Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I think it depends on whether or not you see them skate live. As I've stated, I'd take the words from people who have seen them live several times.
Sometimes we can't tell by video. Mrs. P, Lake (or Lakeside I don't remember her/his nick) YesWay, Doris, Asthetics, Buttercup...have seen them live.

Level and the flow of footwork don't always go together, though. You know level is just checking points most of the time. And both Yuzuru and Hanyan messed up their SP worse than Kovtun, even though I'd rather watch both of them over Kovtun's SP (that program ).

I will say I haven't seen Han Yan live, however, so I can't speak to whether Yuzuru is superior to him (or vice versa) as far as SS and edges. I will say that out of Hanyu and Kozuka (who I've seen live in the same competition), I think Kozuka has better skating skills (nice edges and soft knees), but Hanyu has more speed, for sure.

This was in 2012 Skate America right Mrs. P? I think there has been a marked improvement in Yuzuru's skating skills (and also stamina) since then based on what I have seen from video at least. ;)

I thought the posture issue was because of asthma, because when I get asthma attack my (uppertomid) back hurts. no excuse for the sometimes noodle arms though.

Compared to Han Yan right now, Yuzuru is faster, sharper, and has more control (and flow), when he's on. Yuzuru's edges are a little bit inconsistent I think, there are times I've seen him very deep, and definitely better than Han Yan, and others, such as parts of the CoC SP, where it's less than seen in the show performance and practices (the other parts and rest os SS was great, but even there less than he's capable of). Actually if he's injured or something his SS goes out the window a bit, like in 2013 worlds SP he seemed to lack balance even (compare to 2014W sp, where he was great even though he fell also). What Yuzuru needs is more consistency. Han Yan has more talent for SS for sure, he'll be amazing when he's older, he can be the new PChiddy with a great 3A(here's to hoping it gets more consistent).

Though I do think Yuzurus great SS was on display last season in the PW SP, deep edges, complicated sharp footwork, speed speed speed, but the choreo was all about making it look easy. This season's choreo highlights the SS and (sharp so sharp )TR beautifully, like putting them under display lights (though he's definitely improved for sure). basically I can't wait to see what it looks like by the end of this season, or as a future EX:love:

Imagine how motivated he'll be at next year's Worlds in Shanghai; he's all about revenge, right? But I just want to ask how the entries for Worlds are determined; is it top 2 or top 3 from the Nationals?

Another question I have: say he miss this GP; what are the chances that he brings the SP or the LP back for next season? I know he did PW or two seasons, but is it common for skaters in the past to do same programs due to injury the following year?

Basically...
1. Winner of Nationals gets to go
2. 2nd in nationals / or highest placed in the GP series
3. Highest world ranking.

Actually I think that was just the deciding order for the olympics and they just used the same members for the worlds that year. Usually for the worlds i think its usually the top 3 guys at nationals.

Finding random things to talk about until his next appearance... I know people were saying that there's no way that Yuzu can be 171cm any more, well if Nam is 172, then Yuzu definitely must be around 175cm

You're probably right. Evgeni Plyushchenko is listed as 178 cm (5'10"). Yuzuru doesn't look that much shorter than him in pictures from Together on Ice.

I can see that there's a Japanese sports magazine called "NUMBER" that came out yesterday, supposedly with an interview (or just quotes?) from Hanyu-san after CoC. I am terrible at looking for information online so I couldn't find what was said in the magazine. Anyone came across anything? I tried twitter too but have no idea what I am doing...

Are you referring to this or not? Maybe not because there is no interview in this article.

The report describe what went go that night with very emotional words.
There are 2 things I want o share..

1. After FS, Orser would like to take Yuzuru back to the backstage for immediate medical treatment and skipped K&C parts. However, Yuzuru insisted on staying in K&C because he didn't want his fans to worry about him. Orser said Yuzuru is a stupid kid at that time.

2.After receiving the medical treatment, Yuzuru apologized to all JSF staffs and said " there are 3 weeks before NHK trophy..."

I feel like Yuzu is unnecessarily pressuring himself because thinking about all of this, he has already obtained all those titles and we know that he's a great skater. What's most important now is to rest well and heal properly.

I wish the weight on his shoulders can lighten a bit if he takes on another perspective to his situation: he's already a respected OGM-list, adored by fans, loved by his idol Plushenko, met the emperor, had a giant parade held for him, held an amazing ice show in his hometown Sendai, has a solo photo exhibition and published an exclusive photobook (and the list can go on and on ... )

Orser is on camera ASKING Yuzuru if he wants to go backstage or to K&C. He did not call Yuzuru "a stupid kid". What an outrageous lie!

This sounds like another gossip article fabricated to sensationalize an already terrible situation.

Perhaps some "helpful" person translated Orser's English words into another language then another "helpful" person translated them to Japanese which you are then "translating" from Japanese back to us?
:bang:

OK, maybe my bad English didn't translate it properly...
Orser didn't say, he thought (maybe he told the reporter after the competition or sometime, i don't know...)

Here is the completely description:

Orser thought "Yuzuru is such a silly boy.Why does he always take all his fans' feeling so seriously even in such hard time? I know it might be dangerous to decide to skate this time but I am proud of him with all my heart"

I apologized for any misunderstanding due to my bad translation. maybe next time i will let some "helpful" people do the job.

Thank you for the clarification...don't feel bad about getting stuff wrong. We all share information and correct errors when we see it.
You did a good job.

Thanks bibi1899 for sharing. I wonder whether Brian told Yuzuru he is a stupid kid to his face. Some plain speaking may help bridge the language divide judging from the Facebook post of Tadashi Aoshima, Yuzuru's massage therapist in Toronto, where he said, "I know it is difficult to stop him because I have an experience to make him withdraw from Finlandia Trophy. It was necessary to tell him what Oser really means in Japanese."

In retrospect, I find it ironic that Yuzuru was worrying how his SP skate in COC might ruin his coach's reputation. Turns out it was Yuzuru's FP skate that might do that as there are those who think Brian Orser should not have "allowed" Yuzuru to go out there and skate. How much of Brian's cautionary words I wonder was Yuzuru able to absorb as at that time Yuzuru must still be reeling from the collision as well as high on the adrenaline of competition. I think it may be wise for coach and pupil to have their own postmortem of what transpired at COC.

As for skating in the NHK, let's see first how Yuzuru's healing goes.

I feel like Yuzu is unnecessarily pressuring himself because thinking about all of this, he has already obtained all those titles and we know that he's a great skater. What's most important now is to rest well and heal properly.

I wish the weight on his shoulders can lighten a bit if he takes on another perspective to his situation: he's already a respected OGM-list, adored by fans, loved by his idol Plushenko, met the emperor, had a giant parade held for him, held an amazing ice show in his hometown Sendai, has a solo photo exhibition and published an exclusive photobook (and the list can go on and on ... )

Like you, I also hope Yuzuru during this period of enforced rest will take time to reflect on how much he has been blessed and how he should not take unnecessary risks. So long as he is healthy, there is no saying what he can achieve. In the words of his coach Tracy Wilson, he can become "a skater that seems to be out of this world."

Speaking of his being the reigning OGM, his FS moved the Chinese female commentator to say that this is the first time in her 12 years of reportage to see an athlete skate wearing bandages and that there is no doubt that he's the Olympic gold medalist (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2x4Hi5jbLI; 5:07), while B Esp's Mark Hannretty who felt that Yuzuru should skate :disapp: (Nicky Slater said his call is that Yuzuru doesn't skate), said that Yuzuru is a worthy Olympic champion
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFwEHecrC60; 5:48). I hope next time though Yuzuru will make his case as a worthy OGM in a way that's less harmful to his health and less heartbreaking for his family and those who care for him.

i dont know if these videos posted before but i just saw them last night and we all need change of mood so here it is
baby yuzu and kana
according to the tumblr user " When they first met at the age of 9, Kanako was so impressed by Yuzu’s mushroom haircut that she bounced several times and asked her friend to see Yuzu. Yuzu, was so embarrassed that he burried his face in his hands. But Kana just wouldn’t let go. She kept teasing this shy little boy"

and next video is many years later :D
" Many years later, Kana still remembered how impressed she was by Yuzu’s haircut, and, Yuzu was still incredibly shy when she talked about that."

so cutee

Oh I just saw bibi1899's clarification after I posted, but my point about the need at times for plain speaking in English between the two remains. Brian apparently was giving Yuzuru a choice whether to go to the K & C or go straight backstage for medical treatment when actually Brian wanted him to do the latter.

Thanks bibi1899.

Thanks matmuh! I share your feelings, although I think Kanako was more "amused" rather than "impressed" by Yuzuru's haircut. :) I could be wrong but I think the "friend" beside her is actually her older sister Yukiko who also took up figure skating.

I don't know, but I don't think that is her sister. They look so different...but anyway, it isn't important.

Is kana calling Yuzu "kinoko" in the gif?
