For the heck of it I went to youtube and looked up artistic roller skaters and I have to say that some things I roller skaters doing today are very impressive. I used to compete in artistic roller skating and I have to say I never thgought they would come as far as they have. Also, where's granny?

Hi, Daniel. Glad to see you and Lulu back! :agree: Grgranny is still very much with us -- check out some of the threads in the Cafe.

I started out on rollers (as did so many others) before being able (moneywise) to switch to the more elite sport.

All the skating tricks were easier on ice, once one got those heavy rollers off their feet. Biggest problem was the basic edges. A former rollerskater cum 'star' ice skater told me that the difference is that on rollers one skates ON a surface and on ice one skates IN a surface. I go along with that.

Most of my newfound ice friends agreed that Dance on rollers was much more effective than on ice.

I did see the youtube on Artistic Roller Skating, Kzarah, and I agree. That sport has come a long way. Their Nats are in Nebraska, unfortunately, too far fo me to travel this year.

Well hello joesits, from Cleveland isn't it. The things though that I could not help noticing in the roller skating was the toe in on the Mapes are horrible cheated. I noticed almost all camel spins are done on the heal. I imagine it is because the axis or pivot of the spin is smaller and allows them to spin faster. The backward inside broken ankle spin is also a hit but I can tell you that is the easies of the broken ankle spins. The combinations are longer with single loops connecting the combinations. If you have an opportunity to go to you tube and look at Tim McGuire I found a clip on him to be very impressive.

There are four defined edges on Rollers. to do a forward outside camel, one must put pressure on the back outside wheel and for a forward inside camel, the pressure must go on the back inside wheel. Back camels the same with pressure on the forward wheels.

As for the Mapes, I find the jump kind of clunky anyway. On ice, too, I find it boring and it is used so much.

Thanks for the tip on McGuire. I'll check it out.

Joe, I think I would have made an effort to go but the only advertising I saw was the day before. They showed a brief clip and it looked interesting.

My baby's right. It's sure good to see you back, Danny. Now, none of the rest of you are to call him Danny, just me. Now, I need a new roof and many other things done. I wouldn't have known about this if my daughter hadn't told me. I'm just not that interested in roller skating and don't have time to check out much any more. Hopefully, I can get moved before cold weather. Funny thing is, I had been thinking of you and had even checked your name to see if you were back a few weeks ago.
