Yulia Lipnitskaya

That's cute.
I don't remember where but once Japanese fan told me Yulia said in an interview (Japanese TV) that she considered Yuzuru a hero. I don't know after the men event at CoC Russia, what does she think of Yuzuru now. An idiot? (well it's me, lol).
But I think she will fire up because of the mindset "Yuzuru can do it, so can I", something like that.
GO GO Yulia!!

PS: But I hope she will not do something as crazy as Yuzuru. :bang:

Volk, he is pontificating on how she isn't handling stardom in the way he would approve. More than 300,000 avowed fans would no doubt disagree with him. As for the medal ceremony, try taking her at her word. It's pretty simple, really. I forget lots of things under a small fraction of her stress. The mind protects us in myriad ways. You know, defense mechanisms. Everybody here and elsewhere has their brilliant theory, it's like a kennel of barking expert dogs. Can there be any wonder that she would want to avoid this tabloid goldfish bowl? Anyone know the Fellini film 8 1/2 ? It begins with the ultimate Megapolis scene (man actually becomes kite), ends with kumbaya. We might benefit by reflecting on what happens between

When you put it like that, I kind of understand Julia. I have on more than one occasion simply forgot to go to work when I was in college. I worked in the library... and on many of those occasions I was actually in the library doing homework or whatnot and I simply didn't go to the front desk for my shift!

It's so hard to believe, but that kind of thing happens! After apologizing to my supervisors, I was rightfully punished by doing stack work (putting books on shelves)... the most boring job in the world.

I do, however, believe that someone should be disciplined. Not harshly, like a ban or anything like that, but maybe a fine to let her and her team know this kind of action isn't acceptable. It's understandable that Julia herself would forget as you said because the mind is powerful... but, she has a huge team who kind of have a duty to keep her ready for competition, healthy, and out of trouble.

That being said, I don't dislike Julia. Her SP is among my favorite of all the ladies this season! I hope she pulls herself together for her next grand prix event!

Yes, the second place will be enough. I don't think that there will be the first - Julia never won against Lena at the international competitions on juniors... And here also LP isn't ready.

Juniors can not represent everything......Moreover, Yulia beat Elena at GPF and Russian National last year.

I LOVE her exhibition! It's so classy and, could never think before, but she was also so appropriate. Love this song and love her skating. Brava Yulia!

(long recount, but here's a super rough summary of their encounter with Eteri and Yulia)

Team Russia was boarding a coach for the airport, the two skating fans rushed to see her and Team Russia off. Yulia was already on the bus, seated near back with curtains drawn. Eteri was at front row of the bus reading her ipad. One of the girls went up to Eteri with a panda plush toy (intended originally for Yulia), not knowing how to pronounce Eteri's last name, she said (in english) " Dear Madam. This is a small gift for your daughter Diana." Eteri accepted the toy, but didn't say anything. The fan then said (to Eteri) "Maybe it is unlucky for Julia in Shanghai this time, but we really expect to see her in Shanghai again next March." to which Eteri responded warmly with "Thank you. I will tell her."The fan then looked towards the back of the bus, where Yulia was sitting quietly alone, stared at her for a second, then turned to Eteri and said "See you in France." Eteri smiled and nodded, and replied "Thankyou very much." Then the skating fan left the bus and waited for the bus to leave with her friend, and told her about what just happened. Her friend was slightly peeved that she had given the panda plush originally intended for Yulia to Eteri's daughter (lol!), to which she reassured her that she 'laying the foundation for the future', and that she'll throw plenty of plush toys for Yulia next time.

They also saw Yulia when she first arrived for COC at the hotel, where she was signing for skating fans.

Poor Yulia! I can't image how she was feeling. I can't stand looking at her at the K&C, it was so heart-breaking. Be strong my baby!!! You will be alright!

Thank you, moviebuff. I think the last paragraph resonates with many of Yulia's fans in China:

Yulia, my precious little girl, we will see you at TEB - Although Shanghai may not be your lucky place (for now), we still hope to see you and your charming skating performance next year here at the World Cup Championships!

On the lighter side: I think Eteri is nicknamed "Chinese-instant-noodle lady" (泡面姐) among Yulia's Chinese fans because of her curly hairs. It's kind of cute (and I hope it is not taken mistakenly in other cultures). Yulia is nicknamed 软卡 but I do not know the meaning of it.

I'm only guessing, but '软' generally refers to flexibility and/or softness. I think in Yulia's case, it means something along the lines of 'oh-flexible-one'. (If not, then they're referring to 超'软卡'士达排包, which is a twirly pastry:laugh:)

Whatever happens later this year, I hope she recovers physically and mentally....IMO skating can come later. It is both worrying and endearing that Yulia (and other athletes like Yuzuru) put the expectations of fans and countrymen above their own happiness and sometimes well-being.

"Oh-The-Flexible-One" We worship her ...

I just hope she will not keep herself in isolation and know there are many of us who laugh and cry for her ...

Julia will probably barely make the GPF, bronze is doable in TEB
I think Miyahara wins gold in NHK, Gold will not land all her jumps

软卡 can be translated as 'Software' or 'Floppy Disks', or bank credit card (must be her ability to score).

Good of her to have apologised, now hopefully people can move on. I think she can still make the final, one thing about Julia is her competitiveness.

That translation does not sound good to me. 卡 could mean cast or role. Right or wrong, I will stick with :bow:Oh-The-Flexible-One:bow: :p

:agree: I hope she will turn to her SUNNY side soon. After all, that's her middle name on VK, yes?

卡 just means card. OR stuck :P I thought Eteri's nick is hilarious! Instant Noodle Sister! (Flattering acknowledging her youth vs someone like Tat.)

Thank you for the story. I hope Yulia is okay. Some time alone isn't always a bad thing.

She's been fined. An unspecified part of her prize money is deducted.

It also says here she apologised to the ISU representative and the president of the Chinese Skating Association.

http://m.rsport.ru/figure_skating/20141110/787537488.html
That's all perfectly reasonable. She violated the rules and got a stated punishment. And it's good that she apologized. Now hopefully people on the internet can stop crucifying her.

卡 here has the pronunciation of one syllable in her family name Lipnits'ka'ya. 软 means flexibility.
Because Russian names are a little long after translated into Chinese to remember and say, almost every Russian skater has their own interesting nicknames among Chinese fans.
