn't mean that interpretation will be the same too. I see both couples have different vision of their programs and it's good but don't like that some things in composition I find similar or comparable. I'll wait to see Tessa & Scott FD on Nationals and really hope that it will be something more different.

Yes, I admit I'm big fan of Isabelle & Olivier and I love their FD as I love all what they do because none of the others touch me so much as they do, because their programs I feel deep inside my heart but I think I don't have nothing against Tessa & Scott ;)
