Yulia Lipnitskaya

From the FSO insider (unverifiable, of course):

"Urmanov is not to blame for Yulia's health problems. These problems are 5 years old already. And about her "underground" manner you know already. She just endures silently. She endures workloads, any workloads, but her organism can't, and it refuses to cooperate. Now the root causes of her problems are clear and she will take time to heal, as much as necessary. Only afterwards she will decide what to do with her life."

Lipnitskaya has this kind of innate, distinctive grace, that makes her presence so elegant, almost aristoctatic, if you know what I mean. She's not "in your face", but rather up there on the ice for you to "discover" her.
It's completely different than let's say Adelina and Elena, who are wonderful, super attractive performers, but lacking that special mystique and aura, that Julia has.
I'm pretty sure some people like it that way, some the other - personally, I find Julia "reserved" skating endlessly fascinating.

It is incredible that Russia has so many girls with option to medals but for me no one stand up, contrary to Yulia.
Polina T. is an exception but she is dealing with her growth and injury.

well hopefully her organism will get cooperative. anyways i said before she should just take next season off to improve her technique and "learn to let go," which i think is her main problem, as she stresses herself too much. maybe her thinking is aligning with mine here. she isn't too old for the next quad. there is a prevailing sentiment around that established russians (tuk, radio, sot...) are over-the-hill, when really they just peaked early. tuk, radio, sot, etc can come back and be contenders anytime. mature skating & solid technique can match immature skating & youthful technique. look at what kostner just did at euros. is everyone crying that kostner should just retire already? we simply don't know how russians will deal with aging. we also don't know that younger russians will keep coming as they have been. sochi is over, and the field is now saturated. this will surely weigh on people's minds as they decide whether to invest in new talent.

I wish Yulia would skate to this beautiful version of Once Upon a December. I can see her heartrending yet balletic motions so clearly in these notes. :sad46:

Yulia come back soon! Skating needs you...without you, I am getting bored and stir crazy. :whack:

Sounds like a classic-adapted version to the soundtack from Anastasia cartoon.
I hope for some real classical music in Yulia's programs. The world deserves to see this living perfection on ice! Let just Yulia not leave us without her. It will never be the same if she quits skating.

In the distant past she told interviewers she doesn't like classical music. Some of her choices are composed with classical detail and style, Leningrad, Schindler's List, and Megapolis. I wouldn't be shocked to hear something classical in the future and would enjoy it immensely.

She could have retired immediately after Sochi and still have had a career many other skaters, past, present, or future, could only dream of. I'm pretty sure Pyeongchang isn't happening, but then again, I am usually pessimistic by nature. Unless she calls it quits, I won't completely give up on her.

Hold that pessimism until you learn more about the December fall, you may not need it this time. Skating in competitions is fine, but the priorities are all wrong for Yulia. Maybe not for the Schindler's List Yulia, but she has been at the top of the competitive world and since then she has changed. Remember her interview last year after her work with Ekaterina Rubleva where she referred to the "trivia" of jumps consuming so much of her time? And now she feels she is a burden to Alexei. Competitions are for competitors, winners who must must must be faster, higher, bigger and later-in-the-program than they were a month ago. If that were Yulia, how many of us would be reading this? Maybe we should hope that she leaves the competitive environment in which she suffers. Set Olympnitskaya free like a Megapolis kite, and pass the Olympics torch to next year's top jock. It's not the end of this skater's world, and maybe the beginning.

Plushenko called her the little genius. So join his troupe, it will pay the rent if she has financial problems which I doubt. Who wouldn't want to see Plushenko and Lipnitskaya under one roof? Unlike competitions, shows can be shaped by the performers. With some imagination the dream duo will be rock stars. Then there is the internet. For most of us, watching skaters is limited to watching videos, and those who do attend competitions turn on the videos afterward. The internet would allow for much more than the performance, she can skate, talk, draw us into her world. For the masses, nothing can compete with the internet for intimacy and first-hand experience. Yulia is all about intimacy, genuine intimacy. The competitive arena is cold, it suffocates. Unless the December fall has crippled her, there is no reason for pessimism.

What a big surprise .... she really doesnt consider to retire?
She said before that she'd continue until the 2018 Olympics (no matter if she'll be in the team or not) and then see what to do afterwards. So we'll see if she'll retire (and switch to ice shows or something), consider switching to ice dancing (no idea if it's still in the back of her mind, she confirmed that pair was a no-no for her), or just keep skating and trying to overcome all the challenges that will come with it.
