Who's Going to Worlds?

I think there are multiple hotels on the Worlds 2016 website, but I'm not sure if there is only one "official" hotel, like if that's where the athletes are staying or whatever.

Fenway area is obviously great, but if you are looking at a new neighborhood Back Bay is a good choice. Close to two subway lines (green and orange) and lots of cool restaurants and shopping (Newbury street!). Downtown is a little more business-focused and doesn't have such a great restaurant selection, but is still really close to everything. The seaport area is an up and coming area, it's where the secondary rink and all the hotels for 2014 Nationals were. Cambridge is a bit hit-or-miss. There's nice areas, and obviously checking out the Harvard and MIT campuses is pretty cool, but there are also some areas that are getting pretty run down (Central Square is what I'm thinking of for that, although there are still lots of great restaurants around there). You mostly want to look for proximity to subway lines, especially since you really don't know what the weather might be doing in late March/early April. Boston is very walkable, but when you want to get somewhere it's nice to have the subway (just don't expect it to always be perfectly reliable or for trains to come when they should, as any Boston commuter will tell you :laugh2:)

If anyone has any questions about Boston- food, subway, things to do, etc- please don't hesitate to ask me or shoot me a PM. I live on the outskirts of the city but work right next to the TD Garden so I'm happy to help people figure out things about the city.

Thank you! I got to explore a little of Back Bay when I went to Nationals, namely I went to a bookstore/breakfast joint in the area. I don't remember the name except that I had delicious stuffed french toast there. But that was about it. I found an OK hotel/flight package deal for a few hotels in the Back Bay area.

SHOOT! How am I going to be able to throw my hat onto the ice if I'm that far away from it. :((((((( Darn it......

Decided to send an email to ask if it's okay if I can stand near the lower level during one of the skates so I can throw a gift onto the ice after....cause I do not have a pitcher's throw if you know what I mean.

Many times I have seen fans walk down the aisles at the end of a skater's performance and throw things onto the ice. I am sure the ushers at the curtains have no problem with you doing this....the issue is you would not want to miss your favorite skater's performance....no problem asking an usher during a re-surface if you could stand at the top of the stairs to watch the performance and then hurry down and throw whatever onto the ice.....

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for your kind offer.....I am sure I will have many questions.....I am at the Royal Sonesta, and I would think it would be a safe walk at 11 pm from the T at Lechmere to the hotel .4 miles away. I need a good breakfast each day. If I dont like the cafe in my hotel, where can I find a good breakfast near the TD?

Only balcony seats are left for the singles FS. guess I won't be going to Worlds then. I was really excited to go and I was willing to spend more money on the better seats but spending on hotel/airbnb, transportation and what not, all just to view it from the furthest balcony stands? count me out :( marginal costs exceed marginal benefit in this case. :(

why are people allowed to buy a lot of tickets just to resell them at a higher cost? that should be illegal

i know the japanese fans do this with their skating black market, and apparently stubhub does it too.. so unfair. a part of life i guess.

So ticket scalping is legal in Japan? In certain states, etc in the US, scalping, or re-selling tickets on site is not legal but pretty much impossible to stop in this age of technology.....

Bought my tickets for men's and ice dance free skates! The ladies event sold quite rapidly, so I missed out on getting those seats... I'm also holding out for exhibition tickets until more are available

I have honestly NEVER in my life had so much trouble on a ticket site and I buy tickets for theatre, concerts etc here in London all the damn time.

Isnt TicketMaster fun? Dont know if they still have it but they used to have a countdown timer that gave you darned little time to complete the transaction.....I finally learned to set up an account with payment info FIRST, log into that account, THEN go ticket hunting.....in fact, IIRC, the last time I ordered tickets through them, they wouldnt let you see what was available...they OFFERED some tickets which you could take or leave.....
All this is a far cry from our Omaha Nationals where you went to the arena site, zoomed in to a section, chose a seat, clicked on it, and bought it with your credit card.....Boom, done.

When I used ticketmaster it gave me a countdown timer. I can't imagine trying to buy tickets without one!

It makes me nervous, acutally. Much easier to talk with Andrew, have him offer you a seat, and buy it them and there. BTW, a certain person who you would all recognize instantly who sits in the front row at all events and I had a conversation about how he always got the best seats....he shmoozes.....he chats up certain people in the arenas and LOCs around the country and gets dibs on the best seats.....you and I might put in our requests on the first day of ticket sales for the first row, along with lots of other people....but he always gets them..... :)

Yay for PNW representation at Worlds!

^You get your own bathroom on Airbnb...

Well for everyone whose complaining about price and not being able to find hotel lodging, Airbnb is the way to go, just saying.

Actually, I have to eat some crow on this one.....before this week, I thought a BnB was a bed and breakfast .... a room in an old house with a common bathroom and a complimentary breakfast....but at Airbnb, they seem to be letting out rooms with a near private bath and whole mini apts for $100-150 a night, which is very fair...so a bed (room) and bath is a viable alternative. I am sure there are horror stories of any number of ways this could go wrong (how do you get the key if no one shows?) but they are probably few and far between (just a guess). If you are alittle adventuresome, this might be the way to go.

I'd better start getting chatty with LOC people then! I want good seats for the exhibition :)

I just went to ticketmaster for fun....looks like they have stepped into the 21st century on ticket sales...too bad we couldnt have done this on the first day of ticket sales.....
But at stubhub, I was confused.....some people want astronomical prices for ho-hum seats.....$275 + for club level for ladies???? Can these dreamers lower the prices as time goes on?
It might be kind of a game of chicken....at some point, there wouldnt be enough time for the tickets to reach you?????
One thing is for sure.....there wont be lots of empty seats!

Yeah, I hate it when tickets are bought just to be resold at a higher price. They're already pretty expensive to begin with...

You can rent out mansions on Airbnb. Usually you rent out whole apartments, so it's similar to a hotel arrangement.

You coordinate with the owner on where to pick up and drop off keys.

In Australia, we call them scalpers, and it's illegal, though difficult to stop. Some of the AFL Grand Final general admission tickets were going for $500 a seat from the scalpers.

These "dreamers" are actually villainous jerks, who snatch up the tickets when they go on sale and repost them for twice (or more) the price. And as time goes on and the tickets sell out, their price will go up, not down. And there will be people who will be so desperate they will pay - that's what the scalpers prey on.

People do it with other stuff too, not just tickets. When Frozen first came out and was so huge, Disney could not keep the Elsa dresses in stock. The scalpers would buy heaps of them and then flog them on ebay for four or five or more times the price they were bought for.

I got Loge8 row 24, all events package. Not the seat I wanted and didn't want to see all 8 events but for women's free skate, I'll do anything. Probably the only chance I will have in this lifetime to see Mao live!

A Bostonian living in the Downtown/Chinatown area. Let me know if there are any questions about any neighborhoods, public transportation or restaurants. Am happy to answer! :)

I'm excited to tour the city of Boston. I only bought two event tickets (so far ;)) so with my extra time between them and the exhibition, I'm looking for some fun places to visit! I'm also hoping to check out Boston University since I'm applying there for college :hap93:

A lot of my friends went to Boston Uni for the nursing program and they said they enjoyed their time there. Good luck on your admission!
