Yulia Lipnitskaya

I just heard Russian commentator saying on-air during Zhenia's Ex LP that "it appeared this program could be performed by another Russian skater". Media really ganged up against Julia this weekend. :ohwell:

Here's the British Eurosport coverage of the LP for anyone who's interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czqEwCtjz0Y
I think they got Marina and Mishin mixed up...unless I totally missed something
They were indeed quite encouraging, honest and understanding about Yulia's current transition period.

Thank you so much!! I'll check as soon as I can. :yay:
I've always liked their coverage.. while laying out facts and all the technical stuff, they're always able to sound earnest with their opinion and that I appreciate.

And wow to the stuff that has been discussed few pages back.. Not gonna say much but Ilya did sound bitter tbh.
Oh well I just am hoping for Julia to keep focusing on herself and not let things get to her. It may still be rough time now but the only way is up and I'll always support her no matter what. :agree:

There was the standard huge screen in the middle of the arena, and there were smaller screens at each corner...So "coincidentally" I was looking at the screen right over my view of YULIA (it was clear I wasn't staring). And I SWEAR TO GOD, as I was looking down, I took a quick peak and SHE WAS LOOKING DEAD AT ME. I FREAKED THE HELL OUT AND casually looked back at the middle screen. Not only that, but it kinda happened A COUPLE OF TIMES. I HONESTLY NEVER FELT MORE PANICKED.

I think it might be some type of hyper-vigilance that some skaters tend to have when they are in situations where they are recognized and approached often.

In the middle of the Men's SP, I decided to head to the concourse real quick, so I got up out of my seat and started walking toward the aisle with the stairs. As soon as I did this, a blonde girl from the next section over swung her head around to look at me... and I was thinking, "Girl, what are you thinking at??" But then I noticed it was Tanith Belbin, sitting next to Charlie!

I did not expect how easy it was to randomly run into these athletes! I was walking to the arena from the mall and Mariah Bell just appears next to me. I saw Carly Gold about a dozen times. Almost hit Charlie White while I was walking (didn't expect him to be shorter than I). Other skaters as well...

About Yulia, since I sat front row, I only thought I would see her when she enters (which was REALLY close, about a few feet in front of me). (NOTE: try not to call her name or bother her before warm-up and skate. People next to me received the ultimate death stare because they did that ) But when she sat down in the stands, you could tell she just wanted to relax and cheer on her fellow skaters (she actually had to leave a few times because crowds were starting to form.) Your reasoning's probably more likely, but I wasn't constantly staring at her though. I was actually watching the replays on the big screen and BAM!! It was still pretty awesome either way but you can't take that away from me:laugh:

I had that same 'problem'. There were a handful of skaters I kept running into CONSTANTLY every day. Get in the elevator, they are there. Walk through the arena, they are there. Walk back to the hotel, they are either in front of me or behind me. I think Brian Orser was walking behind me on the way back to the hotel for at least 5 minutes before I realized it was him, only because I heard his voice and recognized it. I couldn't go anywhere without tripping over Eteri and Sergei. I swear they must have been running back and forth between the rink and the hotel at least 30 times a day.

I give you props for looking up those interviews Alba, but please tell me - do you recall an interview where she said that after many hours of training, she was fed up with her music?
I'm so sure I read it somewhere, it's killing me!

Yes she did said she couldn't stand the music after hearing it and skating for a week. I think it's somewhere between October or November pages, when she was asked again about her season and programs. Probably it's after CoC, the interview she gave to Tatiana Flade?

Such boring choreography. One just and a bunch of repetitive movements. But Marina shouldn't be sexualizing a child no mater how mature someone is.

Didn't Marina said that the Ex. was Yulia's choice?

Hi everyone! It's my first time posting, I've been a lurker lol but wanted to share my views on Yulia because I'm such a huge figure skating fan since I was little, and she's my favorite female skater now. I've been following her since 2013 and I have not given up on her. I've seen a lot of harsh comments on her skating since last season (on other forums or threads), like she's over, she can't do anything else, she's boring... but I don't think so... I think every skater has their own time to grow up and she's still young, and I absolutely love her long program music this season and she has definitely improved her artistry. I agree with someone who posted that this may be mental, she needs to regain her confidence. I'm really happy that she hasn't given up!! :cheer:

Welcome to the board! Post long and often :cheer:
She desperatly needs to have a clean FP this season, maybe next GP event is a good place for that.

Welcome! :hb:

I can't stand all this chitchat about Averbuch, Eteri, Eteri's daughter, Medvedeva, Tara Lipinski etc.... Really, I can't stand people who talk continuously about it, exaggerate the thing, making it a crucial world's problem with international conspiracy and so on... Please everybody, cut it out. Let's see what Yulia is ACTUALLY doing. She's struggling because she's growing into a (WONDERFUL ) woman and she needs a lot of work to overcome this problem. This is the reality. But every girl has to do this step during the life, so it's nothing impossible or tragic. She'll understand it (if people stop to talk about trash things) and at the end she'll be so pleased that every little victory will give her a bigger pleasure than everything else from the past. That's the message that we have to send to Yulia. Not imaginary problems that don't help anyone.

Here's one of the comments on one of Yulia's recent instagram photo from someone who was there at SA:
alkaid.weiyuyang: When Zhenya was late to the SP warm up, Yulia kept looking back and trying to find her. After her Gala, Coach Eteri kept encouraging her despite this was a really light program compared to her usual routines. Yulia is improving and everyone loves her.

They may not be friends or bffs, but I honestly don't believe that these two girls, who pretty much grew up and trained alongside one another for the last 6+ years are hostile towards one another, let alone picture Eteri chitchatting with Tara about her students feuding (I legitimately fail to see the logic of Eteri saying any of this, as it would be to her own detriment if she did). Perhaps to those bystanders who watched them train during practice before competition might've noticed that they weren't talking to one another, but honestly....who does?!! Yulia's intense, introverted demeanor may make her an easy target, but really...how rarely do you see competitors talk to one another during practice or before a competition when they are far too busy focusing and stressing about their own performances.

As for Averbukh....I've come across more megalomaniac film directors and dance choreographers with more public-professionalism and tact than this one. In this and some of his previous interviews, he comes of as a schadenfreude, who's overall tone borderlines on 'I told you so'-gloating. I have no idea how things work in the skating world, but IMO it should be within a 'paying' skater's right to change his or her choreography if and when they want (whatever the reason might be), as it should also be within their right to change choreographers when they wish to try something new, as since it's part of the learning process (as an example, dancers are often encouraged by their teachers and professional choreographers to work, train and take classes with as many choreographers as possible to learn and gain more professional and/or educational experience). Professionally speaking, Yulia was both student, collaborator and client to Averbukh. As a student, she learnt a lot from him, and he brought out of her one of the most beautiful, understated, nuanced performances I have ever seen...period. As a collaborator, Yulia should also take credit for pulling off these performances, not to mention Schindler's List/the girl in the red coat was her idea that she stubbornly insisted on, despite everyone's objections. And as a client, it is absolutely within her right for her to not perform programs that she is not comfortable with, and work with other choreographers if she want, since it is she and/or her sponsors who are the ones forking out the money. Yulia is working with Zueva, Elena with Morozov, Liza with Lambiel, etc etc.....whether or not the end result prove to be successful or fruitful, is done at their own choice and risk. But again, it is perfectly normal for them to want to try new things and gain experience outside of what they are use to. So really Ilia, get over yourself.

You know what? People, and especially fans here, are spending too much time talking about these "extra" things instead of focusing on Yulia.

I want to talk about Yulia's performance and reactions. She said that during training she's way better than during competitions. It's because she's losing a bit of confidence and I think the main reason is the Lutz. She has trained the Lutz during summer but I think she's still not ready to bring it in competition. And this insecurity reflects on every other jump (where she usually had never problems). I know that in Russia if you don't have the "whole package" you can't shine, but right now Yulia doesn't need to do enormous things to shine. She has to focus on her strong points, and her 2A+3T is beautiful and seems "easy". Why not doing this combo twice on the second half like Miyahara?
Is it a shame if she put the "solo" triples at the beginning? Obviously not. I think without the "obsession" for the Lutz she can perform an easier Flip and bring back the Loop. She needs a clean skate to regain confidence. Once she has it again, she can push herself higher again. Will it be enough this year for Russian standards? I think not, but she still has so many years ahead. Look at what Adelina and Liza has done (but also Mao and Carolina). She has the best examples in her "family" :)

Here's the story:
I was sitting front row right where the skaters enter the rink. So I already saw her up-close a few times...So after she did her free skate I thought she was going to go back to her hotel and rest and that was it for me (I didn't go to the EX today. I went to Notre Dame and tomorrow U-M to check it out).

So Free Dance started 3 hours later, and who shows up? YULIA and a few others...but YULIA. I was thinking about approaching them, but they were there to enjoy the event like the rest of us, so it was better to just let them be. But still so cool! Now here's the interesting part:

There was the standard huge screen in the middle of the arena, and there were smaller screens at each corner...So "coincidentally" I was looking at the screen right over my view of YULIA (it was clear I wasn't staring). And I SWEAR TO GOD, as I was looking down, I took a quick peak and SHE WAS LOOKING DEAD AT ME. I FREAKED THE HELL OUT AND casually looked back at the middle screen. Not only that, but it kinda happened A COUPLE OF TIMES. I HONESTLY NEVER FELT MORE PANICKED.

If that would have happened to me I no joke would have fainted between my low blood pressure and the elegance of our queen Yulia

I think 2 2A-3Ts are perfectly doable for her as her 2A looks much better this season than her previous seasons but the judges are going notice it and compare it to her fellow ladies. If you have ladies like Anna P doing 3Lz-3T and a 3Lo-1Lo-3S in the same long program the judges more likely to favour a clean Anna over a clean Yulia. They really like those big elements. Satoko is slowly clawing her way up with the 2 2A-3Ts, it's hard for Satoko internationally but Yulia's competition in Russia is unlike anything else:hopelessness:

Based on Evgenia, they are not enemies and get along fine, off ice as well.

In my opinion,

Julia needs to be given a break from all the trash talking that happens right now. People can be so rude, especially the internet it´s just not nice.

I love the way she controlled her iSpin at the end of her Ex. She just shows so much finesse and mastery when she slows it down and releases her arms and slowly does a bit more of the spin with her arms fully free of the vortex before she drifts out on a slow edge. She's learned to slow down all her movements to create such a unique flow. It's soft like water trickling down a brook and free like a ribbon floating in the breeze.

I don't care what anyone says.....her Leningrad StSeq is amongst the best in ladies skating this season. Considering how busy CoP programs are these days it's nice to see a StSeq that flows and isn't just checking off the requirements with little purpose or done at a brisk pace.

I am also especially fond of this step sequence!

Hello. Just a word, if A WORD can be said, about her EX.
First I was ..... then ....:jaw:. and finally .....:clap:
That was NOT just an ex ... that was a STATEMENT, a break with the past, right in front of your face! If last year the perf was “nun” style (I had a problem with the umbrella:confused2:), this was SUPERB! Racy, bold, whatever, let her BE. The Tempo of the music and the Choreo: superb. The repetitions: loved them. Movements punctuating the words, really daring.

3 performances this year SP/LP/EX each different from the another ... I think US is a good place for her. And Zueva, too.

Confidence will come back.
