Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Orser: Pooh, what do you think about Yuzu's improvement lately?
Pooh: You should tell him to drop that 4S. But he is not going to listen to you anyways.

Oh dear god I actually snorted out loud reading this in class.

No other male skater inspires the kind of fangirling that Yuzuru does. Have you seen him in Tumblr? The girls are going crazy over him.

Ah the good old days when you'd scroll through his tag and there were only around 15-20 posts at most.

I think we need a full-time translator here ;)
I regroup videos which need to translate :

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ktphs_0331-とくだね-ゆづ_sport?start=4 -> At less the begining of the video, when they talk about this injury.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1kuzah_0331every_sport just after de 5'00 .

You know, I don't know Japanese, but if someone is willing to do the translations and timing, I wouldn't mind putting the two together. We should form a Yuzu subbing team!

That's pretty easy on youtube, if you already have a timed script. You can just upload it along with the video (.SRT file)

(I occasionally transcribe and time the Britsh Eurosport commentary for Yuzuru's performances, for my wife to translate into Japanese... then she posts on youtube. The Eurosport guys are always praising Yuzuru, so a lot Japanese fans love to watch with Japanese subtitles. I'm afraid we don't have time to be doing Japanese -> English as well, for other stuff)

Lol Yuzu's a trend setter :agree: But Borser's probably like 'another one?!' :bang:

Oh a sidenote, I just saw the interview where they asked him whether or not he'll continue competing after pyeongchang and he said he's half/half right now (quoting Mao-chan)
I knew he mentioned it before that he thinks it might be too much for his body to continue past 23 but still...hearing him talk about it just breaks my heart..I'm not ready for this retirement talk ..I guess one can only hope he stays uninjured till 2018 and he'll take it from there. Till then I'll treasure every moment he's on that ice :party2:

I don't know in which age a man start to loose his flexibility, but I think Yuzuru will reach a peak of performance till 2018 and then it is unknown. Maybe after that, he will be able to do 2 quad axel in a program and less being focused on PCS. But i'm quite sure he cannot keep this type of skating with his health, at least if he reduces the rhythm of the season.

Tumblr may be going crazy over him, but it's still a great resource ;)

Thanks for the link

Thank you! How heartbreaking but I'm glad to have discovered him at the end of last year to really reap in the benefits (watching him win 3 golds) of all the ups and downs he's experienced. I've actually spent some time working back from 2010 to present day in terms of his programs and he really has gone through so much already. I think 23 would be a good age for him to depart from the sport since I wouldn't want him to be like Dai and start undergoing major surgeries. But, then again, he is super ambitious so who knows?

All I know is that his name will be up there with the greats and the figure skating world will always remember that cute Japanese skater who loved to jump and always carried a pooh bear tissue cozy to competitions.

Great interview, thanks! Thanks also to Amnos who apparently has foregone precious sleep to do the translation.

I really should not be surprised at the maturity and thoughtfulness of Yuzuru's replies. So poised and articulate! Someday I hope to read an account from his parents on how they raised such an exceptional young man.

Wise beyond his years. The way he speaks, it's like he has life figured out at the age of 19... I'm 21 and I'm still trying to figure things out! Very admirable indeed, his parents should write a book!

Well, even without writing a book, his father is a teacher, isn't he? Maybe there's already more than one lucky kid who could benefit :) I for one remember a few of my teachers who made a lasting impression.

Isn´t he the subdirector of a school? I remember reading the account from the photographer for Yuzuru biography his student?

I have never seem his father, and I will like to see his sister,. Maybe in the parade we could get to see them.

Nam like Yuzu will have new friend from next competitions:

Poor Orser to carry this all

Hahaha! This made my day! I remember reading in this thread that Orser used to make fun of Pooh when Yuzu was not his ward and now he has to carry Pooh. And then there are two more! Our Yuzu.... such a trendsetter! He really has a huge following even among his peers. Everybody in CC seems so inspired by our boy.

Is a little sad to read that half/half. With that answer I think he maybe will drop the competitions but he'll continue to do exhibitions and that is a consolation to me :p
