Right, they were controversial so it was quite surprising when their song Not Gonna Get Us was used at Sochi Opening Ceremony.

Well they were lucky then that they weren't put in prison like that other band called Pussy Riot or sth.I remember that there were huge protests against that all over Europe..

It's not surpising at all , it's Russian sense of humor towards the West about the lesbian rights. Nothing could've happened to the girls from T.A.T.U. They were just singers(their manager created this image for them and according to their interviews he used them). The others are not very goot at singing they went to far by protesting in a chirch(which is forbidden by the law), that's why they went to prison(if you ask me they must go for their bad singing too,lol). I don't know why we're talking about such untalanted people on Yulia's thread. I've been watching FS for many(almost 30) years AND I'VE NEVER witnessed a talent like Yulia! She can move everybody from 5 years old, to 75, not a problem for her they all become her fans.

I did not find it surprising at all. On the one hand the tune was known to everyone. On the other hand, it was quite motivating for the team and the audience to show that we were to win - especially after Vancouver. It worked after all.

Right. I do remember now.
It's not my cup of tea, the music I mean, but I actually liked them.
Russian tv is full with gay. I don't think they risk anything.
Pussy Riot though are complete rubbish, IMO.

That "band" Pussy Riot came protesting naked to church... They got what they deserved. End of story.

Wow, that was cool. I don't think I've ever seen her do a back camel spin before and the spin variations were amazing.

Whoever follows classical music knows who Daniel Barenboim is.
He has served as music director of several major symphonic and operatic orchestras, and he currently is general music director of La Scala, the Berlin State Opera, and the Staatskapelle Berlin.
Now, I'm nobody compared to him (as a musician I mean), but he maybe is the only one among top directors which leaves me cold and distant.
However, I would never ever say, or even think, that he lacks musicality just because I'm not that engaged by his style, or I don't like the sound of his orchestras that much.
That would be arrogant, pretentious, and stupid.
Remarks about lack of musical feeling are aggravating, but what bothers me most is that her boundless musical qualities are barely rewarded even by judges. It is so ironic to hear that she lacks emotion and art. Little wonder she often has that "Are you for real?" expression during interviews. Such insensitive blindness among judges and critics must have a lot to do with her attitude of loyalty to her fans but avowed disregard for scores. Actually her approach is taught to talented dancers, it's what Vaganova does with great success. The utterly amazing thing is she does it naturally, spontaneously, without the benefit of training, she is a Mozart. And much more a Dudamel than a Barenboim.

Agree, I have that same feeling about Barenboim. People praise him for being a great piano also, especially for Beethoven. I just don't feel it. I like Pollini better. But to say Barenboim has no musicality is stupid.
