The commentator said she had doubts of it being on an inside edge.
Not on this video. The British Eurosport said so, although they did said on the slowmo, Chris, that it looked good to them.

I haven't had a chance to watch the program yet, but judging from what the protocols say Yulia's score was fair enough. She lost 1.50 points on the last spin (BV + normal GOE), and 4.00 points on the flip. I don't know if the call was right but without those two things her score would have been 71.74 - 72.05 that's an enormous score.
I take that back, I just watched her program and that was not a fair score. Everything she did from the elements to the miscellaneous movements were stronger and clearer than at COC. Her program was incredible, how did she possibly lose 1.00 in BV on her combination spin, and almost 0.50 in GOE, it was as good as she's ever done it. And that 3F looked fantastic. A fully-rotated, well done triple should never go from being worth 6.83 (BV + GOE at COC SP) to 2.67 (BV + GOE at GPF SP).

"Ese es el 'triple flip' que podriamos mirar en camera lenta. A ver si hizo un buen filo en interior... que tiene mis dudas."

Yulia, Eteri and the Dude agree with you . Watch their faces as they stare at the score.

Is this costume for real? https://twitter.com/nim_on_ice/status/542985248758562816
It's beautiful and apparently means tiger in chinese.![]()

This should be just for training I think?

Yes but was is it in Barcelona here? I love that costume.
Pity she can't use it in China.

You are right. My mistake. I stopped at un buen filo en interior.
In anycase, I'm for ! call and losing 4 point on that it's stupid. Punish the bad technique it ok for me, 4 point it's ridiculous.
I've actually been all of the edge calls, but I do think 4 points is really harsh. Especially for a non-chronic edge problem.
After rewatching it I still don't understand why she didn't win the SP. Wonderful performance. Better than CoC.Here's an HD video. It does look more like a "!", but it's hard to say.

I don't think wrong edges should be as bad/worse than falls. Falls get punished just on GOE while edges get both GOE and BV docked.Well, I think the right technique has it's importance and should be rewarded or punished.
I see nothing wring with having the calls. The GoE's are what they are, see the Pairs.![]()

I also disagree with the e vs. ! distinction--I think the difference in points is too much for mistakes that aren't too different. It also gives too much power to too few people (the tech panel). If you get e, not only do you get the BV docked, but the final GOE has to be negative.
Imo, either punish edges with a BV reduction and leave the GOE up to the judges (positive or negative as they choose), or give an e call, specify the final GOE must be negative, and let the judges decide how negative depending on the severity of the flutz/lip.
/rant over. Sorry, this isn't so much about Yulia as it is about my own personal feelings about the rules.
But since she got e, the judges have no choice but to give her -GOE. Hence why I have a problem with the rules themselves. But I fully agree with you on that, see above.![]()
That's why I said 4 point it's way too much for a very good jump otherwise.
I think e calls deserve negative GOE but deduction in BV is just too much. :disapp: I'd rather that all the edge calls get -3 GOE alone while falls get -3 GOE with -1 deduction and deduction in PCS. That would be fairer IMO.But since she got e, the judges have no choice but to give her -GOE. Hence why I have a problem with the rules themselves.
Now, those two judges shouldn't have given her -3... but in the past we've seen plenty of perfectly nice jumps with UR/edge calls getting horrible GOE. It's nothing new. I think it's ingrained in the judges that edge/UR = bad GOE. Needs to be changed, imo.
Really liked Julia's performance! It was probably my favourite skate of the night
However, I don't think edge calls should be less severe. Would you want to see someone try to do the Lutz even if they can't, and yet they still do it anyway because they aren't punished severely enough for them to consider taking the jump out of the program? I think the rules are fair, though perhaps more points should be deducted for a fall.
