Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Personally, I can completely understand where Yuzuru is coming from. Japanese society is so completely alien to most of us, for him other societies are probably just as alien. The month I spent in Japan as a blonde-haired western lady was a complete eye-opener to me in more ways than I can count, and even then I was rather "protected" from most of the normal-day life there, even.
Much as I think Japanese men are incredibly good-looking *swoon*, I sincerely doubt I could ever marry one if it meant having to adjust to the Japanese way of life. I cannot never think any less of Yuzuru Hanyu for thinking the same way, if vice versa, and that has not just to do with being unable to properly communicate, that is probably just one aspect of it. He has always seemed very traditional Japanese to me.
Anyway, I will try and sit down to translate the Dutch FS commentary today. And thanks for all the nice get well wishes for the wisdom tooth. I have to say, so far... *shrug* Either the surgeon was highly exaggerating about the nightmare it was going to be, or else the painkillers are just really Good Stuff. I suspect the latter, lol.

That is from a book written by Yukari Nakano(a former Japanese skater herself). She interviewed several famous skaters in Japan, including Yuzuru. A Chinese forum translated Yuzuru's interview. He talked about lots of things, including the earthquake, his training, and love views. For any of those who can read Chinese, here is the link: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2863661522.
My rough English translation is based on the Chinese translation. The literal translation from Chinese to English is: I don't belong to those who know how to appreciate the looks/appearance of foreign ladies. In Chinese, it is very polite and mild in expressing his views. I guess in Japanese, it is too. But not sure how to translate it into English with the same mildness. :hopelessness:
Considering their conversation:
"- How about Japanese girls?
- Japanese girls, sure!"
"- So, please find a Japanese girl to fall in love with!
- Yes, a Japanese girl!"
I think Yuzu doesn't feel any awkward with the reporter's use of words. At least, he is fine with girls.

Not sure you could say it any nicer without having the complete politeness-vocabulary the Japanese language seems to have. I'll just make my own translation and think that he knows there's beauty in everyone, he's just not attracted to all of it

H: Yuzuru Hanyu will be skating here mainly against himself. He’s skated two bad free programs earlier this season. Cup of China was disastrous([ly bad], 5 falls, though he did skate with a bandage around his head because he’d had a hard collision with Han Yan in the warming up. But also in the NHK Trophy, not even two weeks ago, it was bad, and that was also very painful because it was at home in Japan.
J: He’s going for two, maybe even three quads. Here the salchow. The quad toeloop. Triple axel, triple toeloop in the second half of the program. And another triple axel with a triple salchow in combination. Oooh, the triple lutz goes wrong, but okay. [and here they start talking through another, ugh]. J: [something about that it doesn’t really matter anymore at this point, I think], and H: he’s laughing about it again, just like in the SP. J: -because it’s the last jump in his program, he knows he’s already done everything, already given everything. Gosh, what a difference with NHK, what a difference with the Cup of China.
The resurrection of Yuzuru Hanyu is a fact, the Olympic champion, two weeks after the debacle of Japan, four weeks after the debacle of China, he returns as if reborn and shows that he is the true champion in men’s figure skater. Such a technical score already on the screen, 105 points, and then all the program components will join that and he’ll probably score 9s for that. He is here, ijzersterk (“cast-iron”, literally, as in extremely strong).
H: I really never had expected this. Not only did he make all those mistakes in the two GPs, he skated as if he just had ‘forgotten’ everything [lost his way], I thought he’d need at least a month back in training to be able to find himself again [in a physical and mental sense, Dutch herpakken, literally repacking], as well as that painful, painful defeat in his home country, he had to let two countrymen in front of him, he ended up fourth, didn’t even make the podium, and then, we’re not even two weeks ahead, and he’s back!
J: Yes, here he is! And he’s going to easily win, because he was already ahead after the SP.
H: and until now Fernandez with the best FS, but he’s coming from a fifth place, so [Yuzuru Hanyu] had a big advantage over him already, anyway.
J: Yes, and this was better than Fernandez’s program. Look at that, gorgeous quad salchow. Then he also did the quad toeloop and twice the axel, fell on the second lutz when none of it mattered anymore, by then he’d already jumped all those points together, he’d already performed /showed the whole theme, so it was kind of just a detail.
H: Here, I think. No, this was the first lutz. That was okay. Triple axel was gorgeous, with triple toeloop. And the second axel was also a triple triple combination, we see that here with the salchow, as third jump. Gosh.
J: it’s all jumped so easily. And then yes here it goes wrong, look at Brian Orser, again with the triple lutz, but none of it matters.
H: and then we see here that Hanyu wins the GPF extremely convincingly, who’d have thought that after those two competitions.
So much for Dutch commentary, and now I will go watch it with British commentary, yay. Probably much more exciting. ;-)

Don't worry about it. We tend to get very excited on this thread over small things. All of us do our best with translating even though we are not all professional translators. There are a lot of Japanese terms that are difficult to get the proper nuance of in English...it must be so for all languages.

I think Kovtun suffers in comparison to Yuzu as both are close in age and are talented but they have such a different outlook on life. Kovtun may get much better with age. I hope Vornov can have a good influence on him.

His new boobs are bigger than mine. I have no problem with feminine costumes for him actually, because I think he pulls them off, he already has so many feminine traits that it works for me, it would be very strange to see him in a supposed "masculine" costume, i'm still having a hard time to digest the V-neck at his FS costume
My problem with boobskirt 1.0 was because it was asymmetric with an unflattering design, not that it was too feminine, but the blue one is very pretty for me, I really like it, with or without boobs. And He is slouchy, I don't think it's a matter of the costume.
