I think that they’ll go with those who consistently show high results, because there’s more chance that they’ll deliver at Worlds. Even if Liza does 3A at Nationals there’s no guarantee that she’ll do it at Worlds, and without it she isn’t likely to medal. Considering that Yulia withdrew from SA because of injury and then could barely finish her LP at COR and hasn’t shown high results since the Olympic season, I think they’ll be more likely to choose somebody who seems healthy and has been showing consistently high results this season. If two of the four Russian GP finalists bomb at both GPF and Worlds, Yulia and Liza might have a chance if they skate well at Nationals. But otherwise the judges will likely put three of the GP finalists on the podium at Nationals (after all, both GOEs and PCCs are pretty flexible). But, of course, that’s just my thinking of how they’ll act. We’ll see.
Yes, last year there were only two Russian GP finalists, but three berths to Euros and Worlds, so one more lady got a chance. I’ve read in the Wikipedia article on Yulia that during the pre-Olympic season she was age-eligible for some senior competitions (like GP), but not for Euros and Worlds.
If you’re asking not which scheme the Russian Federation is more likely to adopt, but which scheme we think national federations should adopt, that’s a different question. Personally I wouldn’t venture an ironclad rule either way. I think it should be done on a case by case basis. But again that’s just my opinion.
Yes, this is ridiculous, especially considering how beautiful she is in reality. She was always a pretty girl but I didn't expect her to grow into such a beautiful woman.
