Vayana HRISTOVA (Bulgarian: Ваяна ХРИСТОВА) is a Women’s Singles skater who represents Bulgaria. She was born on 3rd December 2010 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is the 2023 Sofia Trophy Basic Novice I Women’s Champion; the 2023 Bellu Memorial Basic Novice I Women’s Champion; the 2023 Narcissa Cup Basic Novice I Women’s Champion; the 2020 and 2021 Priz Victoria Cubs B Women’s Champion; the 2018 Skate Helena Chicks II Women’s Champion; and the 2018 Skate Celje Chicks II Women’s Champion.

Vayana started competing in Pairs skating in the 2025–26 Season.

I hope she has an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for her, both on and off the ice.

As you have probably worked out by the fact that you are reading this, since Vayana is now 13, she is able to join older sister Chiara in having a Fan Fest thread.

I still haven't found out where exactly Vayana was born, but I suspect that, like Chiara, it was in Sofia.

Anyway, I hope she has a good birthday.

And I hope it is not long until we see her (and Chiara, since they tend to compete at the same events) in action again.

The Hristova sisters will be having their first competitive action of 2024 this week at Skate Helena in Belgrade, Serbia. And since Vayana has now turned 13, I am going to start doing posts for her as well as Chiara.

The Advanced Novice Ladies SP is due to start today at 15:09:00 CET (14:09:00 GMT / 16:09:00 EET). So 8 hours from now.

Vayana will be the 10th skater to start. So, third skater to go in Group 2.

And that is as much as I can tell you, because the Time Schedule PDF's don't work.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Vayana finished 7th out of 19 in the FS, with a score of 50.70. This meant that climbed to 10th position overall, with a score of 78.55.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch Skate Helena.

Vayana finished the Free Skate 1.50 points behind 6th position, Liana SMREKAR (SVN), and 0.44 points ahead of 8th position, Audrey MONTIEL (FRA). All three of them are part of a larger group where 9 skaters are covered by 5.43 points, stretching from Tara PLAHUTAR (HRV) in 5th position, 2.85 points ahead of Vayana, to Brigitta Eva INCZE (HUN) in 13th position, 2.58 points behind Vayana.

Overall, Vayana finished 0.91 points behind 9th position, Neza Rikke RUTAR (SVN), and 1.32 points ahead of 11th position, Plahutar. For the fourth time this season (after the Priz Victoria, the Denkova-Staviski Cup, and the Bulgarian Championships), the Hristova sisters will be competing at their home rink, the Winter Sports Palace, this week. This time it is for the Sofia Trophy. Although Chiara won't be in action until Friday, Vayana will be starting her campaign today.

The Advanced Novice Ladies SP is due to start this evening at 19:00:00 EET (17:00:00 GMT / 20:00:00 MSK). So 10 hours from now.

Vayana will be the 26th skater to start. So, firstskater to go in Group 4 (and first skater to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 4 Warm-Up is due to start at 21:10:00 EET (19:10:00 GMT / 22:10:00 MSK). So 12h 10m from now.

Vayana finished 10th out of 39 in the SP, with a score of 31.31.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Sofia Trophy.

Vayana is currently 0.53 points behind 9th position, Neza Rikke RUTAR (SVN), and 0.48 points ahead of 11th position, Oleksandra DELIAMURE (UKR). All three of them are part of a group where 32 skaters are covered by 12.12 points, stretching from Mila BERTSCH (FRA) in 8th position, 1.17 points ahead of Vayana, to Anastasia FREIFELD (ISR) in 39th position, 10.95 points behind Varvara.

When you have such a large proportion of the field that close together, absolutely anything can happen. So, Vayana will need to put in a good Free Skate to make sure that she improves or maintains her position, and doesn't drop any positions.

Vayana finished 12th out of 39 in the FS, with a score of 57.91. This meant that she remained in 10th position overall, with a score of 89.22.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Sofia Trophy.

Vayana finished the Free Skate 0.26 points behind 11th position, Oleksandra DELIAMURE (UKR), and 0.63 points ahead of 13th position, Zoe MOSCA BARBERIS (ITA). All three of them are part of a group where 8 skaters are covered by 4.67 points, stretching from Shylina RENAUD (FRA) in 8th position, 1.99 points ahead of Vayana, to Neza Rikke RUTAR (SVN) in 15th position, 2.68 points behind Varvara.

Overall, Vayana finished 2.03 points behind 9th position, Milena VELCHEVA (BUL), and 0.22 points ahead of 11th position, Deliamure. Vayana is at the head of a group of 8 skaters covered by 2.15 points, which stretches down to Rutar tin 13th position.

Vayana finished 5th out of 15 in the SP, with a score of 32.80.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

Quick turnaround, as my second kid is doing her Warm-Up straight after Varvara gets her scores.

Unfortunately, with finishing off my post about Varvara, I didn't get to see much of the Warm-Up.

But, with not seeing Vayana much this season, I can't remember what her costume looks like. So, it would have been hard to spot her anyway.

I hope it went well for her. And that her programme does too!

And the individual jump and then spin were lovely too.

Oooh. I liked the pose she went into at the end of the next jump.

Lovely spin, and then a little hop at the end. Not sure how it will go down.

Not sure the reason for the kicks at the end of the Step Sequence. They looked out of place.

By, my goodness, what a performance. She was really selling it!

I wouldn't be surprised if she took the lead.

What?! 4th position?! Nearly 10 points behind the leader?!

No. I thought it was worth a lot more than that.

Vayana is currently 0.80 points behind 4th position, Milena VELCHEVA (BUL), and 1.48 points ahead of 6th position, Gergana YORDANOVA (BUL). All three of them are part of a group of 4 skaters covered by 2.81 points, which is headed by Eloisa MERINO-SOLA (GBR) in 3rd position, 1.33 points ahead of Vayana.

Vayana is in a very good position here to challenge for that final podium position (the Top 2 are too far out in front). And also to claim the honour of being the top Bulgarian.

So let's hope she has a good Free Skate, and does those things!

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

Right, this is a headache. Two kids in the same Warm-Up group. How do I keep track of both of them?!

Varvara was easy to spot today again because, although there was another skater wearing a white jacket, they are significantly different enough to tell apart.

But, I needn't have worried about keeping track of my kids. We didn't see a single element within camera shot from any of the skaters! We just saw them going across from one side of the camera shot to the other!

So, we have no idea of the form they are in today.

She started doing choreography heading towards the Judges, and then stopped at the boards and started talking to them.

Wrong music. Pity. I liked the wrong music.

Good jump to start.

And it continued like that.

I'd know those notes anywhere. We're moving into "Hotel California"!!!

And a bit of air guitar too!!!

Hey, you're a bit young to be doing that sultry stuff in front of the Judges!

Sorry for not commenting much about the elements, but they were all good. There were no issues to pick up on that I could see.

Into the lead of both the FS and overall.

Vayana finished the Free Skate 1.89 points behind 3rd position, Milena VELCHEVA (BUL), and 2.98 points ahead of 5th position, Eloisa MERINO-SOLA (GBR).

Overall, Vayana finished 2.69 points behind 3rd position, Velcheva, and 1.65 points ahead of 5th position, Marino-Sola.

Vayana is on Ice Partner Search looking for a pairs partner: https://icepartnersearch.com/showbio.php?i=7635

There are currently no Bulgarian pairs at any level, so if she finds a partner, they'd have no direct competition (and Chiara and Vayana could compete at the same competitions without directly competing with each other).

Oooh. I didn't see that one coming. Especially since it is only a few weeks after Vayana did her first Junior Ladies competition, at the 2024 BSF Awards.

I hope looking to switch categories isn't a knee-jerk reaction to not finishing in a higher position in that event. After all, 5th in the SP and overall, and 3rd in the FS, are really good results for somebody in their first competition at the level. And the scores were her highest scores ever.

In a way, it is a shame, because I really like her as a Singles skater. And I was looking forward to the prospect of having the sisters compete directly against each other. It's been so long since they were last at the same level (they competed against each other at the 2016 Priz Victoria and the 2016 BSF Awards, both of which Chiara won, with Vayana in 10th and 11th respectively) that it would be so interesting to see how it would play out now that they are older and more experienced. (Chiara didn't compete at the 2024 BSF Awards).

But, on the other hand, it would be so exciting to have Bulgaria represented in Pairs skating.

I have to laugh, though. Barely a week after I created this thread and back-dated all the posts, it emerges that she is looking to switch categories! :drama:

Whatever happens, I wish Vayana all the best.

When Vayana started looking for a Pairs partner, it looked like the day we were all waiting for would not now happen. But finally, 8 years after the last time it happened, the Hristova sisters are competing directly against each other in the same competition! Chiara and Vayana will both be in action today as their club hosts the Denkova-Staviski Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start today at 09:30:00 EET (07:30:00 GMT). So 2 hours from now.

Vayana will be the 26th skater to start. So, sixth and final skater to go in Group 5 (and sixth skater to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 12:08:00 EET (10:08:00 GMT). So 4h 38m from now.

Vayana is due to start at 12:40:20 EET (10:40:20 GMT). So 5h 10m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Denkova-Staviski Cup Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Vayana finished 26th out of 38 in the SP, with a score of 36.61.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Denkova-Staviski Cup, as I was concentrating on the IceChallenge from Graz.

Vayana is currently 0.68 points behind 25th position, Anastasiia YURCHUCK (BUL), and 0.60 points ahead of 27th position, Ariadna GUPTA ESPADA (ESP). All three of them are part of a group of 17 skaters covered by 9.88 points, stretching from Zoja KRAMAR (SVN) in 13th position, 5.94 points ahead of Vayana, down to Sophia TKACHEVA (IRL) in 29th position, 1.79 points behind Vayana.

Honestly, in a group this big, anything could happen. Vayana could move significantly up the order, or drop a couple of positions.

So let's hope she has a good Free Skate, and moves up!

Vayana finished 26th out of 30 in the FS, with a score of 62.28. This meant that she remained in 26th position overall, with a score of 98.89.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Denkova-Staviski Cup, as I was concentrating on the IceChallenge from Graz.

Vayana finished the Free Skate 1.17 points behind 25th position, Tsvetelina PANOVA (BUL), and 4.55 points ahead of 27th position, Sophia TKACHEVA (IRL). Vayana is the bottom skater in a group of 4 skaters covered by 2.92 points, which stretches up to Victoria SPIVACH (ITA) in 23rd position.

Overall, Vayana finished 5.02 points behind 25th position, Saskia ZAINCHKOVSKAYA (GBR), and 4.05 points ahead of 28th position, Anastasiia YURCHUCK (BUL).

I'm sure Vayana is disappointed with how her first international event at Junior level went. But, we have to remember that she was looking to switch to Pairs Skating. So, it may well be that she and her team did not start making preparations for a season in Singles Skating until later than they usually would.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start today at 14:25:00 TRT (11:25:00 GMT / 13:25:00 EET). So 5 hours from now.

Vayana will be the 7th skater to start. So, second skater to go in Group 2.

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 14:59:50 TRT (11:59:50 GMT / 13:59:50 EET). So 5h 34m from now.

Vayana is due to start at 15:12:00 TRT (12:12:00 GMT / 14:12:00 EET). So 5h 47m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.
