Yulia Lipnitskaya

Can someone who watched it translate what they said? I think it's crucial to know.

i suck as lip reading, so just the parts after music went off:

Alexei: you are going to skate?
Yulia: Yes
Alexei: Go skate
Yulia: from what point?
Alexei: 3:08? Its probably the spiral
Alexei: you'll find by music, go skate

Then i think he keeps asking her if she will skate and she keeps saying yes

Alexei: don't be afraid, its the end of the program, just 3 elements left

Neither of them seemed to know exactly what to do. But if there's one thing you can see is that they are together in this, and she never wanted to give up. This warms my heart - I teared up reading the words. It's good to know that there was no argument over this, it was just two people trying to do the best thing at the moment, but they just didn't want to back down, and this gives me hope.

I don't actually get why it was so important to finish it? Maybe if she wouldn't finish it she would get disqualified ? So thats why she finished it ?

I feel sorry that she has to go through such a dramatic moments in her sport career, but hopefully this will not be serious injury. She can have 1-2weeks rest and time for recovery and then she can still make good results on russian nationals.

It's just a part of skaters etiquette of sorts to always finish your programs whenever you possibly can. It has to do with not allowing yourself a though that you can bail out on your programs midway when it gets hard, because at high level it's always hard, and skating with this type of thought will make you fall apart after smallest mistake. Children are being taught that from the youngest age, and top level skaters all have that ingrained into their minds. They wouldn't be top level skaters otherwise.

Sure, but that's why I think it's up to the coach to stop a skater or at least do their very best to discourage them from continuing in such a situation. It would have been a different thing IMO if she'd been going for the GPF, or even if she'd still had any chance of meadaling (though even then I'd have favored her stopping to be honest). This is a recurring knee injury. A knee injury. It's not like she had a bloody nose or a headache or even like she fell and injured herself right then. This is a recurring knee injury. This is a potentially very serious and dangerous and even in a worst case scenario career ending situation. I'm sorry but I don't think she should have continued or been allowed to even make that call by her coach.

Yes, still thats not how it works (remember Hanyu skating at CoC)
At least here, yulia sounded like she was determined to skate, and to make her leave the arena someone would have to drag her or something like that, and not sure this is how things work with adults.

I can understand why it shocks us, but in the end, Yulia must do what she NEEDS to do to answer to herself. Perhaps it helped her get back some dignity she felt she lost. Most importantly, it must be her choice. Tbh, injuries like these are so familiar, they happened often during practice. It is a shame that it plagued her at a most importune time, but she was probably trying to build up her own courage and determination to continue. I wouldn't be too upset - she has to do it her way to exit the rink. She didn't want to limp off but go down with a fight.

RusFed director Kogan says it was a cramp. Thank you lord in heaven. :drama:
If it's truth, I think it may be caused by intensive physical training and/or diet and may not affect the rest of the season.

She better get a full medical examination just to make sure. Especially considering her back injury from before. Oh Yulia, you stubborn/foolish/brave girl, I don't EVER want to see you skate whilst hurt or injured again! Get well soon <3 :sad46:

This is a recurring knee injury.
Has this been confirmed? Because I was under impression that nobody is quite sure what it was yet.

Anyway, I don't think skaters need to be treated like boxers that will literally die in a ring unless their coach throws a towel. As much as skaters want to finish their programs when they can, they have enough reason in them to understand the moment when they can't.

It's possible the knee was over-worked from compensating for the back.

Hopefully it's nothing serious where she can do some Senior B's and be ready for Nationals/Euros/Worlds.

Well, let's hope it's just a cramp and the worst is over - though, it's good that Urmanov said they are staying in Moscow for check ups. I do think each time she competes there's more pressure on her to get out of this funk, so I would like her to go to some less important competitions before RN, if she can, of course. From what I can gather, she really wanted to get a skate out, a good one, that's probably the biggest reason why she didn't want to WD. It's not rational, and we can all agree that maybe going home to reevaluate her health would be better, but at the same time I can understand her hunger to compete well.

Can you imagine seeing an entire arena crying with her? The camera was focusing all around on people with tears in their eyes. In the same way it puts unwanted pressure on her, it shows how people love her.

Gah, I just want her to be happy. I really don't want to see her crying again like today. And I really felt she could have done it. Maybe the skating gods know better.

I'm so disappointed at the german eurosport commentators. They don't get what happened, they said that she probably had a "mental breakdown". :dev2: :disapp:

During the beginning of the Kiss&Cry Yulia was trying to keep it relatively composed, but when they cut to the live footage of different people around the arena crying, Yulia's lower chin began to tremble :sad46:....that really got to me

The shock in the arena was palpable...what a traumatizing experience for the home crowd. It was a tragedy, but nonetheless a testament to how beloved Yulia is in Russia. Even Evgenia appeared to be stunned, and no wonder Elena seemed to be affected by the drama on ice, skating after Yulia. Thank god Queen Anna came and saved the day. I wish I could enjoy her flawless performance even more, but I'm afraid my mood has been soured by heartbreak for Yulia.

Awww, this is so nice.

I am not so much worry about the knee, I think it will not be very serious. What I am afraid about is her confidence. The russian press is often very harsh on her, always speculating whether she is able to come back on her previouse level or not. And also this feeling of not being able to succesfully complete the FS even at Nepela trophy. She knows she need to skate finally good FS. But all that preasure is not really wanted now before nationals. I hope she will cope with that.

Her coach is a complete idiot. That makeup and such irresponsible attitude with an obvious serious problem
