Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

hello guys. after the 300th time replay Yuzu's LP performance at the Worlds, I spotted two coaches of Maxim Kovtun among audience. They watched him with all attetion but as expected, no clapping or standing at all. I wonder what they think about our boy...[/QU4thOTE]

300th time? :) Not yet there, but I think I'll end up watching it as often as his R & J 1 2012 Worlds LP performance. Both are great in their own way.

Re the Russian scouting of Yuzuru, you must have indeed been watching it that many times to notice ;). As I previously posted, I think among the young guns (those as young or even younger than Yuzuru) I see Maxim Kovtun, Jason Brown, Joshua Farris, Han Yan, and Boyang Jin as his possible rivals in this quad and in the 2018 Olympics.

As GPF, Olympic, and now Worlds champion, Yuzuru is now the benchmark for the up and coming skaters in much as the same way that Patrick Chan was Yuzuru's "sun," which he said he must surpass. So I am not surprised Maxim's coaches were there to take notes. I'm sure they noticed how great a competitor Yuzuru is saving that quad sal and triple sal and what Maxim must do to be competitive with Yuzuru.

yes honestly I can't even remember how many times I've watched his LP skate at World, so the number 300 is just figurative

Previously I posted that I remembered reading that Yuzuru said in an interview that he discussed his move to Canada for training with Nanami sensei and that she understood his reasons and gave her blessing.

After World 2012, Yuzu and Takahashi were on TV show to share their experience of the competition. Surprisingly, Ms. Nanami was invited to recording a message to Yuzu. He was so touched and replied would go back to hometown to thank her personally.

Ms. Nanami said:

Yuzu, congratulation to your bronze medal of World 2012 again.

It changed so much past a year. I knew you were under extreme and various pressures by surroundings that you were never been experienced.

But I always believed you would overcome the pressures with your energy power.

Actually, when I watched your LP (World Competition) finished, I felt such belief in you could last further. I was so happy about it.

From now on, there were still many challenges waiting for you to fight. Go ahead to your goal step by step. Take care yourself.

Nanami's words, like a farewell benediction. By then she must have known Yuzuru was leaving for Canada.

This makes me tear up, same feeling as I had when I first saw Yuzuru fall into Nanami's arms, like a child with his mother, both of them in tears, after his 2012 Worlds free skate with the people standing and cheering Yuzuru's performance. They will always have that moment together.

Thank you Echotype for sharing with us this and other videos on Yuzuru.

 ~Pamina~, yup, you deserve your rest and Sylvia451's Olympic Pooh medal. :) Sweet dreams.

Just noticed that the acronym of "Poohlitically Correct Fan-Auntie-ing Group" is PC *** ;)
ok, so... maybe not that one

Even PChan who is a veteran, [...]
I know this is wayyyyy OT but can I just say what always comes to my mind first whenever I read "PChan"... this

and thanks to everyone for the links. great way to jump-start the day (at almost 3pm... yikes)

I think it's nice that Yuzuru seems to have a really good friend in Javier. I always wonder how much of a social live someone with his work and training schedule can have... so I guess it's even more important that you can bond with the people who are always around you.

I guess it will depend from skater to skater. Orser (or Wilson I don´t remember in this moment) said that Yuzuru is deboted to skating and his family, while describin Javier as someone who lives in his own apartment and is very outgoing.

After Olympics Meryl and Charlie said that this last year they pretty much trained and then go home because they were too tired to do anything else. So I guess it much be hard to have a social life.

Pluss we know Yuzu is still not confortable with english so I don´t see him venturing in Toronto. Also I will like to know if he rest from college during the Olympic year (Meryl and Charlie, Tessa, Mao did). His family seem to be very serious about education.

So maybe he gets alone with Javier, Nan and the other skaters.

Re Javier and Yuzuru, I saw a video where Tracy Wilson (one of their coaches) said their training together despite being rivals works because both of them are such gentlemen and good guys.

David Wilson on Yuzuru and skating: "[Yuzuru] identifies with the Romeo character. He identifies with how Romeo felt desperate and gave his life for his passion. He feels the same way about his skating. He gave his life for skating the same way Romeo gave his life for Juliet."

 So that must be the reason why he chose to be nicknamed PChiddy instead of PChan!

PS No offense meant to Patrick.

Looks like Yuzu is still continuing his college studying as he enrolled in the online teaching courses.

His English... is improving slowly, I guess? This is definitely one of the main reasons to keep him away from fully adapting new life in Toronto. Sometimes I am really curious about his communications with Javier while English is not the mother tongue of both of them. I can't handle the cuteness when they talk or joke with each other.:o:

Hello, littlexflower.
I don't remember who supported Maxim at this WC, but his coaches are Tarasova(the former coach of Mao, Weir, Yagudin..Ten - just in case you didn't know/forgot it) and Buyanova(Vodorezova) - she mentors to Sotnikova as well.
I've never happened to read any comments from Buyanova regarding Yuzuru, as for Tarasova - she commented the Sochi's SP broadcast, I can't recall what exactly she was saying about Yuzu since it was too long ago for my poor memory, but she was very warm towards him and deeply impressed.

After the free skate, though, she said there was no one who deserved to be named an Olympic gold medalist, comparing to Yagudin at Salt Lake '02(honestly, she refers to Alexey almost always when she's interviewed no matter what a context is  ;)) and Denis Ten was the only one worth mentioning("and if he'd been in the last warm-up, he could have won the competition").
That's it.

Well, I think he's OK with private conversations. But in the public, I guess he stuck with the vocabulary, lol. I remember he tried a few times to answer questions in English but failed. That was cute~~~~~

Yeah, he struggled to carry on more than 1.5 sentences! He needs a dictionary and some more bits of confidence. But I love the way he shows the agony of speaking English.

I kinda think the same thing. I don’t believe his English is still so bad that he cannot basically communicate with people (bits and pieces, hands and feet, usually you find a way). But I'd totally understand it if he was just very hesitant to give interviews in English.
As I understand it, the kid is super articulate in Japanese. It's not just what he says (which, as we know, can be ridiculously well thought-out) but it's also very much about how he says it. I just feel like... I dunno, I get why he wouldn’t want to answer questions if he was unsure about how to express himself in a language he has not fully mastered. Especially since he is so used to being able to express himself in words (Am I making any sense?).
It's like people on the internet stating under their posts "sorry for my English, it's not good" or something like that. That's not a bad thing, but I get why it would make you feel insecure. And now imagine that you don't just post something anonymously on the internet but that there's somebody sticking a camera in your face, asking stupid questions and expecting you to give some uber-intelligent answers for who knows how many people to hear... I probably wouldn't even call for an interpreter, I'd just run

ME TOO:laugh: Every time I saw him struggling with English, I just want to laugh at him. Maybe he really doesn't like English. Poor boy.
