Got to say that Yulia is not technically powerfully but she just has that extra special quality about her that cannot be quantified and explained. Somewhat like Sasha Cohen, that X-factor that will draw audience into the performance. I do not think it is something that can be taught. So if she can keep her technical skills intact, her special quality will take care of the PCS.
she scored 210-ish at '14 euros. that seems technically sound. anyways what are her tech probs? she flutzes, her jump height is low, what else? how hard is it to overcome these tech probs? anyone...?
(and a reminder: at the beginning of the '14 season yulia was generally considered a technical skater who lacked in artistry.)

I find myself liking a lot of skaters. There are so many ways to attack this sport and more importantly the program that a skater has chosen to perform. What I find so appealing about what it is that Yulia does is she has a way of connecting with herself first and foremost. In a way she is sharing with us as opposed to performing for us. This is crucial to her nature I believe. I've said it before but look at any picture of her( even this year's R&J) and it looks like she is more than just in the moment but rather she is creating a moment. A personal moment of truest commitment and vulnerability. I think that is why her bows at center ice after her skates strike me as being so heartfelt. She is thanking everyone for being willing to appreciate in what she not only is but what she has offered. It's never been a yeah...I was good or I am the next big thing fighting for this medal today (although that is of importance) more so I feel she just acknowledges being appreciated for doing what comes very naturally to her.
Technical issues aside I think she grew as a performer this year. I actually think R&J could have trumped SL in quality but alas...technical issues prevented it from happening. Oh..this sport is cruel. Going forward I just want to see her content and again proud of herself at center ice after any skate regardless of the outcome but we all know how high her standards have always and likely will always be. SJID has pointed out to us how she is a like a butterfly who flies on very delicate wings. Her vulnerability is almost a strength that she can never have control over and it will likely frustrate her at times. I would find it hard to define such a quality as anything short of the mark of a true artist.
End rant....and no...I have no idea where it came from but if you know me at all..I do this every so often

You should rant more often. Important things can't be said in just a few words.
It is very important to remember that Yulia skates in order to communicate intimately. "I want to show you what I feel." And, "Thank you for supporting me, (without you I could not succeed)." Those two quotes open the door to her incredible world. Yulia's chat is a testimony to her success, it is a vein of pure feeling. Every entry attempts to express how deep the feelings run. Almost half tell her she has changed their lives. Yulia is that rare individual for whom humanity waits in its desperation. Thank you for your post, we need to be reminded of this and to praise it again and again.

Another very thoughtful post. I think we saw just a hint of her plan for R&J. It was a casualty of technical requirements and techinical weakness.
Megapolis at the Russian test skate is an interesting example of how she performs without the pressures of competition. This version was different than any later performance. Watch the musical-motion intricacies in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YaVfbMwtO0 There is much that is incredible here, including the sequence from about 1:47 to 1:50 which is an amazing interpretation of the music, both literal and sensuous at the same time. This Megapolis was a huge step forward artistically from anything she had done. Sadly, the exceptional expressiveness was watered down before the competitive season began. Compare the relatively bland GPF Megapolis performance, for example, in which the brilliant 1:47-1:50 has been removed. I assume she simplified the expressive component in order to include required elements which weren't in this test skate, and to conserve energy needed to execute those elements. The important message for me is that this performance suggests her artistic gift (or profundity) is diiminished by the requirements of competitive skating. For most skaters nothing is lost in fulfilling those requirements. In Yulia's case, we can see from this Megapolis example that she compromises some of her best musical ideas in order to skate competitively. Like you, I hope she can find the strength to do it all since she insists on continuing in competitions.

Maybe it's a choice. Is it possible that jump height is intentionally low, in order to minimize disruption to expressive flow? Her style is all about expressive subtlety. Disproportionate movement would ruin the effect. Her spins are uniquely demanding and require incredible strength, but unlike jumps they do not interfere with the dynamic level of her performances.
Good point on "the technical skater who lacked artistry." It takes some people a while to see it, but she eventually gets through to everyone.

I like the comparison to Sasha. They both have the X Factor to be sure and are very fragile. But I thought Yulia was much tougher than Sasha so I was surprised Yulia slumped so badly this season. What a shame.

I very much agree with this and I'm very sure we will get to see her fully mature and in all her beauty.
As it's the end of the season and we have plenty of time to speculate, do you think Yulia will keep her SP for the next season? Given that she's reworking her jumps, she would have more time to practice the dreaded FP. But maybe she wants to cut herself from this season alltogether and have brand new programs. I would love to see Megapolis again, but I am equally excited from the prospect of new choreographer and what can he/she do for Yulia's programs. Btw. are there any rumours about who will take Averbukh's place? I remember that Elena Tschaikovskaya was discussed a while ago...

Yulia has already answered that she's changing everything for the new season. I doubt that she'll be her choice, we just need to wait a few weeks to
see the new choreographer's name.
I'd prefer it if she ditched everything associated with this season. (Heck, she's even ditching Averbukh, so his programs can go too.

I was kidding. Of course I didn't forget SL (which she can keep skating in shows.
).I just feel like she should put this season--and its programs--behind her. Megapolis has already been performed to its fullest. R&J hasn't, and I don't think Yulia is in a place where she can skate that program clean. Time to start fresh.

I like all 4 programs he did for Yulia. I just didn't like him speaking about her everywhere, especially during this difficult season.

I really liked You Don't Give Up on Love and, of course, SL. Megapolis was ok; I guess I had huge expectations for it and when it was used to portray childhood, I was disappointed, thinking it was very fitting for a more mature program. But R&J... I know it didn't come near to its potential, but all I could see was Ilya trying, and failing, to reproduce Schindler's List with another song. Something tiny that was brought to my attention was the Bauer: It didn't belong in that moment as well as it did in SL, but it was still there. The elements, IMO, were the same. There was no innovation.
