Who will break Yuna Kim's record and when?

Jeff Buttle, and Patrick Chan(if we count national champions), and maybe more. I didn't say USA and Canada are one entity, just that they share similar values/philosophy. There are others in the skating community that share similar values too. But USA and Canada are powerful/dominant enough to push for rule change.
Both of those skaters won championships without quads before quads became essential. Now, the US has quadless champs. Canada doesn't. Trying to lump them together as one just doesn't work.

Now that ladies SP is over, I think it's safe to say Kim's record is indeed safe. (or will Gracie get 152.13+?)

Don't count out Medvedeva to score 155+ on Saturday. ;)

That's more likely than Gracie getting 152.13. All she needs to do is push all seven jump passes to the back half and Tano every single one.

If the judges are as generous as the ones in ice dance I guess we will have Yuna's record broken at least 5 times this competition:laugh:

I don't think at all Gracie can get +13 points more than her personal best in the free skating, even if she skates brilliantly.

If Medvedeva skates clean, and with far better presentation than yesterday, then I say there is a chance, because for her it is not difficult to get +2,14 points than her personal best. But now after seeing her short program, I really doubt that she will skate clean program in the free.

Why not? Her SP PCS was higher than Yuna's in Sochi, and in the LP Gracie does seven triples. With Yuna's Sochi PCS plus a clean program, Gracie will soar past the record. Adelina almost did it with -GOE on one jumping pass. Gracie is also skating at home and has a very favorable starting position to earn high marks.

If Gracie skates clean she would certainly get close, if not above it... and, huge home court advantage can do wonders, as we all know. The US is a huge market and what better way to bring figure skating back to the public attention?

That being said, I hope evgenia brings it....

Since Gracie goes after Evgenia, I can imagine a scenario where Evgenia breaks the record with all the tanos, and then Gracie breaks it right after.

seems like judges are okay with giving huge scores (ala Adelina) as long as it stays below the WR...

i guess the WR is like an unofficial ceiling for inflating scores since anything above it will probably be scrutinized against Yuna's LP and deemed unworthy  (unless, of course, it is worthy of such a score).

It would be very hard for judges to make these calculations on the fly. Probably close to half of the Sochi panel scored Adelina above the record. I think Gracie can do it even with a "!" on the flip if she gets +GOE on everything else.

I guess I subconsciously dreaded Gracie breaking the WR. She is no where near Yuna's level. Not saying Evgenia is, but I'd much rather have her break it than Gracie.

Just a note that posts were moved to here that post-date the record break.

Yeah!!! Queen Evgenia breaks Yuna Kim's record at Team Challenge Cup. SP (77.56) + FS (151.55) = 229.11 !!!
