Who will break Yuna Kim's record and when?

Evgenia has only one weakness, her flutz. There is no other aspect of skating in which she is below average, or even average.

Her double axel is not good. She does an arm over the head to cover up the fact that she gets barely any lift on it. Her jump technique in general is not ideal, she's a bit spinny off the ice. She doesn't do the +2Lo combo either. Several of her spin positions could be better. She still has a lot of room to improve artistically and to some extent in skating skills for that matter.

She's been very consistent this season but it's hardly some of the best skating ever.

That's awfully nit-picky. We could also say Mirai jumps a 2A big to compensate for the fact that she cannot 'tano the jump. The judging system does not mandate big jumps, and a skater can get strong +GOE marks without height if other features are present.

I always cringe when those girls have a bad axel technique where they basically skid themselves up into the air. There was almost no lift and is scary af!

I agree with this. She's an amazing skater with incredible potential, but to say she only has one weakness is to be far too generous to her current abilities. Her axel is not amazing, her spins are good but not great, and her interpretation still has room to grow as she matures through different programs. I enjoy watching her and think she could easily break (and deserve to break) Yuna's record in the future, but I would be sad if it's with these programs as her first year as a senior.

I would rather say she has one weakness (her flutz, which is plain not good) and a lot of room to grow - those arent really weaknesses imho, more like stuff that she can improve (things that are good but not greatbasically).

I agree with you, but obviously the judges don't...:rolleye:

They think that she's perfect.

Her double axel is terrible...

She literally has no speed going into it. It always makes me cringe.

But she has consistency, something that is rare these days. It doesn't matter if she has a weak double axel (not agreeing, would have to look back at her programs) if the other skaters are missing their 3-3 combos or under-rotating their jumps.

I was in love with Yuna, and now I am in love with Evgenia.

Yuna is a phenom skater with great overall quality.
Evgenia is such a huge talent with even bigger potential. I will be so happy, if she breaks Yuna's FS record. But I want the record breaking not to be a inflated score. And I deeply wish she maintain and even improve her jumps while growing. Some of her jumps, though very clean, already look quite laboured.

Plus, Tara Won a US, World, and OGM, with one of the worst double axel's in HISTORY!!!!

That's the most impressive thing about her. I think she's the first woman to consistently put a second triple triple in her program, as opposed to a three jump combination with the half loop in the middle. So its mainly a question of whether or not she'll cycle through that revolving door of wunderkind skaters, or stay on the scene for multiple seasons.

I certainly hope she stays on the scene. I love Gracie but, it took her a couple of seasons of bad costumes, robotic skating, and a coaching change to become the great champion that she is now. I think Med is Waaaaaay ahead of the game. If she can stay healthy and happy she may become the next World Champion. However, for her to become a legend, she needs to stay around like Maria Butyrskaya and Irina Slutskaya. This one hit wonder thing does not work for me. She needs multiple National Titles and Medals of any color from Europeans and Worlds to become a legend.

And while I love her, there's also Satoko Miyahara, current World Silver Medalist.
Satoko's axel is quite good, but she has the worst triple flip in history. ;)
I like her very much, but if Satoko comes anywhere near those 228+ points before she fixes her jumps I would be seriously displeased.
And I'm counting on Evgenia to save us from a possible World Champion Satoko.

:laugh2: That was funny. I don't think we need to be "Saved" from a Satoko World Championship. However, it would take a less than par performance for her to beat Evgenia. I realize it rarely happens but, I'd love to see a final flight of SP's like we had at Worlds in 2001. It was spectacular. It was the first time I had ever seen Irina as she didn't make the team in 1999. She was FAST and big jumps. Her free program wasn't bad either but, Michelle blew everyone out of the water.

The scores didn't truly reflect how much better Michelle was than the rest of the competition. I say this as a Maria fan. That night belonged Michelle Kwan. I think the highlight of the event for me was Jamie and David's Free Program.

I don't think Satoko can win World's unless all of the other top skaters make costly mistakes. But if her consistency holds, she has a very good chance of being on the podium again.

I wouldn't call Gracie a great champion if I were you.... :rolleye:

When did Gracie Gold become a "great champion"?

I'm always happy when I'm able to entertain. :)
I wouldn't lose sleep over Satoko WC, but it's a sport. And the judges and tech panels showed that they're willing to give those medals and titles to Satoko. Just imagine Satoko becoming World Champion and Polina T. becoming Junior World Champion. It would be ridiculous, really.
I'm really looking forward to the Junior Ladies SP tomorrow, that could really be a high level competition. And I fully agree, 2001 was very good, I really liked the pairs competition and Michelle was stellar. I always had a soft spot for Irina, I like ladies with big jumps. :) That's also a reason why I really like Yuna!
