Wakaba Higuchi

All fingers crossed. Her season's average (~73?) should be enough to place her in the last FS group, right?

Depends on who else is there tbh and how well they perform. She's very capable of doing it though!

She's one of the few in women's skating still holding on to what women's skating can be. She’s great technically - the jump quality, the height, the speed. And she uses that quality to enhance the program actually! But it’s the maturity and detail in her choreography and how she delivers it that I most appreciate. Last season she had totally wrong vehicles for her, but this seasons he got two nearly perfect programs - ferocious and yet still playful and nuanced. And the girl owns every program - I mean she’s using every limb, every aspect of her face - even the way she holds her eyes in certain spots to connect and deliver nuance to musical cues!

I know she won’t get any credit for what I just said, but I still appreciate it - and for the record, the spiral into twizzle into illusion turn into the layback Higuchi does right at the end of her FS is harder than any transition than *any* of the other women are doing right now, and yet she gets no credit for details like this. Because she doesn’t over-stuff her program with constant turns and goofy exit transitions that are actually easier than a held edge.

Anyway, best of luck to Wakaba to WC - I’d love to see her get a medal but regardless I know I’m going to get a good performance!

This. This is so true. It is baffles me that this isn't factored in the PCS -- all those things you mentioned might as very well be counted into PE, IT, SS, and TR. But as you said yourself, the transitions judges seem to usually notice are those that very obvious and frequent. The high quality of immensely difficult things like the sequence Wakaba does should be scored the same way if not higher.

it's true it's a shame that she does not get enough credit for this choreographic research luckily some people know it and can appreciate her performance when she was doing her spiral transistion before the spin at the beginning of the season she was struggling to to realize, that proves how much it has evolved even its scheazade of last year has different aspects. I can not wait to see her grow as an accomplished artist and skater.

I can't view the video nooo :( What is it about?

I do not understand Japanese, it's a show on the Olympic post we see wakaba train it is interviewed, they also talk about his Olympic disappointment and his results during the challenge cup. She seems motivated

Can't wait to see Wakaba perform in Milan next week! I just checked the WS rankings, and with Medvedeva's withdrawal it means 3 of the top 9 skaters in the world rankings won't be there, so Wakaba will (I think) be in the final group for the short program! Hopefully this means she finally gets the PCS she deserves for that lovely, energetic program.

Oh that would be awesome if she got put in the final SP group! I love her programs, I keep reminding myself that we get to see them again :cheer:

The world championship starts in 3 days I'm both impatient and at the
Once worried about Wakaba even though she performed well on the challenge cup her diminished scores, the good news is that she will be on the last group, I too look forward to seeing her programs they will miss me next year. .

She will also be on the show star on ice at the end of the month followed by prince on ice I wonder if she has planned another program EX after seeing her with the wig Annie I thought it would make a good program ?

Good luck Wakaba for next week and do your best : hap10:

Being in the last group should definitely help her get the PCS she deserves. Here's hoping she skates cleanly and helps Japan get those three spots back (and maybe, just maybe, she can get a medal out of it)! :hap10:

did you read his latest interview on the Japanese state 2017/2018? she says things interesting and sad

Thanks for referring me. Probably would be best to post the interview here, but man, it is sad. Especially how she said that she skated the Cup in the same mindset as if she was skating in the Olympics. :sad21: My heart breaks for her. Factually, she was the closest one out of all the Japanese girls to win against the current OGM winner, ever, so it must be especially painful for her, even if the other girls did do their best in the Olympics. That was very classy of her to say btw.

The sad thing for me was when she was talking about midlife for the announcement of the result it's so cruel, I understand why she did not have a mood to practice after that.
I do not know if I can put it back it is Grin who posted it, about this the journalist Hiro Yoshida did a very good job.

According to the practice report Wakaba arrived late and made his step sequence and his last spin for the last 20 minutes, it reminds me Shoma Uno who had not woken up and had missed the XD bus
according to the photos I think she is in good condition I wish her well tomorrow despite the presence of Shin Amano.
