Why is Sarah H so unpopular with so many?

I will say that Sarah has my respect. Let's see she was 16 when she won the gold in SLC and has pursued what she feels is important to her, and that takes maturity. I always loved what the commentators said her parents told her, It's nice to be important but it is more important to be nice. I agree with you Dizzy that it would be wonderful to have a child like Sarah.

Wow how did this thread get revived. I'm so not a fan of Sarah's skating. I don't think she's an appealing skater at all but how in the world is this girl stuck up.

I like her personality and not her skating. I think she seems like a nice girl and she must be smart. I would go to her any day if she becomes a doctor because she seems like she would be caring.

Well, looking at what's being posted here so far, I haven't got the impression about Sarah, being unpopular with "so many," rather she's been unpopular with quite a few not very well articulated posters.

I think the title of this thread is mean, it's really an invitation to try to find flaws with a skater, picking her personality apart, while trying to guess why she could have been unpopular with "many."

Registered, did you go back to the first post and check why I started it. I was simply baffled at the postions many were taking about Sarah and her skating. It wasn't meant to be mean at all, but rather an ernest asking of the question "Why?"

Perhaps something like: "Why Sarah's skating doesn't seem popular with so many," would be more accurate title? This way discussion would be purely about Sarah, as a skater. In all fairness, I don't think people who don't know SH personally can accurately reflect on her personality traits.

I actually agree that Sarah and Mk have similar fan base, but for a very different reason. They appreciate great skaters who are also role models on and off the ice. I saw a Sarah Hughes commercial on tv yesterday, she looked great in the Yale sweatshirt advocating for kids.

I am a Sashafan, and I post on Sasha's forum. To our defense I have to say that I've never seen anything mean being posted that would reflect on Sarah's personality. Some are fans of her skating style, and others aren't, but it's kept strictly to the athleticism. There's been more posts about Sarah lately, since Sasha switched to Robin. Actually, now I'm recalling a thread about placements at 2002 Olympics, and overwhelming majority of posters agreed that Sarah was unquestionably the best skater out there.

Sarah is a well grounded girl who had a great skate when it counted. I dont think most dislike Sarah the person but take issue with the skating. I for one think Sarahs skating was poor quality and flawed for the most part so I dont think of her as the OLY Gold winner, I dont think of her at all. Yet hats off to Sarah for pursuing her schooling. I do think we will see an older skater in 2006 and not a teeny bopper because they tend to get the Gold and run. The sport is in decline and the ISU knows whats on the line. Any hoo Sarah is a nice kid and whats there not to about her. Sarah is a person what she does is skate. Seperate the two.

I like Sarah Hughes! Because she'sanewyorkerjustlikeme!!!! Although I wasn't rootin' for her to get gold at Olys, I have to say she had a fantastic skate there. I really love her style of skating. It's like pleasant elevator music.

We have discussed this topic before and really there is no basis for all the negatives things said of Sarah.

She showed the world she could certainly deliver and was spot on when it counted at the Olympics.

I think there are probably many folks out there who have never figure skated and certainly have never competed - there seems to be a lot of "arm chair experts" here. Fs is a very demanding sport - especially in the competitive ranks and these skaters put themselves through a lot. Sarah was rewarded for her efforts and deserves our respect.

I liked Sarah's skating style. It's too bad she had to move on so soon, but that is her decision.

I wish her well in her chosen career.

Okay, at first I didn't like Sarah or her skating (especially after SLC-- I'm guessing it was due to the fact that she won the OGM and Michelle didn't). I then realized that it was a stupid reason for me not to like her or her skating! So, I started watching her skate and realized that she was really talented. I think that she is a really gifted and intelligent young lady.

Go ahead and laugh, IIRC that was in the 01 -02 season. Some are no doubt teenage kids, but some are adults. I remember reading an adult who said, "Only middle age women in their 50s like Michelle"

Before the Olympics, some teenage Sasha fans even wrote a fantasy fan fiction about Sarah and Sasha in the same HS. Sasha was the head cheerleader, and she dated the football captain, and Sarah was jealous of Sasha. Sasha had all the attention and Sarah had none.

There is an adult Sasha fan who held a grudge against Sarah for applying for some usfs scholarship/ award just prior to her application to Yale, he thought that was unfair advantage because Sarah was the Olympic champ, and she did not need the award and was depriving others of the opportunity. I bet he had a fit when Sarah received that award/ scholarship from usfs. LOL, this particular Sasha fan's post is googleable.

About Sarah's looks, from recent pictures, she has changed so much there is a maturity and serenity about her.

At least Sasha fans are not known for writing 20 pages long threads on stuff, coming out of Sarah's nose during her Ol. FS (no kidding), constant rant on unfairly getting gold medal with "cheated 3/3's," and "stealing MK's moves." (Check recent MKF threads for the last 2 pointers.)

For every bad fan behavior of one camp we can find an equivalent of another camp. I have no reason not to believe you, but I don't have to go to a skater specific forum either.
Just a diehard Sasha fan Pau!ine's messages about Sarah here at GS will do.

Sashagold who post here at GS wished Sarah and Michelle to fall and sustain an injury prior to national.

From my experience of surfing the web, I find most fans who love Michelle also love Sarah.

This is the recent thread from MKF, regurgitating (still) final standings from SLC. Feel free to check it out, only about 2 or 3 posters have Sarah on top of the podium, majority put her in 5th or 6th after the SP, so she barely makes a podium at the final standings. Some posters explain in details why Sarah DID NOT deserve to become an OGM (flutzing and such). Majority of posters, I believe, are adults, but if this is not a complete diss towards Sarah's achievement, I don't know what is. Keep in mind that this is 2004, but the fan base, that is supposedly likes both MK and SH still cannot reconcile with the fact that Sarah won the gold on that night, and Michelle didn't.

It is nothing compare to someone wishing Michelle and Sarah fall and getting an injury.
