Who's Going to Worlds?

To anyone looking at spending some time in New York as well - Boston to New York is one of the few routes in the USA where train service is actually good. It might at least be worth keeping in mind as an option especially if flights are becoming a head ache.

I did look at this, except there didn't seem to be many options where checked baggage was allowed? And the price difference wasn't that much, so eventually I was just like "eh sod it, I'll fly, it's quicker and easier".

Could you bring me a dingo dog? Just get a vest for him that says "Therapy Dog" and no one will hassel you.

FYI for karne:
Not trying to change your mind, but it is common practice for Amtrak passengers btwn New York and Boston to bring overnight luggage (such as rolling bags) with them onto the passenger cars of the train.
So no checked baggage (on many trains), but Northeast Corridor passengers who don't mind managing their own luggage take Amtrak all the time. Departing from and arriving at the centrally located train stations is more convenient for some people instead of schlepping to/from the airports.
(I forget the Amtrak limit for how many pieces of luggage are allowed on passenger cars, but at the very least, I have taken the train with one rolling bag + one large shoulder bag + one handbag.)
Mentioning the above only in case it is helpful.

Meanwhile, very exciting that you will be skating at Rockefeller Center, karne.
I'm sure you don't want to spend all your time in NYC on skating, but ... if outdoor skating in Central Park would be fun to you, Wollmann (sp?) Rink is a walkable distance from Rockefeller Center.
Please don't get me wrong. When I used to skate, I loved doing so at the iconic Rockefeller Center. If I had to choose one or the other, I would go there.
(Disclaimer: I haven't been to Wollmann in years, and I don't know off the top of my head when it closes for the season. But the rink is much bigger than Rockefeller Center, and Wollmann offers a different kind of enjoyment in NYC, if you have additional time/interest.)

Can't. They're very endangered and highly protected as a species. There are very few pure-blooded dingos left and the zoos here have their work cut out for them trying to save them.

Oh, I didn't realise. I kept looking at it thinking, no, I just couldn't be THAT tourist who shows up on the train with a huge rollie suitcase...

At any rate, I booked my flight already, so I'm cool with that

Wow! You mean I might be able to go skating in Central Park, too?!?!?! WOW! :hap57:

How about. a Queensland Heeler? They look like dingoes, they're readily available in the US, not illegal to own or endangered, and they last forever: ours (which was a Heeler/Chow Chow mix) lived 15 years!

I just signed up with this forum, I'm not sure why I was never a part of it before--probably because I knew I would get addicted ;)
My mother and I just bought our tickets from Newfoundland, Canada!!! We are lifetime fans, but this is our first time traveling to a competition. We have been planning this trip since it was announced Boston would be hosting Worlds. We will also be in the nose bleed section, but it will be worth it!! Can't wait!!! :yahoo:

Funny story actually, while I was watching The ICE this summer, two girls who were sitting next to me had a purse full of every flag of every skater! Although it was just a show, I was so amazed by every flag they kept pulling out... American, Canadian, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Italian... It was like Marry Poppins' bag

I have seen someone sewed up five or six flags together, and each time she had a very nice system of folding them to show the flag representing the skaters on ice, very impressive.

That sounds like an awesome idea. I must look into that. I figured out I'm going to have to bring an Australian, Russian and Latvian flag (the Australian & Latvian ones are gonna have to be the biggest though, Russia will have plenty of flags waving for them already). :hap10:

How about a tablet with all the flags as JPG files? Or a big cell phone? I am making a "Go World!" Flag instead.....

I've actually seen that. I can't remember where, but I have seen that.

A great one I saw at the cricket a couple of summers ago was a white board (I think also called a dry-erase board) with big-tipped whiteboard marker. They just changed the sign according to what was transpiring in the game at the time. Genius.

Hi everyone! I am going to Worlds! Already have the tickets to all practises and events and the Gala. I Will stay in relatives house, maybe a little bit far from Boston (2 hours. To americans this is not far).

I am from Portugal, we don't have ice, so Boston 2016 will be my first competition ever. I would love meet someone and going to the GS dinner or going out to some party. There will be some official bar to parties?

After Worlds I plan visit Washington, New York and some place with a lot of show.

Now it's more of a maybe now since I submitted all the forms and applications I needed to do so far for MCATs and internships. And I saw a flight that'll be from 1:30-2:55 from Reagan National to Boston and I think could work. Probably will talk to my mom more about it in a few days.
