Thank you both. I think Yulia was happy with the fact that her skate went as well as she wanted it to go. And while Elena usually is the happiest of the bunch, even outgoing people like herself have their somber days.

It's a small edge, but it certainly makes them even in the BV area.

I know shed want to get to that point I meant right now since it's hard for her in the second half. Just to get on the team it would have been smarter to tack the combinations onto the first 2 jumps since they were the most stable. Planning the 2T after the second 3Lz was a bad idea because even if she didn't pop it the landing might have been unstable. The 2 3T were supposed to be after the 2A in the second half. That was a bad plan from the get go when she working back up to her old content. The same way doing 2 3F up to this point were bad ideas.

EDIT: she did a 3L at GPF last year too. But nothing like this one.

In practice run she did a great 3L-3T which in the second half is worth as much as a 3Lz-3T in the first half.

Well, I took out one of the 3T only when Sam mentioned the 3F+1L+3S, because then she would have already two triples being repeated, salchow and lutz. And she had to tack that 2T after the second lutz otherwise it would lose BV because of being a repetition. However, I don't know how her training is going on, so as I said before, we are going to know the full layout when she actually land all the jumps.

Anyway, if she landed the layout I proposed perhaps she could have scored higher than Pogorilaya, especialy because it seemed to me that the judges would give it to her. But just putting the two 3T in any of the other jumps wouldn't put her past the fifth place. Not much better than she already is at right now. But there's the Russian Cup in february, her chance to make the Worlds team. It's a good lenght of time to see how much she can improve.

A little late, but I was so happy Julia did Megapolis at the ex. It's my favorite program of hers b/c I feel it shows her most natural musicality. The step sequence is just great.
I'm actually pretty confident she can put out a clean LP in a competition later this season; nationals gave me a lot of hope for that. Obv. it wasn't even close to clean here, but the 2A3T combo is generally easy for her and most of the triples seemed sure.
TBH I don't love the LP itself that much (but the step sequence is nice), but I think it could look great if she had more speed and a little more forcefulness.

Using the layout that was executed at Nats if there was a 3T on the 3L and and 2T on the first regardless of the rest remaining the same a popped Lz, only a 2T after the 2A and a flawed landing on the other 2A her score would have been about 205-206. 200.84 + (1.00) in GOE and (2.00-3.00) in PCS. While this still has her finishing in 4th/5th (4th of the age-eligible competitiors) I think this would have been enough that they would have gone with Yulia for the team and Anna as the first alternate because unlike last season she did not have international results that were significantly better than Yulia.

I know its an academic excercise but unlike the SP which has been her strength for the past 2 seasons and therefore putting the combination later was not an enormous risk, putting 2 -3T combinations in the second half of the LP when they did not have enough time to work at it (in a interview she said they focused mostly on the SP) was way too much of a risk too soon. I think so anyway. (But my opinion doesn't really matter. :)

The new changes in the Russian Nationals program are really evident when you see this. The other 3 performances are almost perfectly in sync most of the time, while the Nats performance always seems to be doing its own thing.
 
Q: Are you sure Chopa is a girl, she looks a bit like a tomcat?

3L-3T (it is reported that Yulia went for this combo in FS practice session)
3Lz
3S
3F ( when Lip was a junior her flip was superb, at these days it is shaky so it is hard to believe it can be in combination :/)

2a-1loop-2S (at SA this year she actually did this combo)
3Lz (looks risky man!!!)
2a-3T (she did 2a-2t at RN)

5 triples jumps should be in the first half: that may be a smart plan seeing that Yulia (probably having stamina issues) has been struggling in the second half for two years.
Moreover planning two 2a combos may be a wise choice too: even if her 2a is not that big it is stabile and secure indeed. Using it so like a solo jump would be such a waste :P

I don't think they are going for 3Z+REP in the second half. And I don't know about the 2A+1L+2S, because it seemed more to me like an aftertought at SA.

I would love to see her doing a 3L+3T in competition, though. Her loop was gorgeous at RN, and almost like a miracle comeback in her FS.

EDIT: maybe she went back to the 3Z+2T+2T she did in the second half of the program back in the Olympic season.

Probably the same idiots who killed the "Mulan" idea. Damn. I indeed wonder who these people are. If there are any Japanese fans reading this, I bet they would be pissed.
 
I admit a Geisha program is not the first thing to come into my mind for Yulia either. The display of a Geisha is very formalistic, while Yulia tends to be the exact opposite, very individual and not by the rules. Then again she was always able to overcome any stereotypes in her previous roles and performed them very convincingly with a personal touch. She might be able to come up with a very unique and remarkable interpretation of a Geisha indeed. Her current top priorities should be her jumps and her competition anxiety though.

Oh no.. who told her it's not her thing when the one supposed to know it the best is herself. :mad: Moreover, I think it's important that a skater is able to do/try what they wanna do and especially if they like their choice/music, it can help them connect and live the program too. (though it may also depend on whether it's nicely/well created or not)
I do think she's interested and open in exploring more styles (like how she accepted the Elvis program style). Let's hope that she'll be able to show us the different side of her in the upcoming years. :agree2:
