It is funny when you think Adam most likely will not get in even though he skated clean (besides a fall in SA) and solid and received two bronze medals. Chen will probably make it even though he fell more than once. Jason will probably go even though eh had shaky messy landings in his sp.
Doesn't really make sense but not much in figure skating does make sense so.

The way you say it, one may skate clean and jump doubles and would still deserve to go to GPF

Well, its a bit of luck too, to get to less stacked field. Some folks have no luck ad get just one GP. Happens every year.

If the competition were to end now, the singles finals would be:
-Hanyu, Fernandez, Chan, Uno, Rippon, Chen
-Medvedeva, Osmond, Radionova, Pogorilaya, Miyahara, Sotskova
But the ice is slippery, so I'm confident these will not be the final fields.

So basically we didn't even need the free. ;)

You mean two bronzes with the same number of points? Interesting...

Didn't you hear? The ISU has decided to award Pewter medals just like US Nationals (everybody's a winner you know). A Russian will get that one too ;)

Nathan got lucky to obtain a GPF slot. Rippon should have been 2nd in France and Boyang 1st in China, which would have kicked him out. Oh well!

So both re-matched Chinese Pairs are going to the GPF in their debut season. :agree: But China has no entries in other disciplines.

The US is not represented in Pairs and Ladies but have two entries in Men and will have 3 Dance teams including the two Madisons.

Canada has skaters in all disciplines, 2 in Pairs and one each in the others.

Russia is shut out of Mens but is abundantly represented in Ladies.

Japan has two Men and one Lady, shut out of the team events as usual.

Spain and Germany have entries in Men and Pairs respectively.

It seems Russia is currently weak in Mans and Japan in teams whereas China still excels in Pairs. Their only other Worlds medal contender will not be there.

Nathan got lucky to obtain a GPF slot.

Nathan worked dang hard for that "luck." He wasn't a top seed with his choice of an event or a host spot pick. Nor did he have a top-two National ranking behind him. He traveled for all three of his events this fall: Finlandia, France, Japan. And he had to go into each GP event with a higher internationally ranked U.S. skater competing. He did this the hard way.

Jin should have been competitive at SA. He was doing most of the jumps in practice the day I was there (the quad lutz, but not in combination), though the woman I sat next to said he was missing everything at practice the day before. Maybe jet lag? Anyway, he had the goods to earn his own way into the final. It just didn't happen in the performance.

.

Just because Ice Dance selection is not final. It's amazing how the US is so strong in Ice Dance these days with 3 teams going to the GPF.

Yes, Ice Dance is not technically finalized.

However, both Chock/Bates and Hubbell/Donohue have qualified regardless of final NHK results. H/D are ranked 4th in the GP standings with 26 points. Only two other teams (Papadakis/Cizeron and Virtue/Moir) could possibly beat or tie 26 points, which could push H/D into the last qualifying spot but no lower.

If judges gifted Boyang PCS like they did Chen, Boyang would have qualified.

If judges gifted Boyang PCS like they did Chen, Boyang would have qualified.

Or if Jin had landed one clean jump in his SP at Skate America. He lost that 4th place spot there to Voronov by a mere two tenths of a point. Even closer than his miss at Cup of China. It had nothing to do with Nathan. Jin could have defeated Adam head to head at SA, but he didn't need to. Twenty-one hundredths of a point and a finish above Voronov would have done the job.
