Yulia Lipnitskaya

I'm glad she seems to be fairly well received but aren't we all a little concerned her honesty will get her in to trouble some day

I'm so biased but even though I don't understand Russian her voice sounds really natural and fitting. :yes2:

Streamed the whole thing last night through Hola (if for any of you folks are outside of Russia and need a Russian vpn, it works fine). Was so pleased that Yulia (and her co-commentator) did not talk ‘over’ the performances, leaving all their comments either before or afterwards. Did anyone notice Yulia hardcore fangirling over Carolina? :luv17: Also, that Mao Rachmaninoff mention had me like... :hap93:.

So happy for Yulia :yay: Congratulations to her with quite a successful commentator's debut! I couldn't watch it live, but I hope some archived videos would appear. To be honest, I was wary about how her first experience in this new activity would work out - but judging by the users' comments, Yulia has enchanted everyone again :)

I haven't seen her commentary myself yet, but FSO users are praising her commentary. She's actually a great commentator, apparently.

The users of sports.ru (and it's a ferocious and scarcely moderated site) are praising her commentary, too. Everyone say that for a newbie commentator it was very good; even those who were rather skeptical before the event about her ability or readiness to be a commentator are pleased. The very rare occasional yaps of haters are miserably neglected by everyone and go unnoticed

The things that people especially point out are that she doesn't talk during the skaters' performances and how friendly and warmly she speaks about the other skaters. One of the users even wondered jokingly if she had taken a couple of lessons from Ted Barton :) That user said that he feels smth in common in their styles of commenting.

Fangirling over Carolina. I'm not surprised. They've got history and all

At this point I somehow envision Yulia as the next TAT. I won't be surprised if she goes on to coach someone and become a commentator at the same time 😉😉

This is Denis, a football commentator. A rather pleasant young man. This was his first time commenting figure skating. Yulia even made fun of him by saying "someone was reading Wikipedia all night" :)

This Denis irritated me so much that I almost instantly decided to switch to TAT/Grishin/Trankov, for which I had to install Firefox.
Yulia was not bad for a beginner, but there's a lot of room to make her speech more interesting.

I'd be really interested to know her thoughts on Evgenia! The video of her performance ft. Yulia's commentary (YouTube) doesn't have any subtitles and I don't speak Russian :(

These are all I found:

I asked in another thread and they said she was nice. Said when she took the ice ice there was no doubt it was her because of the crowd reaction and that she delivered as expected. During the replays she said no one is surprised she executed so well.

I'll focus on Yulia's words:

- The audience makes it clear... (who's stepping on the ice)
- Two last seasons... (winning everything)
- Mostly Japanese supporters are bringing banners...

after the skate

- Now, it's gonna be record. Most likely...
- That's what we call "start +" - in trainings not everything was flawless, in short skate everything was ideal...
- Cascade 3F-3T...
- (Dude: "Julia, there is no sense in commentating this, it's perfectly executed" :whack:)
- Oh yeah? So you know how it's called?
- (Dude: "Yeah, I'll better close my mouth")
- Yep, that was for big +
- Triple Loop...
- Double axel off tough entrance, with hand over the head...
??? (can't understand)
???
- Yes, season's best, 80.75!
- Nobody doubted it... (that Med will win SP)
- Evgenia Medvedeva leads, Carolina Kostner in second, Wakaba Higuchi in third...
- Dude: That's what you expected?
- Yes, I mean, I planned two Russian skaters at the top... (laugh)
- Dude: There is still chance for them...
- Of course, just look... There is only 1 point to the 3rd place...
- Free always decides, like in all other sport disciplines... figure skating disciplines.

Please fill above gap if you may.

Yulia: I can't remember these words there in the middle of the program before...
Denis: Yes, there was some strange "come back". Maybe a technical error?
Yulia: I think it's... They'll tell us in an interview.
Denis: Maybe it was planned so.

P.S. I thought you are Russian. :)

Subtitles appear for me :hap85:
Great job from YT user Katia K! :clapper:

Did she mean that loud shout? I havent noticed that before indeed.

I've been listening to Joshua Bell since May when I learned that Evgenia used his music for her program. So, I notice that shout every time. :)

In the warmup video, at some point (4:53) Yulia said "Radionova mother and her father" but that man is not her father. Dont' know if her parents got divorced.
