Will Carolina Kostner live up to her full potential?

Well she's barely has a team. She's only been with Fassi for a few months. Before that she was with Carroll another few months. Just from listening to the commentary from Bezie, Hamilton, et al, it sounds like she's the one who is unwilling to go with a training plan.

Yes, perhaps she has a mind problem that causes meltdowns, but I don't think the lack of training helps either.

Their commentary is based on what they see at competition practice - Carolina does not always do full runthroughs there, but she does them at regular practices, I have seen it lots of times. She is hard working and I find it unfair of people to say that she is the one who is unwilling to go with the training plan, making her sound lazy stubborn. She is a hard working girl and Bezie, Hamilton et al should not say things like that based on a couple of competition practices that they attended.
I have seen a lot of her practices and I also saw her during warm-ups that lead up to her melt-down performances, her jumps were spot on and perfect. It clearly is a mental problem. She just doesn't have the mind to compete.
A lot of people say that she was born to skate, but not born to compete. I really hope she can overcome her nerves at Worlds to show what she is capable of - which is so much.

Thanks for posting that! If the comment was really based on the competition practices; what the hell were they talking about? Of all the practices I've seen, and admittedly, it's only the ones that get on youtube, but still; most skaters don't do all their elements in a runthrough. It's about getting the feel of the ice, knowing where each element is going to go. There's usually lots of reasons why not to do all your elements; you're a bit jetlagged, you want to save your strength for the competition later that day... It makes absolutely no sense judging someone based on the practice sessions. In interviews Carolina always struck me as a hardworking, modest, shy girl; this whole thing about her being stubborn, not wanting to train decently and had a row with Frank Carroll just sounded very out of character; but this puts it all in perspective again.

Of course; concluding it's entirely a mental problem might not be that reassuring.. She's been competing for a long time; how come she still has so many issues?

I'm still hoping to see a confirmation of her Worlds attendence.. I hope she proves us all wrong there.

Oh God...thank you for your comment! I'm happy that someone said how thing really are! Honestly I was getting tired about all the comments about how she trains during competitions! not only from Hamilton & co which I know they know their stuff and are really competent but also I've heard comment from tugba karademir about how kostner doesn't train in the right way etc...you simply can't judging how a skater train just watching her trainings during competition because they're not the most important trainings and they are really different from usual's ones...again, her problems is her head and it's a really hard problem to solve..it takes time, loads of time..but she works really really hard and I hope she will be paid back...
