Yulia Lipnitskaya

While charmed by the photos with the lioness cub, must say that this isn't wise on a number of levels... The world lobby against petting zoos / sanctuaries is very strong as inhumane and I agree 100%. "Tribe of the Tiger" by field biologist Elizabeth Marshall Thomas explains EXACTLY why this should not be done.
That said: Yulia's comment about Hanyu made me smile.

I agree too but who knows what the actual story behind this is. The fact is Julia loves animals and you can also see the Sochi Ice Palace in the background so this one was close to her in Sochi. For all we know they were planning on transporting the cub somewhere else or were bringing it there and Julia got a once in a lifetime chance to meet the lioness while it was subdued for transportation or for other medical reasons. I can say for 100% that Julia was only acting out of love for the animal and I'd be surprised to learn that a lover of animals as strong as herself would do anything to harm them. Just my opinion.

Hi Sam. Thanks for responding to my post.
And you are correct as far as it goes.. Yulia is famous and admirable for her love of animals and I can see her combining skating with this advocacy in coming years. My concern is not that she would do harm - that never crossed my mind; my concern is the animal's (read "big cat") ability to do harm, however small... Drugging said animals so humans can handle them is against ethical standards and handling fully conscious big cats is dangerous. The opening line in the work I suggested reads: "The story of cats is a story of meat, and begins with the dinosaurs". The hunt is instinctive and cats will turn on a dime! My post was meant to say "err on the side of caution".
PS. I would add it is my hope Yulia's love of animals turns to advocacy down the road; she does and could do a world of good toward preserving species for future generations. Again, many thanks for listening.

I also really miss it! Maybe it will make a Nationals comeback
Didn't she make a comment on how she prefered the new black dress, that she felt more like a woman with it than with the rainbow one? I understand how she felt.
Or maybe she'll just keep the black dress for international competitions... if she managed to be selected, considering the blood bath Russian Nationals is going to be.

An exchange about the lion cub on ask.fm:

...

Q: I think a lioness bite will give you new strength!
A: You really think so?

Q: Perhaps Hanyu should bite you too, just to be sure? :))
A: But for that I'd have to carry him around in my arms first :P

And a bonus:

Q: Yul', how do you manage to keep your nails so long? Give me an advice please.
A: Try not to gnaw on them

Thanks for translating!

Hanyu's part makes me  Julia sure got wit!
And kudos for whoever asked her about it too haha.

Random ask about nails lol. But she does have long nice fingers/nails no wonder it sparks some sort of envy haha. Sorry if this is kinda OOT.

Btw, I love the friendly and funny banters here I wish I have more time visiting and commenting. But even if I don't (post) I'll make sure to always keep a look out on this thread, especially when there's a competition she's in. Always wish her the best and I'm happy that she seems to be at ease and enjoying his new environment. Hope she'll be able to channel it into her fighting spirit and performance. :2thumbs:

I did notice previously that Yulia gnaws her finger nails sometimes like many super smart people do.
Really appreciate the translation.

Oops.
I wrote the question in the Ask. The one is now the last.
I offered Julia a music cut. I spied an idea here in this topic:).
I listened to this music hundred times. It's perfect for her.
But I want to send is not cutting music.
I want to send video because I analysed the execution of technical elements in the SC and Leningrad.
I think all the jumps, spins, CHSq perfectly matches a musical structure.
And I would like to make a video.
What program are you use for merging a sound and parts of other video?
It seems that Sam-Skwantch was doing good clips.
PS. Sorry for my language

I use Sony Vegas but I'm sure there are simpler programs for free out there. I think YouTube has its own video editor although I've never used it. I bet if you download the video to your computer you can upload it to the YouTube editor and simply change the music. Maybe not.

Yulia just said in her Ask that she's got a few music proposals already, but she will start evaluating them after her last competition [she means for this season, probably].

Since you're a beginner, start with movie maker. It's free and it's already installed in your computer, probably. If not download it from microsoft web. It's simple and it's okay for the basics. I did my videos using movie maker. After you get familiar with the basics you start with other programs, like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere (the best IMO), who are more sofisticated and have much more features and effects. Youtube editor it's useless.

Just rewatched Sochi's team SL for the 100th time. This is the best I've ever seen in FS, ever...

I'll never forget that day either but watching the live feed during her win at Euros was epic. I literally jumped up and down for the girl. I think she said she skated at 200% that day.

Not saying I'm right and one is better than the other or anything...just sharing my thoughts.

I feel the same. I'm a bit more attached to her performance at Euros also. I was so happy that day too.

Europeans definitively!!!! Best perf for more reasons: she was the last to go, she missed the combo saving her 2axel at the beginning, then did it at the end, and she was so fully emotional...and if you watch it and Hear the comments from Around the world (english brit euro, paloma del rio for spain) you hear silence until the explosion of emotion at the very end ...not to mention that THIS perf brought me back to figure skating.

Interview with Tutberidze on Russian TV:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtIsz5UgWcA

From the images and from what little I can pick up, Yulia is definitely discussed, if anyone is able to translate.

There isn't much to be gained from this interview. The reporter is not very professional, does not get facts right, and Eteri is having a hard time discussing Yulia. She is also rather obviously hurt. The main reason for the separation, according to Eteri, is that Julia has lost trust in her and they sort of just drifted away and no longer understood each other.

Yeah, and she said it happened gradually and started some time ago. Also, at one point she says "I can forgive everything. One thing I won't understand is when an athlete doesn't want to train and compete". She doesn't specify anything, so it's not clear if she's talking about Yulia or if she's just saying something general. There's a partial transcript of the interview in Russian over here http://news.sportbox.ru/Vidy_sporta...se_shlo_k_tomu_chto_my_rasstanemsa_s_Lipnicko
