Yulia Lipnitskaya

She was in her home city for the NY and Christmas holidays. She's been in Mascow since last week at least, remember she went to the meeting with ETERI and all the other bosses, it was written in mil.articles, lol!

Team Ilya, all the way. :disapp:
I hope his latest interview gave Yulia and Eteri an idea, to say goodbye to him for good.

I still can't quite figure out Ilya Averbukh.
As hard as it is, I mostly know what to expect from Julia and Eteri, but with this guy I never do.
Once I think of him as just a choreographer, next week he looks to me like Julia's agent and after that he transforms into newsmonger.
On time he is very thoughtful, supporting and caring for Julia - like when he asked fans to not expect much from her this season, then he gives interviews like this week, where he virtually exposes her all deficiences as a skater.

Who exactly is Ilya Averbukh? What team is he playing for: Team Julia, Team Eteri or Team Ilya?
What kind of person is he: gossiper, analyst or self-promoter? Is he that honest when talking with Julia and Eteri face to face? Or maybe even they ask him to say some things in interview?
These are the question I'd like to know the answers for.

The video above (post #4863) contains a supreme Yulia moment, from 33-40 seconds. Ilya likes to use symbols to create extra-musical programs (kite in Megapolis), and he has a genius for combining and arranging music (Rota and Tiersen in R&J). Yulia is on another plane. She uses abstract movement to bring music and feeling together, and she has a genius for choosing music that works (SL). Yulia and Ilya complement each other, and all goes well if Yulia finds the music she needs. We saw that in SL. But if the music isn't Yulia, she's like a French chef in a two-bit sushi bar.

Aside from his prima donna complex, Ilya was out of touch with Yulia's vision. He's too busy and too pragmatic for all that artsy stuff. In his opinion she was just being difficult. In what sounds like an excuse, he said there are very few who could work with her. On this last point he and I agree if he means work successfully with her. If Yulia finds a choreographer who is transported by the above video excerpt, who shares her love for an intuitive union of feeling and music, who understands how much Yulia depends on the right music, and who values thinking and experimenting with her, then most of her confusion will be resolved and she will reach heights no one can imagine.

witcher, If you can't quite figure him out, imagine what it's like for Yulia. He is an unacceptable risk.

Well, he said working with Radionova is pure pleasure, because she's suggesting and adding "artsy stuff" by herself during practice, so he is not THAT pragmatic and busy after all.

Yet some say Julia has no intuition for music at all, that she's cute skating robot.
And when she says "what's artistry without elements?", they triumph. :rolleye:

Another example - Averbukh saying female skaters puberty is global problem and raising age limit to 18 should be considered (28.12.2014): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj7FhCnn-SA
Two of his greatest clients wouldn't be even eligible to showcase his programs in seniors under these rules. So again: Ilya Averbukh altruist or Ilya Averbukh businessman? The guy is mystery to me.

I think he will change his statements all the time, whatever suits his purpose at the particular moment. That's it. And he's good enough to use backstage data to back up his statements.

I think you understand him very well.

that's the clip. Thanks, witcher. Radionova and Yulia are very different skaters. Given Ilya's flattering statements, it seems they are made for each other. By coincidence, she is placing very well. As Sam put it about the "pure pleasure," he needs someone like Radionova who will do the work for him. I am inclined toward Meoima's perspective, he lacks substance and consistency, and tends to be self-serving. In other words, BS with a purpose. That is likely the sum total of the mystery.

I remember that interview and Sandra Bezic, who repeated that during the Olympics, completely twisted what she said. Yulia was speaking about her problems during the 2012-2013 season, about her injuries, growing etc. and she was referring to the competitions. Like if you do not have the tech part, you can't make the jumps, you lose. Now, I would like to know what problem have those who complain with that statement? Because if that's false then she should've won during this season, right? :sarcasm:

Besides, whether you are a musician or dancer, there is no way on earth that you would be able to express the "artistry", the musicality, when you have not mastered the tech. part. I'm not saying that you should be a genious. I'm saying that at least you need to feel secure, before even thinking to go into a depth analysis of the "musical", or "artistry" part of a piece of music, or a dance. If you don't know how to use the bow, you'll have a terrible sound, for example.
That's why people study a piece of music for hours each day, for weeks and months, very slowly, or a dancer trying a step or a lift many times before it becomes efortless and fluid. Then, and only then, you can fully express yourself from an artistic point of view.

Art and tech come together. They're not opposed. Surely falling on a triple lutz doesn't help your program?

I can think of very, very few performances that remain wonderful despite a slew of technical errors. I don't see why anyone would use a very basic statement like that against Yulia.

She lives in Moscow. I don't think she was away.
She went back to Yekaterinburg for a while so I am confused. Now that I remember she must have been back by that time for the meeting with the fed.
I wonder if she has started training already.

Well, she went back to Ykaterinburg for some vacation and she is back. Nothing strange about it.

Maybe this time she will have more time for school. She is still a teen after all. IIRC she is going to finish school early?

Yulia said that she's taking 2 years in one and hopes to finish her secondary education in the spring. So she'll have more time to rest after training next year and who knows she might go to the university in the future.

She said so, yes. She said she has some exames by the end of the month also, I think?

I haven't posted on here in a while, probably because I have no idea what's going on and I can't keep up:laugh: But I'd like to address the topic to which I could relate: SCHOOL!

2 years in one! Oh my days! I can barely survive my 3rd year of high school right now, and she's aiming to do her last two in a year? Incredible! This "rough season" (if you want to call it that) couldn't have come at a better time because the amount of exams she has to take can be very stressful! If she does complete her two years, she could focus solely on figure skating! Seems to me that Yulia knows what she's doing!;)

(When I say "survive," I'm not saying I'm doing poorly...it's just a lot of work:cry:)
