Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Though I think I understand what some people are saying I think people should be careful cause I don't think that the Federation policy was some how something bad or wrong. They might have just had a different thinking of not exposing too much of Yuzu's current condition with quads and stuff just in case it raises too many expectations again. I'm not saying at all that Orser was doing something wrong at all in fact I'm glad I got this update, but he just has a different view of how to approach this situation in comparison to the federation. But I don't think we should make it seem that the federation is some evil force that is doing some injustice. Also, communication between the two parties is probably not easy as people try to make it out to be.

Amen.

BOrser is just saying that Yuzuru didn't just sit around doing nothing so he probably won't crash and burn and JFS is being cautious and keeping the expectations in check. Good approach on both sides.

Agree with all of this. BOrser is an employee of Yuzuru, and is under no obligation to JSF. BOrser is known for being candid and open. (I'd be willing to wager a lot of money that the request for "no information" came from Yuzu's mama to Kobayashi. Just sayin AS A MOTHER. Yumi talked directly to Kobayashi when Yuzu was discharged from hospital)

Have you got any evidence? JSF officially stated they employed Orser in 2012 via JOC money. Yuzu didn’t employed Orser in 2012.

That is interesting if true, and I have to wonder how coaches feel about it from an ethics stand point. I wonder if some would view it as a conflict of interest.

I also wonder if it is something in between. I.e. JSF/JOC gives funding, skater picks coach with approval and pays with funding. To me that would still be Yuzu hiring Borser, but it would be with JSF/JOC money.

My understanding is the same as yours. JSF pays the money, but maybe Yuzu has the ultimate say in terms of which coach to hire.

Yuzuru Hanyu

Hello everyone. I have followed Yuzuru since the Olympics almost daily but have not posted until now. I enjoy your conversations very much.

My understanding is that once ANA started sponsoring him, they are paying all expenses-coach, travel, use of ice rink in Japan and also choice of CMs' and use of his picture. Of course, JSF is still involved. I just don't know the logistics of their cooperation.

I believe that the JSF received so much criticism after COC that they want Yuzu to be very close to his Japanese physicians and healthcare team to save face. I understand they are being very cautious about revealing any information. That has been their policy in the past although Yuzu is an international star and draws more attention.

I also understand BOrser's position. He is culturally different than the JSF being very open and honest, willing to share with the media when asked. I saw a short video, sorry I can't remember where with Brian and the JSF woman in an intense conversation post Japanese Finals. It may have just been a struggle with language communication.

This is just my opinion. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Why/How would ANA be responsible for his choice of CMs or even own his image? I guess this doesn't fall under the spectrum of a sponsorship deal from an airline company. From my understanding ANA is responsible for covering just travelling and hotel expenses.

Welcome to the forum/thread! :)

Hi Nemorml,

I understand that ANA does pay all of his Coaching expenses. About the commercials I am not sure. I appreciate any additions or corrections. ;)

Yuzuru is a player of ANA (so that means he's a employee of ANA). He get payed about US$300,000/per year plus all the expenses he needs for skating.
This contract was made in 2013 so maybe he got more supports this year:)

It looks like the $300k was a signing bonus (meaning one time only)? ANA covering expenses is consistent with what I've heard before.

For anyone not familiar with signing bonuses, an employer may offer a signing bonus as incentive in addition to regular salary. It's one time though. Sometimes a bonus includes stock, stock options, retirement contributions all of which are included in the total. The actual cash amount received may be much lower than the bonus value.

... let us remember as Worlds approach that even with the body not necessarily being well, it is the spirit that carries Yuzuru and that his spirit never waivers. If his skating is off, it will be his body not his spirit, and, regardless, he will give all he has in body and spirit. If he is to experience defeat, it will not be the first time that he has had to look at it in the face, but he defies it by staring at it straight and doing his best (like at NHK and CoC). He draws on everything within him. Every competitive skate. I wish him well, to be his best, and I know he will be his best as best he can be. We never have to ask for that. He just gives it. He gets my applause, on or off the podium. "Mosquitoe-waisted" as the Sendai Samurai may be, he is truly one of the great ones and he makes the sport richer through his presence.

Well-said. You capture his essence so well.

No, my statement is not sensational, sir.

I asked if your statement is "sensationalizing," not "sensational." I hope you realize by posting in this thread, you also include yourself in your statement, which I think does an injustice to this thread including your previous posts.

And oh if you have to, please call me madam as I'm no sir. :)

If it's anything, I agree with what you said Maria Victoria  I too sometimes think that us fans in this thread are prone to freaking out a bit and need to chill out at various times, but the response to this latest article in particular was largely positive and not over-sensationalized. Plus, there's nicer ways to make this point than making sweeping generalizations, I think it's worth the effort to try and keep this Fan Fest as polite, chill  and bickering-free as possible.
