He's the Justin Bieber (except not a douchebag) of the fs world.

Haha there's gotta be some sort of respectable star that we can compare him to...how about the male Emma Watson of the figure skating world?

And thank you, channah! I wish all of his interviews were translated, he's always so articulate yet sort of charismatic in a sense.

Becki thanks for starting this thread. :) I have been a lurker for so long but decided to "delurk" because I want to exchange views and share insights about him with people who also think Yuzuru is simply amazing, both as a skater and as a person. I will be the first to say he is not perfect in either, but you can see he always strives to do his best and be better the next time. As we all should.

In fairness to lilahozi, the Biritish Eurosport commentators also dubbed Yuzuru as the Justin Bieber of the skating world, but that was back in 2011-2012 when the Biebs hasn't had his public meltdowns. They also called him "the bright shining star of Japanese figure skating." Now they call him "the King" of figure skating at 19. Well certainly he is skating royalty. :)

And just the other day I saw on Youtube a video where they call him "Leonardo di Caprio of the ice"
But surly I don't want him to be compared with Justin Bieber...no,this is wrong :slink:

I'm sure that he heard how important this program is for his fans (probably Nice 2012 and Sochi 2014 were the moments when most of his fans started to be fans).

You're right...I first set my eyes on him at the 2012 Worlds...after I saw his LP I was like "Oh God,this kid is great." And I also loved very much the music, the choreography , but what impressed me the most was the passion and determination he was skating with at the age of 17

For me, the first time i saw hanyu was his short program at olympic games. Because parisienne walkways is one of my favorite songs (i'm french). I wasnt able to skip this. And then i followed his skating style. I said "i must know him better".

I know what you mean. And the great thing about Yuzuru is the more you learn him about him, the more you admire him, certainly not a case of "familiarity breeding contempt."

BTW found on Youtube the Italian (Rai Sport) coverage of Yuzuru's amazing Worlds LP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjzR-T1nIIE

My Italian consists mostly of knowing the different kinds of pasta, but there is no mistaking the commentators's evident admiration for Yuzuru. The female commentators sound like they were both laughing and crying at the same time when he finished ("Fantastico!"). They were especially voluble when he saved that triple salchow near the end of the program (just like Chris Howarth). The male commentator upon viewing the replay was moved to speak in English: "In Canada, they call him [Yuzuru] Rubber Man." Indeed David Wilson, who choreographed the program, spoke of Yuzuru's "amazing elasticity." Simon and Chris remain my favorite commentators, but these Italian commentators were also entertaining :).

Hello Yuzusan
Here is a translation of the interview Yuzuru gave just before the exhibition skate of RJ1.

Y: For me this particular program is very special. It is a program about looking forward, about being able to continue to skate against the odds. Also, it is a program that many people will feel an affinity for and be a little sentimental about so I want to skate my very best for them.
K: We are looking forward to it! Thank you very much.
Y: Thank you too. "

thank you very much for translation ! :)

It's always interesting to note how much Yuzu's brillant mind is projected into the future, maybe he's even too quick for me since I'm not prepared to watch a 4A and all other quads yet , but I'm afraid I need to figure it out quickly !

Due to his actual Human Science university studies I wouldn't be surprised if Yuzu himself was very involved together with the specialists in analyzing the connection between his body's health/ nutrition/ physiology and Quad jumping techniques, like he was studying himself as a skater from a very scientific point of view.

I love so much to hear Yuzu talking about this subject, like when he described his ability to visualize a jump in his mind using a 360 degree evaluation . I remeber once he said that there are no scientific studies about ice skating yet , like there are for some more famous sports, so he could be a true pioneer in the field :).

I got to know about Yuzu just from the Olys so newbie fan here. I can say him being an inspiration to motivate one's self came at about the very right time with PhD requirements and Japanese scholarship submission taking the toll on me. This kid is really amazing! He motivates me to push myself to my limits. I am excited for the next season and his ice shows.
