Yulia Lipnitskaya

In that vein - what about Salvation?:) :

ETA - Or... music with a little more strength, yet might suit Julia - how about

Colin Frake?

Even better, more mature. I love both but yep, Colin Frake it's beautiful. Actually you gave me another idea for a video. Thanks. ;)

Though I probably should stop now - I'm tempting you into highjacking the thread into a TSFH discussion.:)

Don't worry, not much else to talk till RN.

Watching Rostelecom made me happy watching Yulia's reactions towards Lena's skating:) I like it so much that among top athletes there's a real friendship. Liza&Lena&Yulia:agree::love:

Hi this is my first time commenting. My name is Ana and im confused. I was reading in nbc sports that both yulia and max aaron are waiting to see what happens at nhk. What needs to happen to see yulia in the grandprix final?

Some serious fails would have to go down. I think it's possible but Anna and Satoko would have to WD or finish well off of the podium. I think she is better off not going to GPF anyway and instead focusing on practicing with her new coach and Russisn Nationals. Nationals could save the season for her if she delivers.

Welcome to GS!! Post often. Love Julia

The outlook is even more dire than that. The current updated standings show Yulia sitting at #6 going into NHK:

http://www.isuresults.com/events/gp2015/gpsladies.pdf

Since Asada and Wagner both already have gold, they need only place in the top 8 at NHK to finish ahead of Yulia, and that would already place her out of the final. I can't envision any scenario where either of these ladies could do that badly, and at the same time, Miyahara and/or Pogorilaya couldn't get on the podium instead...

It's going to take some time for her to adapt to her new coach, so it's probably best if she doesn't have any more disruptions before Nationals. Glass half full...

Most probably they confused her with Liza.

Welcome Ana. Glad to have you here.

Most probably they confused her with Liza.
It is difficult to imagine NBC committed such a crime. If they did they should be sued. (:p just joking)

Seriously, please correct me if I am wrong: I think NBC is the only big channel (amongst ABC, CBS, and Fox) in the US that still broadcasts figure skating events on their primary channel (so that people do not need to pay sports channels to watch). I am sure figure skating programs do not generate huge profits like NFL (American Football). I actually appreciate NBC brings figure skating this way to average Americans who do not normally watch this sport.

NBC broadcasts the ISU events and U.S Nationals, yes. ABC broadcasts non-competitive figure skating events relatively frequently. And CBS is scheduled to broadcast coverage of the new international event Team Challenge Cup later this season.

Hi! I'm also new here I was shocked about Yulia changing her coach cuz Eteri has been with her for long time... Do u think the new coach will work by fixing some jumping techniques for Yulia?

I'm also afraid that the new coach will change Yulia's style. Her body movements have some kind of poise that no other skaters have. (The kind of body movememts that you can recognise immediately without seeing her face) But the poise seems to have diminished especially after her changing of choreographer from Ilia Averbukh to Marina Zueva. I like her previous programmes (Schindler's list, megapolis) much better than this season's, not only the music and routine, but also the expressions and artistry, the old programmes just seem to have more contents and suit her style better.

I'm still uncertain about the coach thing, Yulia said that Eteri focuses more on on Evgenia Medvedeva, so I guess it's good to have a new coach with more attention on her. But I definitely want Yulia to have another choreographer that can produce something truly matches her style, instead of 'trying sth new' like Marina Zueva did with her.

Where did Yulia say this? I know she has said she wanted more ice time and attention from a coach, but I wasn't of the impression she'd ever said Etri focused more on Evgenia than her.

Welcome eyeshrift. I guess many have mixed feelings on Yulia's move. I choose to trust her judgement and hope for the best.

My guess is that, if Yulia can secure her technical elements (e.g., jumping with confidence and with consistency), she will be able to develop better artistic expressions. She was so good partially because she needed to worry little about her technical elements.

I too like her Schindler's List. After all, that program is why and when I fell in love with her skating. IMO, Yulia needs to really feel the music she skates to. Schindler's List was chosen and insisted by her. I got really nervous whenever I sense she does not fully feel the music or she is forced to accept a music.

One of the things that a lot of people have said for a while about Eteri is her number of students and the negative thing about it being that she is likely unable to give each skater the attention that they actually need. At least with her new coach she is his main student and his first/only 'big name' skater, so his attention will most likely be 100% focused on helping Yulia - which is a good thing, one thing she said about when she came to the US for training with Marina is that she got so much more ice time than she did in Moscow.

instead of 'trying sth new' like Marina Zueva did with her.

I don't think it was necessarily attempting to have something new - Yulia has attempted to do music that was from the country/culture of where Worlds is that season; last year her original intention for the FS was going to be Mulan, she went to CoC and Worlds was going to be in China as well; this year she went to SA and Worlds is in Boston.

I also can't remember her saying anything like that. And Wikipedia often posts the inaccurate information. By the way, I can't find these words in the Wiki page anymore, too...

I'm not sure who is responsible for that, but I agree, for instance - she worked in off-season on improving her fabulous spin, what resulted in adjusting her head position to create stunning perfect teardrop spinning shape, but would you agree, that it would look much better if she let her leg go sooner, like at test skates?
Is that extra rotation necessary?
- she is drastically losing the speed and fluency of movement,
- it's not estethically pleasing (she looks like holding her aking knee tbh.:rolleye:)
I know she has been probably concentrating on her jumps more atm., bur these little details were always Julia's forte and she needs to use them to her advantage in my opinion.

Time will tell if this change will work in Yulia's favor. Good luck for her.
By my side, I can't expect to see Yulia and Urmanov in the K&C area. :)

Yes! It works best when Yulia loves and feels her music! Her music for this season is great and I really like Leningrad but Yulia doesn't seem to connect to them as much as she did to previous choices. I remember a commentator on NBC saying that her original choice was Moonlight Sonata, another masterpiece, but her choreographer recommended the current pieces. I really hope she can insist on her own choice and bring something brilliant next season.
