Wakaba Higuchi

Wakabond is headed to the Grand Prix Final :cheer: I knew we couldn't give up just yet. She even stayed up to watch the SA ladies event to see her result

yeah wakaba! Deservedly going to GPF! :hap10: So happy we were all wrong before about her possibly not going haha

Haha everyone was lamenting about her GPF qualification in almost every thread of this forum  So glad to have been proven wrong.

I wake up in the morning and saw Satoko’s win! I feel like crying, could be the best moment in this GP season! Congrats! Wakaba ~~~

Certainly ecstatic that she is heading to the GPF where she belongs! And Japan avoids having only one competitor there in their home country. Hope she stays strong and healthy and fired up!

Her place should've been confirmed already but I'm so glad she's officially in. Hopefully Evgenia is also healthy by then because they're so adorable together.

Wakabond yes!

I am so happy for Wakaba. She should have been in already. With her GP performances this year she deserves to be in the final.

Wow, what a surprising GP! So happy Wakaba is going to GPF, this is actually incredible!! Train hard, but most importantly, keep a cool head Wakaba!!

Yes! Wakaba goes to GPF!

She was unlucky not to have already been guaranteed a spot in the first place... and her scores compare favourably against the the other qualifiers. So I consider this to be Righteous Justice! ;-D

I love Wakaba's tweet after she qualified: just "Omg"

:-D

Yes she does it :yahoo:
felicitations and a big **** ( french expression )for the final.

i like her reaction after the competition i did not know she was watching closely the result is a great competitor.
i would like so much that judges and some people recognize that she can be in the mix when she has good programs why she underestimed ?
however i m afraid with the younger generation who arrived (Rika Kihira , Nana Araki ...) and we forget it but she is still young too 16 years old 😊.

Good luck wakaba you can do it remember when all thought she was technician and not arthistique . :hap10:

I'm very curious to see how Wakaba's scores will compare to the others at the GPF. Her PB's from this season are high enough to contest for a medal; I hope she gets awarded those same scores if she performs just as well!

The GPF qualification that made me the happiest. It would be a shame not to see Wakaba skating those AMAZING programs at home country. Congratulations, wishing all the success there! :cheer:

Mhm... depends a bit, IMO. Her PB this season is still from Lombardia, and that event was pretty generous overall - she hasn't scored like that again even when she was picture perfect at CoC. 212.52 is what she got at CoC, which is lower then the highest GP scores from Alina (213.80/213.88 - who wasn't clean for it), Zhenya, Caro (215.98) and even slightly Kaetlyn (212.91, also not clean). Unless her scores go up quite a bit (which is a big ??? to me, might happen, but then between her events so far they were going down, so...) she will need those 4 to make mistakes to beat them. Of course that can happen, but then if they'll make enough and all is... quite hard to predict IMO.

Hopefully, she'll manage to do well again and prove her consistency further. She'll have quite a bit of pressure as the only Japanese lady in the final, and if she delivers well again, that would be a big victory for her in itself. And please please please let her stay healthy and free of injuries and freak accidents or whatever, this GP series has gotten scarier and scarier with every event. (And everyone else too please!). Regarding the judging, I have really zero idea what to expect.

Unless her scores go up quite a bit

If she's consistent, which I agree is important for her, looking further on, I think they might go up, just from the sheer fact that she managed to qualify. I am not sure how high though, of course I'm talking about a clean program; I doubt they'll go high enough that she can challenge any of the current top ladies, unless they make mistakes. Alina is already scoring higher than she did, and without being clean.
But she should benefit at least somewhat from qualifying, even if not enough for my taste. She is good enough to contest for that podium, but well.

Knock on wood that her health holds, I don't even know what this season is any longer.
