Anything with guns.
then Alaska'd be out of the olys! :chorus: I love the shooting events... if you've ever done a round like they do you appreciate the skill so much more...

as for me, I can't think of one thing I'd eliminate... I mean sure it's excessive, but they are all difficult sports that should get their time to shine...

Biathlon!!!! Think about it. You cross country ski for a while, then stop and shoot off your gun!!!! None of this sissy figure skating stuff. Did you see were Vice President Cheney shot someone in a hunting accident a couple of days ago? (Take that, Osama bin Laden!)

considering that it was an accident and that they happen a lot of the time and it's a serious injury I don't find anything humorous about it.

Well, if there is another scandal in skating, I would seriously consider pulling it out until things are fixed. All the drama and backroom deals may be good for attention and ratings, but I believe scandal works against the "sport" in general.

Heck no! Figure skating brings in serious money at the games. They will never pull that sport out.

I'm torn about the inclusion of the "extreme" sports at the games. I know that these kids are highly skilled to be doing all of that stuff, but I find that formalization of such free spirited sports makes them seem so poser like. I mean, snowboarding half pipe is a "messy" sport. I don't think that form is something that snowboarders pay attention to so to have it scored seems so weird and counter to the nature of the sport.

Toni, of course I am sorry about the lawyer who got shot in the face while Cheney was aiming at some quail running along the ground. (This was on the estate of the late chairman of the Haliburton Corp. that Cheney gave all those contracts to for rebuilding Iraq.)

But what was astonishing to me was this. Aren't there supposed to be secret service agents or someone around to make sure that people don't shoot each other in the Vice President's entourage? What if the other guy had shot the Cheney instead of Cheney shooting the other guy. I guess his bodyguards would just say, oops, oh well, stuff happens.

I said none because the snowboarding and freestyle skiing were lumped with ski jumping and Nordic combined, which I think should stay. I also don't favor dumping biathalon (anything that gets any exposure at all for shooting sports is okay in my book) or curling, in curling's case because, while I REALLY don't see the point, a lot of people (Canadians and Scots in particular) seem to really get into it.

They're trying to get synchro in. But it's an approval process.

And if poker is a sport, ice dancing is SO a sport. (Poker is not a sport. Poker is a game.)

That's right!!!!! And I can't wait to see synchro at Olympics!!!!!! It would give to Olympics soooo many new athletes...It would really be amazing, if in Canada 2010 would synchro be Olympic discipline for the first time! :agree:

I was under the impression that while they were there they weren't right up Cheney's butt...

that and it was dusky... I think there can be equal blame for who was in the wrong... Cheney, of course, has taken all responsibility, butthe man rejoining the party should have made mention he was coming... yes the birds would have also heard, but missing a few quail is not as bad as getting your face shot off...

sorry the hunter's code book is coming out in me lol

Oh no, please do let it all come out!

Seriously, though, you have to understand that for most I talk do on daily basis hunting is a weird, dangerous, and exotic sport. When we hear of accidents like that, it makes us even more certain that's what it is. Actually hearing that everyone did things wrong is rather comforting.

P.S. How did they conversation turn to Cheaney?

P.P.S. I do agree with MM's point that if the roles were reversed there is no way in hell the shooter would have been able to fly back home half way across the country the same day.

And you call yourself a conservative! :p
What about all those taxpayer money that goes into the Olympics!

Why should anything be eliminated? I don't see the good that does. Doing that would just cause outrage and controversy.

I voted for curling, but I guess I was wrong... Because Finland won one of it's few medals in curling!! It was silver... And now Captain Markku Uusipaavalniemi (or M-15 as he is called by the foreigners, because his family name is impossible to pronounce for them  , is a superstar in Finland! Who would have guessed?

NEVER CURLING! CURLING ROCKS. Definitely get rid of snowboarding, when a boarder gives away the gold with a hot dog move it pretty much says it all right there, they dont care about the Olympics near the way most athletes do.
Also get rid of ski jumping, what a joke. Keep Nordic Combined and Biathalon though, those combo sports are fun, ski jumping is ok in that vain but not as a sole sport.

The OtherDaryl?!!!! Your knowledge of figure skating history is matched only by the coolness of your nickname!  Welcome.

Mathman :)

Oh, I don't know. Biathlon? I want to say curling but after watching some of it in 2002 I'm kind of interested, and I watched a bit this year (I'm bad since I didn't cheer for Team USA ;)). Some skiing? Aerial skiing actually looks kind of fun...if you're suicidal. ;)

Why biathlon? That is one of the most athletic sports out there......

Alaskan Republicans know how to spend... have you SEEN the proposals Sen. Ted Stevens and Congressman Don Young (family friend btw, ha ha name dropping lol) ask for every year (we almost always get it too, but then again we never get ANWR open so hmmmm lol)

you're right though, had Cheney been shot it wouldn't have been over as quickly... personally I would think twice about going hunting with him, but I also wouldn't go with the guy who was shot... lol and I certainly wouldn't let the press get anything out of me ;)

and why I brought that back up I don't know...

is it excessive? Yes. Does it cost more? Yes... but look at how expensive the tickets are, and they're not going to go down if we got rid of the sports...

Snowboarding rocks... it needs more lovin lol
