Yulia Lipnitskaya

I'm not sure if she's on site or at a studio, but I don't think they're dating anymore, I saw some photos of him with another girl a while ago

I wish Yulia peace and happiness in retirement. She brought millions joy in short period of time. Shes only 19. Time is on her side where life is concerned.

Thank you so much for the translation! A girl of many words as usual...that Yulia, lol. If you find video of her commentary please share!

Yulia on ice again! Sorry for the crappy quality. She was helping a little kid at one one point <3

Some more vids over on Julbka's Instagram account; mostly of Maxim Miroshkin, Elena Ilinykh and special guest Nikita Katsalapov, with Yulia cameos here and there: https://www.instagram.com/julbka_/

reposting from Evgenia's fanfest my translation of what Yulia said on her free skate:

I think I'm slowly but surely turning into a fan of Yulia.

Thank's so much for your translations! Yulia...you would know.:sad21:

Welcome to the dark side! :dev3:

I do wonder if her and Gracies' inconsistency in competition were tied to their disease...and if they developed it in the run up to the Olympics. Both seemed to do well in the Olympic season but after it was all downhill. So sad, two of my favorites retired too soon by the same illness.

Thanks for the repost and translation. I was drawn to her story and personality first and foremost. She seems to have a very genuine approach to things and doesn’t need to twist or sugar coat things.

Have you seen “The Story of Yulia Lipnitskaya”

Welcome to this thread :yahoo:

Ugh, reading this makes me so sad. And angry.
I mean, having those two most recent examples of Yulia and Gracie is already two people too much and then you have all these other names cited.... :(

I hope that documentary that Nancy Kerrigan is priducing turns out good. I actually see people like her and Yulia, Gracie, Adam etc being vocal about it in the future and making change. But it takes so much time to even consider yourself 'recovered' and healthy again, let alone start opening up about it. That's how much it messes your life up, ugh. So there shouldn't be pressure for them to do so, it must be their choice and it might not happen for all or any of them to become voices of such a movement... but we also see how one person opening up can lead to more and more, snowballing into positive change.

This is one reason I hope Yulia becomes a coach. With the exception of Urmanov and Gubanova's coaching staff (and now Plushenko?), it seems there is a cavalier attitude throughout the profession regarding both physical and mental health. Parents are complicit (Yulia's mom was the exception, just ask Averbukh). It's the Win at Any Human Cost mentality. I see a lot of support for that mentality among contributors here. Abuse is disguised/interpreted as the austere demanding coach who knows how to get results through strictest discipline. I'm worlds apart on that one, I don't see how they keep their jobs. It's not like we don't know which coaches need supervision.

ETA Any success puts more pressure on everyone to succeed further. At the end, Yulia was so weak she couldn't get through her FS. Most everyone, iincluding myself, believed it was psychological. They opened her eyes at the clinic (where she went hoping to get back her skating career), part way through treatment they got through to her & she drew the line for good. To everyone's shock including Urmanov and mom, she retired. Then she told us about anorexia, and that is surely just the tip of a very ugly iceberg.

From the interview with Elena Ilinykh http://www.sport-express.ru/olympic...ya-s-serebrom-zagitova-zhalela-by-ee-1377149/

Q: Whose idea was it to start the Academy?
A: We discussed this with Yulia and decided to create such a project. I realize that there are doubts about us being good coaches. We are known as Olympic champions, we have no reputation as training specialists yet. But we've been through an incredible school of figuire skating, and we want the share our experience so that kids would get something more than just ice training. We argued into the nights, sometimes even fought over things, how to to organize everything better. Our distinction will be a focus on sports psychology and innovations. I think that psychology is a very important part of a coaching work. If a coach does not feel the athlet, it is a bad coach. Bad coach is worse than a bad surgeon. We want to get deep into children's fears and give them tools to deal with extreme situations, such as a case that happened to me, when my lace tore up right before going on ice. Our work with Yulia will all be on ice, from warmup to debriefings.

Q: Did you consult coaches when you developed your methods?
A: We talk with coaches all our lives, we've been through a lot ourselves, and if we need advise, we'll invite suitable specialists.

Q: It was always interesting to find out, how did you and Yulia meet?
A: I've known Yulia long before Sochi, we met at competitions. I noticed immediately that she is a girl from outer space. She is like from another planet. With iron core and a bright head. In both behavior and a way to communicate I've never met such a sensible person as Yulia. We made good contact immediately, it only got stronger with time and now we have a project together.

^^^ Now I understand the serious expressions in their promotional photos. They are on a mission. "If a coach does not feel the athlet, it is a bad coach." This will get really interesting.
